Home!

Weary and disillusioned they came home

left as boys returned old men

within their minds and damaged bodies

too many lost in the trenches

sinking and dying in deep stinking mud

for country spilling their blood!

Longing to be back with family at home

conditions not for any creatures

that deafening noise of exploding shells

crouching in those hell pits

like burrowing moles never dry or warm

trying to survive the brutal storm!

Chocking those without protective masks

mustard gas like a yellow fog

seeped in without  mercy a silent killer

nor raising heads as snipers aimed

across no mans land the soldiers waited

far away the officers debated!

In safety top brass making the decisions

of when they had to attack the foe

like moving chess pieces on the board

lives were put in jeopardy

for the gain of just a few feet of territory

whose was this savage glory?

Millions have perished so it will continue

the never ending cycle of war

peace it is said no profit can ever be made

the majority are but pawns

from the 1914 to 1918 quoted Great War

nothings changed what else is in store?

Surely most want peace and unity for all

or will it go on until mankind does fall?

The soldiers just want to go home!

The Calling!

Knew it was A risk in the wilderness

but had the calling to come

since he was a child this was his aim

at first the weather was fine

he had brought minimum provisions

seen this place in his visions!

This was his predestined lifes mission

had prayed for guidance

had worried parents from a young age

dedicated and well-studied

at twenty knew told them he must go

his family’s misgivings did show!

That morning he set off on his mission

rode his rebuilt motorbike

an emotional parting then he was gone

happy that day had come

parked then carried a large backpack

heading up the twisty track!

Now absorbed by natural surroundings

within his own thoughts

seemed oblivious to the many creatures

was contented raising his arms

praying loudly and walked as if guided

all needs would be provided!

Had no doubt waited his whole life for this

by the fast pure waterfall

drank the pure nectar and settled down

nightfall rapidly approached

under the stars at last he was satisfied

his future would not be denied!

He had no fear knew god protected him

this was a hallowed ground

here was untainted by mans savage hand

within was purified of his sins

now with the power and love in his soul

was ready to accept his role!

Headed home ready to become the good priest!

Crashed!

His senses and vision were even better

even though he had aged

estimated three hundred earth years

since his craft had crashed

on this planet had to blend in or die

with a savage culture comply!

Near a mountain top in undergrowth

overtime had hidden his craft

such a long lonely existence he found

females but they withered

as he waited to contact his own race

from a distant planet in space!

Few visitors came to see him here

he was treated with suspicion

though he mastered their language

he felt no real bond with them

lived like a loner until he had urges

he was male with sexual surges!

Observing knew they were violent

a breed who he did not trust

now weary as they had advanced

rapidly with their technology

over such a short evolution span

since his exile still no plan!

His crafts equipment mostly destroyed

fears he could be detected

muted by the hope to find the means

of sending a signal home

a reluctant witness of man’s carnage

and unrelenting rage!

Now into the sixties watched landings

upon the earth’s only moon

it gave him the determination to try

cautiously gathered items

to make a transmitter to emit a signal

how long would be his vidual?

Unaware that he had drawn attention

the country’s secret service

had started watching his every move

he continued with excitement

using any viable components he found

hoping to hear a friendly sound!

Deep in thought and a finding meaning

to a long unwanted existence

turned on the newly constructed beacon

cried out with joy as it worked

he could only wait now in hope of success

had to leave this planet

but closing in was a military raiding team

would they shatter his dream?

The evening was approaching wet so cold

he could feel within himself

danger was coming knowing the sounds

around after such a long term

staring at the lit screen willing for a reply

here did not want to die!

His cabin was surrounded by armed men

also at that moment it happened

a beep blared from his crude made device

green flashing light and indicator

a faint sound also told him it was his race

his signal they were able to trace!

Heard the faint footsteps of somebody close

escaped through a tunnel

as the cabin was raided he headed away

with no intention to be caught

after living without detection for this long

could not let anything go wrong!

Reaching his ship set the self-destruction

peering into the skies could see

a speeding object heading to his location

this was the rescue ship

to take him home then hovered overhead

a beam shone his clothes shed!

Instantly elevated into the circular disk

and then the craft was gone

soldiers were upon the scene aimlessly

firing rapidly into vacant air

a huge explosion and fireball detonated

the area and men obliterated!

The alien was at last back with his own race

homeward in the vacuum of space!

The Foureyed Poet.

Hunted!

The vast forest-covered the valley and mountain

a fast flowing river completed the scene

of an unspoilt wilderness untouched by man

until a logging company set up camp

given permission to remove thousands of trees

conservationists this did not please!

On the other side of the forest range nestled

a township peaceful and law-abiding

prepared for the approaching snow storms

as the first winds began to blow

they were not prepared for what was to come

or terror to which they would succumb!

Back in the logging camp it was suddenly still

as the crew lay mutilated and dead

no longer noise of the chain saws and banter

the perpetrators had long gone

leaving behind the carnage of a savage kill

no sound even the air deathly still!

