Shivering!

They sat shivering in the basement flat

damp and mould covered the walls

mum held her two children very tightly

trying to keep them warm and dry

no comforts her benefits had been cut

any family to her the door was shut!

Left home at fifteen fell for an older man

who showed kindness in the beginning

gave her a child then became ill and died

was just sixteen and for her he cared

his family rejected them to just as her own

on the streets with a baby all alone!

Found herself now poorly treated abused

soon realised she was pregnant again

roamed the streets until she found help

a charity cared for them until the baby

was a few months old but funds were short

the council’s assistance urgently sought!

Desperate feeling suicidal told had to wait

funding taken away for now try a friend

ended up here in the wretched filthy squat

cowering going rapidly out of her mind

drug users satisfied their addiction close by

drunks used it as a toilet so wanted to cry!

Within her had a tough will could not give up

had two babies to think about now

only had each other determined from then on

to make a better life for the three

came up from the depths of despair with hope

knew from then on could cope!

In the bright lights of London a family observed

a young woman frail yet was still smiling

never giving up there must be kindness around

they came over offering them support

in a culture of destitution and the welfare system

decimated had lost its humanity rhythm!

Months really seemed like years she wondered

in her own warm clean room

children safe both serene unaware of the plight

a short time ago found themselves in

how many there were not so fortunate still living

amongst those who were unforgiving!

On Edge!

Strange atmosphere as society on itself encloses

everybody is on edge in society

trust between people is lacking aggression grows

so many acts of terrorism

only days between incidents has got them scared

for this onslaught not prepared!

What has changed so dramatically this last year

the poor left reeling perplexed

who is the real enemy hiding within the shadows

ready to harm the innocent bystander

without mercy or conscience

every media outlets twenty four seven repeating

information our sanity beating!

What is real anymore as people turn against friends

family suspicious of each other

violence on the streets is growing society unsettled

basic rights are failing for many

what will happen next nobody seems to understand

is  the third world war at hand?

Divided!

A sound from behind made her turn around

not a soul was in view I found.

making  them feel very afraid terror grew

gripping the fear of being attacked but who

nobody is safe walking out and about

to risk being hurt by some uncouth lout

at anytime of the day or night is safe

there are different opinions and little faith

in our polices ability to protect or control

as their positions hard in this important role

so much pleasure was gained from a stroll

today mugger’s and vandals have taken their toll

unemployment has changed attitudes of mind

the once happy workers are not always kind

or understanding of the plight they are now in

there are those who would steal from their kin

teenagers are confused not knowing what’s ahead

others who lap up the situation are easily led

hookers  stand or roam certain areas or streets

so are a lot of unearthly fiends who could complete

the array of nasty people to meet when your out

young mothers and babies who’d hear them shout.

most are afraid to get involved in giving a hand

to save those caught up in the world of the damned.

are  the times when it was  really safe to walk

with no fear of abuse you felt happy to talk

gone forever like the freedom of movement.

friendliness and cooperation was heaven-sent

our lives are like the flicker of an eyelid

communities today live in fear often divided!
