On The Edge!

The pressure became too much for her that night

just wanted to take off in flight

jump off a bridge or run in front of a fast train

thoughts screaming in her brain

voices would not go away impossible to pray

could not take it another day!

Unable get any sleep her relationship ended

something she had not intended

he just said the wrong words that really hurt

with her hand ripped his shirt

hit him in a fit of anger then just had to leave

that tension had to relieve!

Why she was angry one minute so manic the next

made her feel even more vexed

everything magnified to the extent of compulsion

within she now felt repulsion

increasingly becoming distant from normal reality

she became ever nearer to insanity!

Her friends had tried to help but it was rejected

it was though with evil infected

she now found herself on the car park top floor

how she got there unsure

as the noise in her mind became so unbearable

confused life was unrepairable!

Seconds later jumped in her mind flying like a bird

a faint thud witnesses heard.

bunches of flowers and tribute laid at the very spot

to her family never to be forgot

the man from whom she had the disturbing split

the shock could never get over it!

Remorse!

It was dark she told herself over and over

along that country lane.

And late for a meeting with a new client

poor light was a factor.

Didn’t see the walker on the road side

surely they hadn’t died!

Thought it was an animal had felt the thud

her mind was on her work.

Only just got there in time but it went well

new business for the company.

Her morning journey seemed so long ago

for the day had a lot to show.

Pleased at her success went out to celebrate

with members from her firm.

In a wine bar a television showed the news

a reporter standing in a lane.

Policemen visibly stood behind his position

said a man was in critical condition!

Sitting staring at the screen knew it was her

said a driver was being sought.

Racked with guilt made her excuses and left

and then contacted the police.

In the interview room she sat waiting alone

had she killed him still unknown!

The minutes dragged by until the officers entered

and informed her he was alive.

Explaining what had happened so emotional

not leaving the scene on purpose.

Genuine tears of remorse filled her green eyes

they knew she told no lies!

No charges were brought but was given a caution

and later went to see the victim.

From the moment they made the first contact

a bond was formed between them.

And a relationship started the anguish was gone

now their love has become strong.

Now she must stop reflecting on that date

life has strange ways of twisting our fate!
