Devouring!

As if directed by dark unseen forces

spreading from a acrid domain

flames ignited consuming everything

once arid forests and homes

swiftly succumbed to the raging fires

rising into black smoke spires!

 

Devouring all living matter in its wake

nothing sacred with such heat

those grasslands now totally destroyed

nothing left but smoldering ashes

in communities no matter their prestige

as each became under siege!

 

Ferocious and hungry any daylight masked

their lungs gasping to breath

trapped as they perilously tried to escape

the routes to safety fading

facing ahead death anguish and disbelief

victims united by loss and grief!

 

From the ashes soon comes another dawn!

Exposed!

The wind lashed with force across the land

which exposed the metal cover

covertly hidden from any human curiosity

on restricted military land

where lethal chemicals were secretly stored

the public would be appalled!

 

Underneath a large concrete and steel base

nuclear weapons there as well

primed ready for an immediate deployment

and facilities for an army

guarded twenty four seven through the year

a secret facility so near!

 

A vast complex not designed for public use

now had a raging fire

evacuation plans immediately set in motion

to clear the population

as it was becoming an unavoidable holocaust

where thousands could be lost!

 

Though their biggest worry was the radiation

if the missiles were ignited

a story not far from the real frightening truth

was broadcast as army and police

started the evacuation as the fire was fought

knowing the situation was fraught!

 

Even as the people were forced from the area

the first explosion came

that showered the air with the deadly radiation

followed by lethal chemicals

there was no chance for the fleeing population

as it spread all over the nation!

 

News agencies reported a major chemical blast

had left hundreds dead

with countless numbers also critically injured

a state of emergency declared

the authorities deception was firmly in place

once more deceiving the human race!

 

From then on martial law was upon us imposed

with a traumatized nation ruled unopposed!

Pressure!

Another day of hard graft ended at last

as a husband struggled home

drained of energy eager to see his wife

on a damp dark cold night

not wanting to show his rising stress

just feel her tender caress!

 

Working two jobs to make ends meet

the wife worked all day

two teenager children well thank god

a mortgage and rising debt

had become to him an increasing strain

but his hope would remain!

 

Society was creating too much pressure

bills and taxes ruled

cost of living forever on the upward scale

holidays but a memory

easy to feel there was no fun anymore

there were many really poor!

 

Wars raging refugees and homeless growing

the seasons disappearing

what was his reasons to moan he was lucky

home at last always glad

the wife was in the kitchen making dinner

noisy music he was a winner!

 

A kiss from his wife hello dad from the kids

they sat as a family together

at that moment all frustrations evaporated

until the new day felt good

money could not better this precious time

to him it was sublime!
