Untold!

Shouting from within the house was disturbing

terrified screams permeated

the neighbours had been use to frequent rows

but even they were shaken

the police were called but never came for hours

the next day people laid flowers!

When the house was entered there were bodies

a massacre the description

yet though eight were found spread in rooms

certain the killer was not there

known for their family feud it seemed overkill

a dread in the community did instill!

The house lay empty nobody wanted to go near

there was a dark  atmosphere

from a fun street it became somber and quiet

nobody had been caught

who could do such a thing to in this household

it seemed a mystery untold!

During the next year several bodies were found

in random spots in the same area

as those in the house mutilated the same way

all related to the house owners

yet no clues to give any identity to the culprit

no scenarios would fit!

Theories abounded gang related or a grudge

passing down the many years

they were from a country vampires lived

cursed for long gone wrongs

had caused some ancient beings to hate

so the generations had to eliminate!

Wild stories circulated some were simply fantasy

then as the shocking case

had started one night it all came to a chilling end

a body in a ritual type pose

found near to the street in bushes on wasteland

with a bloody axe in its hand!

For some reason not explained by the authorities

declared it was the wanted assassin

so there was nothing to fear anymore now safe

file closed no evidence disclosed

that cloud of suspicion would never go away

something nasty was at play!

That house where it all began stayed empty

many thought it haunted

slowly decaying over time others reported

shadowy beings following

wandering around the area few dared go

for animals was a no-show!

There is a house in a street it could be near you!

Faith!

That single moment changed his life forever

there on his second tour of duty

thought he was hardened to atrocities of war

even when facing his own death

another demolished village came up ahead

more wounded and many dead!

On the road came upon a woman crouching

holding a man’s lifeless body

two small children wandering dazed and  lost

each cried with endless tears

looking down in body armour and loaded gun

under the searing heat of the sun!

Feeling himself overwhelmed with the scene

had not been to church for years

his faith was now being tested himself a father

a beautiful wife waiting at home

safe away from such brutality of this warfare

their torment for a time did share!

Made him confront his own vulnerability and belief

feeling that overwhelming grief!

Then became a soldier once more and moved on!

Empty Eyes!

It was looking into those empty eyes

without any emotion

the chills it gave me I remember now

in a bar with my friend

for a quiet pleasant evening after work

interrupted by this berk!

Who was persistent just would not go

threatened if left alone

but with my friend did not feel so bad

eventually took the hint

wandering off where I could not care

no longer at me to stare!

Soon forgot that unsettling encounter

just the two of us drinking

until the last orders call I then recalled

look to see if he was about

thought how silly must be long gone

there was nothing wrong!

Once in the air realised I was very tipsy

need to get a taxi home

my friend was going on to a night club

as I tried to phone a cab

slowly walking down the poorly lit path

no idea of the closing wrath!

Halted by a crossing finally got through

needing the post for balance

heard movement from close behind me

and suddenly an arm gripped

tightly around my neck now panic set in

finding strength from within!

Struggling I still had my high heels on

stamped as hard as I could

hoping to catch his foot a loud yell

violently let me go falling

down on my knees quickly spinning

hoping I was winning!

Realising looking up it was him glaring

the man with empty eyes

trying to stand he lunged  at my dress

pulling back he missed

scrabbled to my feet I ran in the road

with menace he strode!

Kicking the shoes off shouting for help

from a couple passing by

they just seemed to ignore my plight

as the man caught up

lights dazzled coming directly ahead

diving it missed by a thread!

As I fell on the pavement there was a thud

tyres were screeching

shaken wondering what had happened

the perpetrator was hit

by a taxi staring at him in utter disbelief

but filled with such relief!

It was the taxi that had come to pick me up

the man with the empty eyes

never regained consciousness I heard later

justice you could say was done

luck maybe a guardian angels intervention

are possibilities in contention!

His Secret!

He had been thrown out at fifteen his secret

by parents who were always high

never knew love of a family always a loner

had a sister he tried to protect

his haunted vision of her always crying

yet like him always defying!

Within knew she would survive their cruelty

what else could she now do

nobody ever came to help them get free

his will to live was ebbing

worrying about his sister afraid to go back

the education he did lack!

Ended up begging on the street humiliated

on a day when he felt like dying

a dog wandered aimlessly lost passed him

turned and came slowly back

laying whimpering with sad eyes at his side

for the first time in years cried!

This scruffy bag of bones and fur needed help

neglected and desperate

identifying his situation with this new friend

now with a purpose in life

that emptiness was not so intense anymore

had to pick himself off the floor!

Giving him courage and confidence to mature

named the dog Thor

because he had given him strength and courage

to become a man from the boy

proud to have a loyal companion as he paced

knowing the parents had to be faced!”

Settled in a flat of his own and now employed

the inevitable had to be done

ringing the bell still scared him wanting to run

a young woman opened the door

his sister recognised him hugging so tight

filled with such delight!

This was when he learned the parents had died

she had tried to find her brother

knew they would meet again and be together

welcoming him and Thor

into a now happy home the passed left behind

their future clearly defined!
