Remember!

What has changed over the many centuries

brave men and women volunteer

to serve and fight for their countries in wars

thrust into those endless conflicts

giving their lives souls and many body parts

there after breaking families hearts!

Peace just a word that has been used to entice

those with that pride to protect

the humanity that they are each a small part

who are willing to suffer and die

through shocking hardships and real brutality

yet can man change his mentality?

While those who instigate plans profit stay safe

and weapons from nations kill

those they say their freedom fight to protect

lines are blurred who is the enemy

millions continue to be eliminated on the front line

the end to the butchery no sign!

Another year has come when we remember them

the fallen graves spread over the fields

some its only a name many there is no name at all

giving the ultimate sacrifice their lives

yet nothing changes the unrest continues to grow

the bloodshed ever onward’s doth flow!

I remember those who believed in their loyalty

without question went with pride

hopefully bringing everlasting peace to humanity

through their armed resistance

yet still wait for that moment of world unity

that final end to so much hostility!

In my humility stand silently to remember the fallen!

Imposing!

It had an imposing image for a new hospital

though in developement accidents

during construction of the district infirmary

even on its opening day

injuries caused by more structural damage

was annoying at this stage!

Nothing would get in the way of the progress

prestige pride most of all money

forced the building on no matter the sacrifice

only a few knew the real truth

how it was pushed through breaking the law

not for a second did they pause!

The land was not of a suitable consistency

as beneath it had been excavated

some years before an object was retrieved

quickly by an unknown group

who arrived rapidly taking it from the site

in the middle of a summer’s night!

Locals were never informed of what it was

or who had whisked it away

rumours of an alien craft and high radiation

were never answered

it had always had a mystical evil reputation

and a strong feeling of intimidation!

Nobody would go near the open land in fear

so it caused a huge debate

when the new hospital was then approved

now the day was finally here

its doors were opened and with trepidation

entered with a nervous hesitation!

Impressed by the splendour they gathered

in the huge entrance lobby

the medical director was on a raised podium

cynically smiling at them

the commotion was faint at first few heard

soon none could hear a word!

Staff not at the opening started shouting

as if warning of danger

screams became shrill as the groups met

mayhem rapidly ensued

creatures like large moths were overhead

swooping as people fled!

Grabbing anybody with their long claws

taking them up high

dropping them on to the polished floor

crashing onto the crowd

those who could get out were attacked

beasts with weapons hacked!

From the grounds other snake-like things

slid towards those trapped

senior directors tried to make a getaway

found there was no escape

with so many of the dignitaries present

were hell bound sent!

As it had begun it ended the beasts vanished

leaving devastation behind

everyone concerned with its creation had gone

the hospital was unsafe

those still alive got away never to return here

a supernatural power involved clear!

It now stands abandoned a reminder of events

a grotesque cursed building

that only the foolish would even contemplate

approaching let alone enter

strange sightings and weird sounds reported

sceptics say natural sounds distorted!

No explanation for the events have been given

for investigators their curiosity is driven!

Winter Snow!

High in the mountains lay a small logging town

that during the summer months

crews were active cutting down the old tall trees

then quickly transporting them

either by river or trucks off the mountainside

working hard for profit and pride!

This was until winter snow set in and cut it off

from the rest of the country

as rivers froze and all roads were impassable

it became a small ghost town

the permanent residence of sixty-five souls

much easier for the sheriffs patrols!

A tough fifty-five year old widow father of three

two daughter’s lived in the city

the eldest was his deputy making a good team

at home in the desolate wilderness

knowing trouble could erupt any help distant

but fugitives would meet resistance!

Legends of the Sasquatch and ghosts haunting

this vast inhospitable wildness

never really bothered these officers of the law

until the first body was found

kneeling head bowed as if  they were praying

terror on their face displaying!

Over several weeks more bodies were discovered

exactly the same in different areas

very perplexing there were no  physical marks

on any of the eight bodies

none were local all were male of varying  ages

decomposition at different stages!

Out of their depth called on detectives from the city

who were also baffled at this case

no clues nor tracks were anywhere close at hand

the only course of action watch

risky as there was no indication of what it could be

in the snow and each pine tree!

The autopsies showed they died from heart attacks

these fit young males scared to death

the conclusion of the coroner nothing else was found

help could only be flown there

as an atmosphere of uncertainty and panic spread

why so many strangers found dead?

The sheriff and his trusty deputy and six city cops

made their way into the mountains

uncertain where to position the limited numbers

to seek out what they knew not

the temperature dropped the snow began to fall

their enthusiasm began to stall!

Being police officers expected a rational solution

even with the lack of evidence

gathered in the area where  corpses discovered

from there in pairs spread out

for the nights vigil hoping it could be resolved

and causes of deaths solved!

With cloudy skies and increasing heavy snowfall

wishing they were in a warm place

hoping the riddle could finally be settled tonight

through the bad weather and foliage

a blue pulsating haze formed coming their way

to their rapidly increasing dismay!

