Friends Had Said!

Friends had said leave him don’t take the pain

he’ll really hurt you one day!

The young mum knew in her heart it was true

but she loved this man.

His abuse she took thinking it was not meant

both at the age of consent!

Would not admit that she feared her partner

the blows just pressure release.

She also worked the bruises were well hidden

harder now with the kids.

Somehow couldn’t break away from his power

each was a dangerous hour!

One day the tension was impossible to contain

and the violence excelled.

Terrified she left taking the two crying babes

leaving them with relatives.

Her husband had followed the row continued

his anger had truly stewed!

In the street and back in their miserable home

all control was now lost!

Each blow hurt more cries for mercy ignored

this time it never stopped

Then there was no more motion only silence

losing the strength for defence!

He stood without any emotion just indifference

leaving his wife and a mother.

Dead on the carpet at the age of twenty-five

should have had many years.

Laying alone as this man-made his futile retreat

her children never again to meet!

We can only hope justice will be done!

So Close!

In my mind its wonderful when we meet

so close to you I deeply feel

our flirtatious banter is always a treat

secretly having that tender appeal!

But know it is only within my lonely mind

an imaginary female friend that’s all

so perfect thoughtful gentle and very kind

there when others ignore my call!

In the silence you comfort me from fear

raise my spirits halting even one tear

giving me the will to live yet another day

keeping that dark depression at bay!

Extras!

Are we noticed as we stand or linger

maybe sit or walk about

a flash a blur or going on a specific line

quiet not allowed to shout

unless it is a crowd or part of a scene

extras not meant to be seen

from mighty block busters that thrill

or unknown shows hardly viewed

often forgotten but wait with goodwill

eager and ready to go on cue

spending their days waiting around

for assistant directors command

not always being treated very well

classed as the lowest of the low

under a tyrants rule being given hell

occasionally a walk on part to glow

the silent minority there to support

but too often were sold short!

Had been an extra for more than ten years

sometimes felt part of the production

too often made to feel inferior no respect

one rule not to outshine the stars

fill the background and do as you are told

your presence must not be bold!
