Taylor!

She walked down the quiet lane

witnesses told the police

smiling and singing as always

everybody knew Taylor

a local lass well-known there

always a word to share!

 

A regular journey to see gran

who lived on a farm

at the end of old tinkers lane

gran waited as usual

never reached her destination

causing fear and frustration!

 

As afternoon became evening

the family gathered

police called a search began

by her many friends

neighbours joined in as well

but soon darkness fell!

 

The days became many weeks

no explanation found

mentioned she was eighteen

an adult not a child

to her parents their baby still

a void nothing could fill!

 

Hope faded worst synopsis feared

no suspects or motive

within this tight nit community

rumours then emerged

that strange clouds were seen

and a friend saw the teen!

 

Only for seconds then vanished

put it down to a mistake

caught in the emotional wave

forgot to mention it

but news outlets had moved on

the interest value gone!

 

Two months later she returned

Taylor came home

as her brother and sister strolled

into their kitchen

one Friday after being at school

quietly sitting on a stool!

 

Mum was crying emotionally to

she looked over smiling

that unique reassuring glance

as if nothing was wrong

ending up hugging each other

mum sisters and brother!

 

Eagerly asking the one question

where had she been

yet Taylor could not answer this

thought it the same day

of missing time no recollection

of anything wrong rejection!

Attention!

The police cruiser slowly went passed

something had caught his eye

in the murky light saw a movement

now had drawn his attention

to a large abandoned furniture store

something was amiss for sure!

 

Had he seen it not rational to him

it came through a wall

the figure vanished from his sight

had to check the scene

at first there was just his reflection

nobody needed protection!

 

Decided to head back to the patrol car

then in the window noticed

another image was close by his side

yet upon glancing around

beside himself the area was totally clear

what was going on unclear!

 

He was a logical man but this rattled him

decided to patrol on foot

though had to be careful being on his own

turning into an alley

lead to the rear of the derelict premises

could this be his nemeses!

 

It was creepy though a sceptic had to admit

every noise made him jump

in the narrow alleyway there was no escape

suddenly confronted by a this shape

that  seemed to come through the brick wall

drawing his gun as he began to fall!

 

Hitting the ground hard he fired at the object

the bullet ricocheted off a metal sign

just missing his head then he met the ground

stunned called for back up

certain he had hit the intruder in the chest

for the first time was distressed!

 

In the dark now feeling vulnerable and alone

dizzy his face really in pain

sure somebody was close by staggered forward

as a colleague came to his aid

said he had pursued an intruder but got away

what else could he say?

 

A search was made but nothing was ever found

he learnt that others had reported

ghostly shadows had appeared from nowhere

but knew the policy of the force

dealing with facts certainly not the unknown

on this knew he was alone!

 

While on sick leave delved into the paranormal

his attitude changed to the possibility

of monsters and spirits they could really exist

he had to find out what he had seen

that night his being was filled with foreboding

that him something was goading!

 

This decision he would soon regret forever!

Glinted!

In the distance something suddenly glinted

even though in a thick forest

the friends wandered amongst dense trees

with a touch of curiosity

their attention was now drawn to that spot

a choice to investigate or not!

 

Interest overwhelmed any thought of danger

as the light became more intense

darting at high-speed low but rising into the sky

changing colours then halting

not far ahead they ran eagerly to find the cause

without even a moment to pause!

 

Then abruptly it hovered and glowed  multicolored

small like a probe they had to feel it

strange writing around the centre warm to touch

no sound emanated from it

at first there was no panic but it became so bright

lit the area like a floodlight!

 

Shooting high above the trees as if tracking them

thinking it was going to strike

tried to find some safe cover but there was none

as they quickly backtracked

from nowhere soldiers were rapidly approaching

on their freedom encroaching!

 

The group was roughly escorted from the area

as helicopters overhead hovered

leaving them baffled at what they had witnessed

at gun point forced into their car

ordered to leave the forest without explanation

happy to leave avoiding confrontation!

 

Eventually from a safe distance could monitor

curiosity overcame apprehension

felt the air around them quiver all eyes raised

saw a huge unidentified craft

over the forest cast a dark portentous obscurity

exposing mans real unsurety!

 

 

Explosions and shells intermingled with beams

similar to lasers as helicopters fell

a small round shape flew up entered the huge ship

then it just vanished from sight

now devastation in the once peaceful woodland

as a strange wind the flames fanned!

 

While they could the friends raced from this place

ominous of what mankind would face!
