Desert Highway!

The long straight desert highway

stretched into the hazy distance

putting his foot down to the floor

wanted the freedom and space

had not intended causing trouble

why had he not just divorced

but jealousy consumed his day

the wife too often played away!

Lashed out when he caught her

saw lover go over the railings

had only punched him the once

panicking had fled the scene

his wife’s screams cursing him

with his rage had hit her too

regretted it knew this last straw

his whole body tense and raw!

As the sun rose from the desert

had that sensation of utter relief

a killer on the run had to laugh

until twenty four hours before

as usual sitting behind his desk

in denial of partners infidelity

now there was no turning back

far too late to backtrack!

Above an object was following

certain it must be a helicopter

panic set in they had found him

straining to see where it was

it came low in front of the car

as the UFO crossed his path

lost control and the car rolled

he was knocked out cold!

It was now dark when he awoke

the soft sand taking impact

managed to get out a little sore

alone in the dark chilly night air

dazed stood by the highway

mind confused what was real

a patrol car came into sight

within in him no more fight!

Returned to face consequences

to find no charges made

man had not died by his hand

but marriage was at last over

she wanting this new lover

did not mention what he saw

yet changed his life evermore

an understatement for sure!

It was a few days later he noticed

puncture wounds and bruising

on his body what had ensued

the answers had to be pursued!

A Lovely Daughter!

A lovely daughter full of life and hope

spending a day with her family

catching up as she now lived far away

visiting familiar and fond places

memories that could never be erased

so much joy was raised!

Strolling along the harbour and old pier

no thought of violence in mind

a link between father and precious child

without any warning a shot

is heard then his child sinks to the floor

his emotions soon to be raw!

A lone figure runs quickly from the scene

concerned only with escape

leaving a stunned father holding his sibling

fatally wounded cradled  in his arms

asking for his help he was unable to give

for this atrocity hard to forgive!

In silence he stayed until medics arrived

sadly too late for any hope

within those seconds reality had changed

a precious life denied

real happiness taken by a culture of evil

her place nothing could fill!

Rest in peace another victim of a violence!

Never!

Never being on time getting up ever later

the excuse today to cold

eventually his partner placed cold feet

on his back he soon got up

realising it was later now he had to rush

leaving the house in a hush.

Forgot to put the car in the large garage

was covered in a thick frost

swearing under his breath it was his fault

now he was definitely late

turning the ignition key it would not start

then an explosion blew it apart!

From her slumber the wife abruptly roused

into a nightmare of reality

glass flying across the large front bedroom

their two children crying

not understanding what caused the havoc

sadly there was no turning back!

Struggling to stand her feet cut and bleeding

glanced out acrid smoke rose

she saw the flames and burning wrecked car

but had to be with the children

holding back the tears she knew he was dead

glanced at the double bed!

In their room the children cowered bewildered

running up to their mother

almost knocking her to the ground gripping tight

there they stayed for some time

then the expected knock on the door she knew

for Josh nothing could they do!

Her husband had been a soldier only a year before

the army and civilian police

were investigating who could have been involved

but their lives had to continue

they could not stay in that house not safe any more

the memories forever raw!

Turning The Key!

It had been a long shift she was glad to be home

as usual placed the key in the lock

yet this time turning the key seemed harder

it opened stiffly in her mind

now was on alert feeling very uncomfortable

usually calm and at ease as a rule!

Hesitating outside her own apartment door

silly she thought boldly entered

nothing out of place or signs of a break in

but tonight it was so  wrong

turned on the disc player for a distraction

lighten the mood have fun!

Heated up a meal she had prepared earlier

being tired got ready for bed

seemed cooler than normal heating was on

it was a cold December night

remembering it was warm when she came in

the nightmare would soon begin!

Never had any problems before though told

awhile before she bought it

heard rumours drug dealers used it for deals

but happily here for two years

nothing was confirmed this was her home

now sensed something did roam!

Almost reluctant now to retire for the night

but the hour had become late

approaching the bed noticed an indentation

as if somebody laid there

she froze then before here eyes it was gone

the urge to run strong!

Though unseen was sure there was a presence

dreading it she half turned

it was as if somebody had quickly passed by

like a blurry human shape

more noise now came the from the bathroom

entering a black shape did loom!

The bath taps running the air was ice-cold

she could take no more

grabbed what she could made for the door

at first would not open

panic consumed her wrestling with the catch

her strength no match!

She screamed in frustration and fear of her life

then it opened with force

not stopping found herself on the pavement

glancing up at her window

a person was looking down the image raw

she never entered any more!

To this day nobody will purchase this apartment!

What had triggered these events?
