Uncharted!

Excitedly they boarded the truck

to take them to base camp

for the start of their adventure

to explore icy wastelands

scientists and good friends bound

for uncharted ground!

Setting off in a heavy snow storm

rising up into the mountains

after several hours decided to stop

for the night it was tiring

placing their tents close together

protection from the weather!

Told wolves were known to roam

before settling down

saw lights darting in the distance

then they went to sleep

for any deadly danger not aware

or in the vicinity of any lair!

Communications could not be made

putting it down to weather

but after four days the team at base

became very concerned

sending a search and rescue squad

through thick snow trod!

The mist hung low over the mountains

came upon three tents

each badly torn in one a body laid

mutilated a look of terror

another just in night-gown bare feet

the mood became downbeat!

Another body found without clothes

soon two close together

frozen also mutilated fear on faces

what had happened here

then three days before anymore

such a vast area to explore!

The rest just in night attire here so cold

it was though they fled

in fear of their lives happening quickly

yet there were no tracks

but only of those who were deceased

not of any monstrous beast!

The last victim was the most bizarre

tongue and lower jaw missing

blood had been drained from her to

conspiracy theories grew

a hundred years on from that date

endures to be a weird debate!

Just one more unsolved mystery!

Impulse!

It was on impulse he stopped he thought

this thundery night as the rain fell

in a blinding lightning flash was certain

something was standing ahead

that moment of dread overwhelmed him

certain this was no imaginary whim!

Had only one pint with a meal an hour ago

was feeling fine until now

decided to drive on the car would not start

then all the electrics failed

now really scared he just watched the storm

another flash closer a shape did form!

It looked like a woman in a white nightgown

long straggly dark hair

soaked the head bowed standing in the road

thinking she was distressed

yet that gut instinct was telling him to stop

this was but a false backdrop!

Another loud thunder-clap and bright flash

now stood close to the bonnet

head was raised exposing a grotesque face

skeletal in its appearance

at this shocking image there was no escape

what really was the monstrous shape?

Frenzy overwhelmed him he was trapped

pulling at the door handle

until his hands bled he started to go mad

another flash nothing was there

until he sensed movement from behind

for his fate was resigned!

With an almighty clap of thunder he knew

it was with him in the car

nobody heard his muffled pitiful screams

as beside him the thing sat

his heart and mind could take it no more

as the rain outside did pour!

As daylight broke the storm had abated

a passing farmer found him

lights and engine running on the roadway

glancing in saw the expression

of terror slumped pale staring wide-eyed

he was all alone inside!

The Door!

There was the key he had lost some years ago

that fitted the rusting lock

belonging to the door at the top of narrow stairs

in his dead uncle’s house

that was told by him every visit never to go near

how inside wanted to peer!

Now in his thirties the warning clearly remembered

his aunt within still resided

had found the key in the uncle’s study desk draw

fear had never left him

took it home on a hook in his own kitchen placed

soon noticed it had been misplaced!

After searching for a while puzzled where it was

was distracted with other thoughts

now confronted with the keys re-appearance

renewed his long-lost fears

realising the time was here to face his own past

decided to open the door at last!

At his uncle’s house his aunt sat so frail and old

let her know he was there

then took his long dreaded steps to the door

the dust made him cough

spiders cobwebs made his blood pressure high

his childhood nightmare was nigh!

With his mind screaming to leave right away

turned the key pushed it open

an awful odour made him retch as he faltered

fumbled for a light switch

could not find one yet the wall seemed so wet

stood helpless with regret!

More use to the darkness the landing light shone

creating creepy odd shadows

he became aware of something near the window

that had been blacked out

metal bars screwed in front something slithered

sinking to the floor his strength withered!

And on top of him was a monstrous drooling freak

with a deep throaty voice spoke

welcome home brother aunty said you were coming

in the doorway she stood

glad you to have met at long last she closed the door

nothing was heard of him anymore!

His cries for help were never heard!

The Cruise!

The middle-aged couple looked over the ocean

on the deck of the cruise liner

enjoying the warm beautiful Caribbean sunset

sipping a fruity red wine

unaware of the creature crawling up the side

for them nowhere to hide!

Leaving a slime trail it slithered over the rail

down onto the empty deck

silently approaching the contented couple

opening its jaws wide

now exposing large angled razor-sharp teeth

death came from beneath!