The townsfolk woke to several feet of snow

covering the once naked streets

but this was just the normal no surprise

but the strange large marks

cloven hoofprints in fresh snow were new

that’s when their fear grew!

The sheriff noticed them near his window

thinking it must be a hoax

they continued into the trees some distance

following them for a while

was totally surprised they suddenly stopped

in amazement his jaw dropped!

Blood was smeared over the trunk of a tree

deep long gauges in the bark

made it more of a scene he should leave now

radioed his deputy to meet him

he being certain it was a more disturbing event

with a real menacing intent!

Soon a report of a prized horse gone missing

and the sudden exit of all creatures

fleeing so frightened from an unseen danger

raising the stakes and anticipation

of the population unaware of what was near

but soon the answer would be here!

Patrolling the sheriff found a deer in the road

freshly killed and mauled

similar marks had already found heard a noise

just seconds being distracted

never saw anything looking back it had gone

something was seriously wrong!

That sickening feeling he was now being hunted

or very soon could be cornered

drove rapidly to town as another night neared

decided to suggest to the residents

to gather in the red brick town-hall for protection

receiving not a single rejection!

A hunter arrived to tell him a friend had been killed

found his body in the branches

shaken said could not have got there on his own

remembered ancient legends

of creatures that lived deep in the dense forest

this theory was a lot to digest!

An ancient native american sacred burial site

there had to be truth in the legends

gathered at the town hall steps heard sounds

deep angry sinister loud roars

townsfolk quickly ushered to the basement

the sheriff ready for engagement!

Two armed volunteer hunters joined the hunt

as they waited for an unseen foe

soon a huge dark object was on the attack

fast and agile they were the hunted

guns blazing in pitch black had to be alert

or be slaughtered or seriously hurt!

In an instant the sheriff was now confronted

with a mass heading his way

firing it knocked him to the floor lashing out

with huge claws and teeth gnashing

bullets at first never stopped the beasts charge

as more rapidly did discharge!

Just managed to grab his knife stabbed its head

this made it fall heavily backwards

now running away as the deputy came to help

but suddenly the beats jumped up

knocking him with force through a glass door

it left a trail of blood on the floor!

Injured both struggled to stand it had vanished

shaken waited for the daylight

a search was mounted but nothing ever found

today they live in a state of terror

knowing the beast was somewhere not dead

no idea of the future that lay ahead!

Deep in the vast forest the beasts waited

to terminate the humans they hated!

The Foureyed Poet.

Watching!

On the dusty tank the soldiers stared intently

watching the shells strike

detonating onto the occupied enemy lines

as rockets and shell fire

was quickly returned in a never ending battle

creating vibration and rattle!

Each were distant from the carnage and anguish

young conscripts not hardened

warriors of  too many campaigns of aggression

again forced to protect their land

believing their cause was just without hesitation

the civilians filled with trepidation!

But as with all brutal conflicts it breeds more hate

resentment creating much bigger foe

a cycle of revenge and bloody savage retaliation

as the very young bitterly grow up

the horrors absorbed into impressionable minds

peace hopes fading behind closing blinds!

The ever mounting strife going back to long ago

hard to break historical differences

each have grievances and suspicions to tell

that seem impossible to resolve

the deaths and injuries continue to increase

can a way ever be found for peace?

My wishes always for a planet without wars!

The Foureyed Poet.

Chemistry!

Over their childhood years the two teenagers

lived close to each other

there was a chemistry but neither spoke

or communicated feelings

wrapped up in their harsh every day living

a love yet for them to be giving.

Each drawn into a nations annual contest

where two from each tribe

chosen to fight until only one would stand

with twenty-two others united

once chaste teenagers are now prepared

trained to kill no mercy spared!

Televised live for all to share in the gore

and excitement of the hunt

manipulated by the governing council

the young die in their plan

profit in the end rules the young lives

as the greedy contrives!

No regrets for those lost during the spectacle

paramount morals long gone

forging the most savage means of death

is encouraged for excitement

and to thrill the prying mass audience

making the hunt more intense!

Once placed onto the field of their combat

the two came to face each other

no longer secret admirers but enemies

who would must kill or be killed

during the brutal pursuit became a team

not part of the organisers scheme!

They saved each other from instant death

the watching public increased

the host decided to change the rules himself

as the love story unfolded

increasing the obstacles to raise risk factor

raising audiences to shout for more!

Nearly at their destination beasts are released

eager to rip them apart

both just making it to a safe  high vantage point

one more contestant attacks

the engineered fairytale ending nearly derailed

but between them the assailant failed!

Slipping off safe ground into the creatures jaws

they quickly made their escape

off the field of battle to a spot then picked up

by helicopter back to the city

where both were greeted as heroes of the hour

feeling the influence and power!

The euphoria would be short only one must live

the host who made the decision

was found dead and the hunt for these teenagers

would soon make them run

either of the victors it was decreed must perish

the organisers sentiment did not cherish!

The Foureyed Poet.

