Attention!

The police cruiser slowly went passed

something had caught his eye

in the murky light saw a movement

now had drawn his attention

to a large abandoned furniture store

something was amiss for sure!

Had he seen it not rational to him

it came through a wall

the figure vanished from his sight

had to check the scene

at first there was just his reflection

nobody needed protection!

Decided to head back to the patrol car

then in the window noticed

another image was close by his side

yet upon glancing around

beside himself the area was totally clear

what was going on unclear!

He was a logical man but this rattled him

decided to patrol on foot

though had to be careful being on his own

turning into an alley

lead to the rear of the derelict premises

could this be his nemeses!

It was creepy though a sceptic had to admit

every noise made him jump

in the narrow alleyway there was no escape

suddenly confronted by a this shape

that  seemed to come through the brick wall

drawing his gun as he began to fall!

Hitting the ground hard he fired at the object

the bullet ricocheted off a metal sign

just missing his head then he met the ground

stunned called for back up

certain he had hit the intruder in the chest

for the first time was distressed!

In the dark now feeling vulnerable and alone

dizzy his face really in pain

sure somebody was close by staggered forward

as a colleague came to his aid

said he had pursued an intruder but got away

what else could he say?

A search was made but nothing was ever found

he learnt that others had reported

ghostly shadows had appeared from nowhere

but knew the policy of the force

dealing with facts certainly not the unknown

on this knew he was alone!

While on sick leave delved into the paranormal

his attitude changed to the possibility

of monsters and spirits they could really exist

he had to find out what he had seen

that night his being was filled with foreboding

that him something was goading!

This decision he would soon regret forever!

Cheating!

She had no indication that he was cheating

so in love with her handsome man

been happily together more than seven years

married for just over five pure bliss

sexual relations had not noticed problems

attentive as ever the good husband

to friends she described him as so perfect

infidelity certainly did not detect!

Even when her best friend made excuses

that coincided with his work

schedule that had never arisen before

a gut feeling came into play

did not want to believe these musings

that flooded her once clear mind

but unable to shake her agitations decided

by her instincts had to be guided!

Such an awkward moment confronted him

had known him all those years

but had she really or was it all just a big lie

how shocked he said innocently

always convincing with his puppy-dog smile

that always melted her heart

began to feel guilt ridden for having doubt

to think he had put himself about!

Their first major row did not end well that night

he had gone to work early

so never saw him at breakfast received a call

her friend wanted to come around

sensed she had something needed to discuss

both sat nervously eye contact poor

when a guilty conscience could not hide the lie

no longer could the affair deny!

Her one true love had cheated living a deception

from that day knew the marriage

was over when he came home told him to leave

refused to admit he had an affair

but left quietly forever to regret losing her love

she to finished with her closes friend

three lives that changed time could not replay

each went their separate way!

Regret!

Regret the only word he could think of at the time

hidden in the deep military bunker

risking his thoughts being read by the computers

doubting the technology advances

he had created to combat the android revolution

that was now part of our evolution!

Even as the inventor began to think it was crazy

to have created these robotics

but being under orders had to complete this task

finding the answer how to out smart

superior machines created by man’s God complex

their creation had upon all put a hex!

Down in the deep bunker in his sophisticated lab

knew this would not be safe for long

could hear the explosions rapidly becoming louder

secure computers would be hacked

his software had been tested on human subjects

classed by his masters as rejects!

Within the hour alarms rang out in the complex

security arrived said time to go

communication systems immediately shut down

running through escape tunnels

quickly made their way to a high-speed bullet train

their lives desperately trying to retain!

A split second later the whole base was disintegrated

the androids had not killed their mark

unable to eliminate him yet certain software erased

yet this too had also been rescued

so the war would intensify their superiority had ended

into unknown depths humanity descended!

The conflict between man and machine entered a new phase!

Perturbed!

Entering his garage found the car engine running

perturbed thought it very odd

must be an electrical fault what else could it be

yet held the key in his hand

there was more to this unusual event he pondered

as the bad memories stirred!

Only a few weeks ago had placed his wife in the car

tense as he had been questioned

so far his plans had worked well thought a suicide

she had a history of depression

plenty of pills plus the fumes yet guilt lingered on

hated her but knew it was wrong!

Was it just that a feeling of regret at the repulsive act

or was there more still felt her near

put aside any nagging doubts opened the garage door

reversed out had to meet his girlfriend

until his wife’s demise was known as his mistress

she would get rid of this stress!

Even driving to work became  an increasing problem

never seemed to be alone

at his office computers kept shutting off objects missing

his chair moved and incessant calls

but nobody ever on the other end was getting paranoid

this odd conduct co-workers him did avoid!

But the day did come when he swore he saw his dead wife

smelling the perfume she always wore

just before the wheel violently turned and off the road

into a tree at speed the car swerved

an unfortunate accident the police report clearly read

now like his wife he to was dead!

In And Out of Debt

Through out his life in and out of debt

and never ending regret!

Who can he blame nobody but himself

one of those without wealth.

Worked for everything owned in life

like most moments of strife.

Working for fifty years  for his pension

not very much to mention.

Respect for the elderly does not exist

statistics today insist.

They keep raising the age we can retire

hoping the people will expire!

Those who have money the pensions great

not for them the NHS wait!

Though it’s easy for everybody to moan

each day is the unknown!

Times may seem hard in this day and age

what’s on man’s next page?

Desolation Manor!

It was another working day for the carpenter

one of a group renovating a house

admittedly it was a big premises with a past

named oddly Desolation Manor

but he found himself uneasy being inside

afraid this he denied!

Here in an overgrown country park at dawn

arriving before anyone else

the manor looked more bleak on this day

very reluctant to go near

never liked working here standing outside

his time to bide!

All the while drawn to a mother and child

waiting at the main door

trying to turn away he heard a child laugh

nobody else was about

compelled to take another look that way

an empty doorway on display!

At last his fellow workers came down the drive

he felt very relieved

greeting each other they went into the dim hall

his job renovating the staircase

hearing their laughter echoing in the building

soon he had regret coming in!

Opening his tool box a loud sound up the stairs

instinctively glancing that way

a couple  argued where had they come from

the man pushed the female

falling violently down with a pitiful scream

blood flowed like a stream!

A child came into view kneeling by the body

sobbing holding a still hand

he jumped back in a spontaneous reaction

but nothing was visible

in a cold sweat he picked up his tool case

never returning to that place!

Nor dare to look back or speak of it again!