There was no time to give any warning cry

the man savaged and swallowed

the woman violently knocked overboard

unable to make a sound

falling to more sea monsters basking below

her blood no longer did flow!

Unaware of the nearing danger passengers

slept or partied as normal

the captain still on duty pacing the bridge

viewing the radar at the blips

wondering what was causing this oddity

then not knowing their ferocity!

Rare thinking a schooling of fish were passing

not for long as reports came in

of monstrous creatures swarming the ship

attacking everybody on all levels

immediately sending out an urgent Mayday call

before their end did befall!

But for a twist of fate the message was delayed

was it the position on the sea

or an electrical storm that distorted the signal

by the time any rescue arrived

no life remained upon this passenger vessel

a mystery searchers had to wrestle!

Now classed a crime scene the ship was towed

from its very remote last position

but underneath the hull these creatures gripped

with powerful suckers undetected

into the main sea port ready to unleash their terror

that would become a shocking error!

The nightmare had just begun!

Monstrous!

Years after the monstrous events had passed

the buildings a vile reminder

of the atrocities thrust upon an innocent people

nothing stirred no birds sang

not even insects wanted to go anywhere near

only the ghosts were still here!

Though empty in a dilapidated condition today

deep depression fills the area

surrounding lands and air stifling oppressive

bombarded by unseen whispers

you are unable to imagine or even comprehend

to such depravity did descend!

Seemingly miles of rusting barbed wire fences

guard towers peering down

on long rotting wooden huts many destroyed

brutality treated subhuman

images seen by the world from not so long ago

lessons not learned we know!

Here lay the families their last resting place

generations obliterated

denied their birth right a chance to exist

through the tribulations and joy

degradation and death their ghosts remain

of the people who were slain!

Onward the butchery of those who want peace!

Camp Fire!

On that chilly cold moonlit autumn night

friends sat by a camp fire

to keep warm and tell ghost stories

the lads full of male bravado

natural sounds amplifying the mood

the language loud and crude!

The group of five now eagerly waited

for Tom the eldest to start

then a distant flash of light lit his face

showing a monstrous outline

flinching backwards yelling in surprise

watching with suspicious eyes!

In a quiet voice his macabre tale began

five years ago on holiday

with my parents and younger brother

decided to explore a cave

over slippery and sharp rocks we scaled

at the entrance exhausted exhaled!

Outside of the cave  hot with a sea breeze

but within dark and menacing

both faltered being reluctant to venture in

not wanting to be called scared

into the natural chamber we ran side by side

footsteps echoing it was ebb tide.

Unaware of time wandered into the unknown

deeper bats were flying around

my brother wanted to leave to me adventure

there was a sound like moaning

in the dim light movement a few feet ahead

of course I had to onward tread!

My brother froze afraid to come with me

a few paces on there stood

what looked like a skeleton dressed in rags

coming towards me then vanish

turned grabbed my brother and we ran fast

on the cave wall a shadow cast!

It was not ours the sunlight did not come within

but now it was flood tide

the water was rising higher making it a hazard

cutting ourselves on the rocks

being afraid the monster would follow us back

our courage now did lack!

Our parents more concerned about our injuries

so no mention of our fright

a wolf  howled on cue as he gave a final evil laugh

the only other willing to tell

was Jack the youngest amongst them at seventeen

who was chirpy and  keen!

As he said his first words the wood sparked loudly

and a flame shot in the air

a sudden noise nearby made his voice quiver

last year while out walking

on my own after a heated row with my girlfriend

wanting our relationship to end!

Saw a car ahead on fire as I drew near exploded

glancing inside there was a body

nearby an injured woman lay semi conscious

carefully checked how she was

then called for urgent assistance to the spot

moving her from the car it was hot!

They soon arrived and I went to guide them

but as the ambulance stopped

the crew got out and asked what was wrong

in disbelief said about the car

both looked puzzled following their gaze

nothing was there but a faint haze!

Abruptly stopping as there was like footsteps

yet nothing visible the fire went out

one week later a search party found the five

four were pronounced dead

a faint groan was heard from one Jack

he was rushed quickly back!

It seemed the other four had died of fright

what had done this during the night!

Jack never woke up again to tell them!
