Out Of Nowhere!

Out of nowhere there comes that point

you feel physically blown

health issues arise and you are shaken

it becomes hard to take in

these feelings are very hard to express

when trying to explain a strain

after years of coping your will is very low

your vulnerability is on show!

Understand that your certainly not alone

though it does not help you

feeling scared at your physical demise

each day becomes hard to face

as the ability to override fear diminishes

panic wells in every thought

accepting others have far more to bare

for your own sanity must share!

Motionless!

Intrigued could not help but notice her

sitting on the metal bench

just motionless as he waited for a bus

was she real he surmised

fixated on a  smartly dressed woman

whose face began to change

into the form of a reptilian beast

his focus on reality ceased!

Knocking into a passerby with force

they retaliated hitting out

in frustration he made a quick exit

perplexed at what he saw

managed to get his bus was relieved

to be leaving the area

then noticed the woman on the bus

under his breath did cuss!

Tried to ignore her but glanced around

certain others faces blurred

now paranoid thinking this was absurd

why was he seeing these images

thinking what could have caused this

the only difference on this day

had bought drops for his tired dry eyes

had they exposed a hidden disguise!

He sat uncertain what to do anymore

these were regular passengers

who he had traveled with every day

many were not human beings

that thought made his skin clammy

for the first time was tense

as they all acted perfectly ordinary

this situation was so scary!

Approaching his stop his eyes felt dry

dared not put in more drops

so he clumsily and cautiously got off

and watched the bus drive away

confused at what he had just witnessed

every shadow was a challenge

so glad his house was coming into sight

certain everything would be alright!

His wife had the dinner ready on the table

her husband was punctual

yet by morning light had not come home

sat in front of congealed food

she never heard her husband’s voice again

not aware of his discovery

left to an empty future to face the nightmare

oblivious with aliens the air did share!

You never know who you are sitting next to!

Resigned!

Admitting that life can be lonely living alone

after it must be over thirty years

on reflection maybe it was always my destiny

one regret never found a soul mate

to share thoughts interests and have a laugh

independent is fine but would be nice

to find somebody to ring visit or have some fun

now feel my timeline has overrun!

How the years have flown by and the body ages

for some the dawn of a new beginning

being so busy never have a moment to be alone

yes have children this is certainly true

but they do not need old dad hanging around

having their own lives to see through

nice to have a special friend honest and true!

In a society that has lost that closeness and unity

many dread their forced isolation

with social health no longer an affordable priority

the elderly feel they are a burden

admit this has started to be a concern in my mind

eventually to the inevitable resigned!

Soldier!

He sat alone in the train compartment

it was during war-time

the soldier was on leave from the army

had witnessed the abhorrence

of warfare and his friends lives ended

their funerals attended!

As he sat deep in thought became aware

in the seat opposite

by the window a frail looking woman sat

weeping very quietly

gasped certain nobody else was in there

this compartment to share!

The light was poor as it was the black out

how cold he now felt

sound of bombs dropping in the distance

already very stressed

could only stare at his unexpected visitor

that he could not ignore!

There was nowhere for him to run away

a no corridor train

on this old trundling commuter train

he was stuck here

did not fancy jumping onto the line

this decided to decline!

But suddenly the shape distorted

the face became clear

now saw the black eyes glaring

the once human features

changed into a grotesque outline

his sanity unable to define!

A loud scream like a banshee wail

made him reel away

running to the left locked door

pounding the glass

as it smashed his flesh was torn

shouting as if others to warn!

The train slowly screeched to a halt

station staff ran to his aid

upper body lay over the broken door

they helped him out

in the carriage nobody else was there

to them an odd affair!

Later in hospital his wounds tended

he was unconscious

eventually when he was able to speak

nothing could he recall

but in his mind the image did remain

thought was he going insane?

From then on felt a vile presence near!

Faith!

That single moment changed his life forever

there on his second tour of duty

thought he was hardened to atrocities of war

even when facing his own death

another demolished village came up ahead

more wounded and many dead!

On the road came upon a woman crouching

holding a man’s lifeless body

two small children wandering dazed and  lost

each cried with endless tears

looking down in body armour and loaded gun

under the searing heat of the sun!

Feeling himself overwhelmed with the scene

had not been to church for years

his faith was now being tested himself a father

a beautiful wife waiting at home

safe away from such brutality of this warfare

their torment for a time did share!

Made him confront his own vulnerability and belief

feeling that overwhelming grief!

Then became a soldier once more and moved on!

Reminisce!

Often I reminisce at that decision when young

but it was you who left.

Even to this day remember that kiss goodbye

that ruled our progress.

Realising from then it had always been  you

the one I loved true.

Then nothing was taken seriously life was fun

searching our destinies.

Loving someone to us stories and weepy films

and the freedom to roam.

But when maturity sets in you see what’s lost

regretting the personal cost.

Years I searched for the girl I simply let go

that took losing to know.

By chance on a social sight I saw your face

could our past be fulfilled?

Enjoying those years that should have been

if only we had foreseen.

Here now with a bouquet of flowers to give

standing by your grave.

The reunion had come for us just too late

by you I kneel and remember.

That gentle person warm bubbly and sweet

your kiss and smile until we meet.

The sun was shinning and you were there

my precious lady my tears I share!

The Football

It was just a grubby yellow plastic football

the youngsters found.

Left unwanted in a dried up river bed

near burnt out cars.

In the once thriving peaceful desert town

the war had brought down!

A group of six friends with a lot in common

each orphaned by the fighting.

Known nothing but war since their birth

had found away to be friends.

Needing an outlet they all could share

learning how to care.

When one boy spotted the yellow football

a new hope emerged!

Their chance to have fun and be focused

to give them a purpose.

An incredible joy as they started to play

none could take it away.

Missing from amongst them that tribal mistrust

teenagers had found a spark.

From different backgrounds wanting to mix

defying the old traditions!

Not to fear without hate to kill or mutilate

but make earth a joined state!

Watching them play with that football

should be man’s wake up call!

United we stand alone we fall!