Within this mesmerizing haze there seemed to be

a grotesque beast metamorphosing

before their vision the deputy turned her gaze

contacting the others not to stare

static was all that came through no human voices

what now thinking her choices?

A groan from close by had her running she knew

it was her dad he was alive

awful ear-splitting sounds came made her feel sick

reaching the crumpled figure

kneeling grabbing him with all the will power

she could muster as it had gone sour!

Stumbling and falling in the deepening soft snow

exhausted reached the jeep

the phenomena no longer was anywhere in sight

soon heading back to their office

to report what had occurred soon reaching base

knowing this was a classified case

Once back in the warm and familiar surroundings

felt better but deeply shaken

after contacting the police headquarters waited

for the reinforcements to come

they knew the military were alerted to investigate

there was little time to contemplate!

What was this frightening and unknown apparition

this would be their dominating mission!

Dilemma!

What an awesome future said her husband

so excited their first child

buying their own home careers on track

with care finances good

parents to taking the news in their stride

filled with happiness and pride.

As the months went by the baby was fine

scans were perfect to view

mum started having pains in the chest

just indigestion it must be

nothing else that it could be so a delay

before the day she had to say!

Test were carried out a diagnosis found

the results were back

and the conclusions not good for her

a series heart condition

needing to have major surgery or die

but she could not comply.

The baby would be put at a serious risk

and not likely to live

determined her child would be safe

refused the operation

until cradled in her arms protected

the decision she elected!

Her husband was torn between them both

understanding the decision

months passed until the thirtieth week

her condition deteriorated

urgent caesarean section had to be done

and they had a healthy son!

But the strain was too much for his mum

having a spinal anaesthetic

had her wish holding him in her arms

and a precious photo saved

realising she may never see him grow

that day did not let it show!

But she is still alive and continuous fighting

every day a precious gift!

Behind The Barricade!

Behind the barricade each were equal

no distinction prevailed

expressing vocally their nation’s pride

unity of wills and passion

afraid that their identity would be lost

at an unforgivable cost!

From a peaceful but loud demonstration

good-humoured and fun

violence erupted and that moment gone

becoming more sinister

cries now not of joy but panic and pain

as comrades now lay slain!

Behind the barricades placards discarded

the tensions increasing

peaceful protests lost to a radical element

as the acrid smoke rises

from burning tyres and missiles thrown

the future now unknown!

The once calm and familiar city centre

streets and communal parks

now battle zones raging out of control

and the ripples of rebellion

no more talk and discussions to dwell

they enter the realms of hell!

On the precipice their lives on the edge!

That Glance

That glance he had not seen for so long

it was rather good

foolish he thought smiling his face red

that a young woman

could make him feel being wanted again

yet knew had to refrain.

It was only kindness and a polite gesture

this was his way

of combating the loneliness that filled him

simple interaction

gave hope to boost that emptiness inside

he still had pride.

That glance a smile that moment remained

within his memory

no unkind or lustful thoughts but well-being

he could interact

maybe one day he would find a special friend

his loneliness to end!

On Haunted Ground!

Civil wars must leave such terrible scars

upon a nations memories

what influence on future generations

embedded in their culture

from across the big pond does it exist

those ghosts that persist?

On haunted ground do their spirits roam

three hunters wanted to see

out onto the battlefields dared venture

over vast silent earth

respectful of those lives now long passed

and all remnants now masked!

Setting their feet upon these acres of green

to find out for themselves

if they could communicate with soldiers gone

delicately on graves to tread

wandering in darkness and the atmosphere

would they want to appear?

Electronic equipment at hand ready to be used

to capture any paranormal events

deep sadness now consumed their open minds

as sounds of gunfire was heard

cannons and muskets echoed across the fields

how many times had soldiers yield!

There was nobody else to cause those sounds

in that eerie chilling stillness

asking boldly on which side had  they fought

on the recorder a voice was caught

saying confederate in a voice rasping and low

who it was they could not know!

The dawn broke and the three were exhausted

leaving they were sure with proof

that in these old fields of many bloody battles

there unresting spirits existed

seeking that rest that had long been denied

but also a sense of pride!

Mary!

The elderly man was lonely since his wife had died

he would not accept help had his pride.

Not an easy life and a soldier in the last world war

but nobody seemed to care any more.

What he did for his king and country just history

his life was in the past to most a mystery!

Finding it difficult without Mary to face each day

his depression would not go away.

Two grown up children they never came to call

not since Mary had died after the fall.

Living in the same house for nearly fifty-two years

they were so happy now shed only tears.

He lost the will to live so Ben fell into endless sleep

no longer for that burden to keep.

Twelve months later neighbours reported a smell

lingering where from they could not tell.

There were a  few relatives that could be found

when he was buried in the ground!

But Ben was now by his wife’s side once again.

At least she loved him and cared!