The Gladiator!

The gladiator faced a fierce deadly foe

forced into the arena

stained with blood of many men before

hostile crowds jeering

shouting abuse with an increasing fire

a savage death their desire!

No shade the sun burnt  unprotected skin

sweat poured from each pore

clad in leather armour and metal helmet

with growing agitation

watching his opponent slowly advance

to quickly kill the chance!

Holding sharp swords and small shields

to maximise the injuries

every blow followed by a baying crowd

sapping their strength

chunks of flesh gouged by pitiless slashes

with the increased clashes!

The superior champion gladiator parried

knowing how to defeat

overpowering without mercy his quarry

hacking him to the ground

the final merciful strike raised a cheer

the death bloody and severe!

Lifting his dripping sword above his head

saluting crowd and dignitary

triumphant and proud the people’s hero

another victory achieved

impassive while body was hastily removed

again his superiority proved!

The gladiator proudly went to receive his trophy!

The Foureyed Poet.

Always That Fear!

There was always that fear deep within his mind

that what had taken his father

could easily happen to him he was at that age

the hurt had never gone away

the sight of him turning into that evil creature

like watching a horror feature!

But those years of regret had been pushed aside

life cannot be lived that way

then one day like a replay it happened to him

talking one moment then pain

next memory waking up later alive but weak

finding it hard to speak!

A metallic taste in his mouth and chewing on flesh

a body by his side near bins

in a dingy part of the city he did not recognise

nobody was about he felt sick

running away from there like an animal after a kill

he sensed a satisfaction and thrill!

Was this going to be his life from now on he mused

as he went into his home

trying not to wake his wife as the hunger remained

what was he going to do

showering it lingered as blood went down the drain

now feeling despair and strain!

The next morning he awoke bright back to normal

it now seemed just a dream

at breakfast heard the news of the savage murder

there was nothing he could do

but knew like his old man there would be many more

something he could not ignore!

This was the time his wife excitedly gave him the news

she was expecting their first child

at first elated this was what they wanted so much

then inside reality hit home

knowing another beast would be born to kill if a boy

it would have to wait his joy!

Until he could know what the child’s sex would be

a decision had to be made

the cycle had to be broken it could not continue

why had it happened so late

truly believed the curse would not affect his life

leaving for work kissed his wife.

The creature awakened within him once gain

he must not lose control!

Always that fear!

Face Against The Window!

I saw the girls face against the window pane

twisted in pure terror!

At that moment I just didn’t understand

her screams were muffled.

Approaching not knowing how to assist

blood pouring from each wrist!

Looking inside she had vanished from view

the place was in darkness!

Not a murmur came from within the walls

but shuddered just being there!

Approaching the door cautiously terrified

compelled to go inside.

The urge to powerful I had no choice but enter

a shadowy figure materialised!

Fearsome I’d never seen such a thing before

thinking it would savage me!

Yet left me quivering completely unscathed

in my own sweat bathed!

Finding a switch I turned on blazing lights

blood spattered every where!

Shocked like a Coward I ran back outside

from a distance I saw the girl.

Crawling out mutilated onto the pathway

if only that day I could replay!

Angry for not helping this damsel in need

returning to see what I could do!

The girl ripped apart by large sharp claws

looking ghastly she didn’t move!

Checking to see if she had actually died

her long nails ripped my side!

Got up and ran again before anybody came

home the only place I was safe.

Eventually stared into my bathroom mirror

the wound had congealed.

This was weird it was healing and no pain

in my shower refreshing rain.

The problems had just started I soon realised

when the moon was full!

I often recall the girls face aganist the window

and hope she was deceased!

Turning into a werewolf on each lonely night

with my teeth to tear and bite!

But I know she is out there and we will meet

maybe to share the fresh meat!

Jess!

She laid on the varnished wooden floor observing

nothing seemed different.

The children played and jumped on her back

as normal sighed getting up.

Walking away keeping a quiet presence

the love for her immense!

Part of the family they had called her Jess

not one of the illegal breeds.

A golden labrador with a gentle nature

but on that day it changed!

An urgent call to the police was received

the scene they hadn’t perceived.

Jess sat calmly on the wooden front porch

covered in blood wagging her tail!

Inside the house two badly mutilated bodies

as if attacked by a savage beast!

They heard children whimpering nearby

an awful sobbing cry!

Two children were found in a walk in wardrobe

both in a state of shock.

Jess offered no resistance when she was handled

licking and barking loudly.

The police were very wary putting her in a cage

there was no sign of any rage!

The dwelling was sealed the children taken to safety

after tests it was proved.

Jess had killed her owners the only witnesses told

of their friend going crazy!

The once beloved pet was quickly put to sleep

sadness in the county ran deep!

It was never disclosed that in the dogs blood sample

an unknown virus was found!

But it just disappeared before its origin was traced

so the mystery remained!

The case was closed a tragic accident and filed away

until another call the following Sunday!

Now the authorities began to fear the worst!
