Bugs?

As the car passed the historic building

surrounded by scaffolding

the driver was certain something huge

hovered amidst the structure

an orange glow from the street lights

formed an eerie pattern

that resembled a giant spider outline

its tentacles the poles did entwine!

 

Mesmerized hit a stationary parked car

air bags inflated felt the jolt

shaken they got out fearful of sighting

nobody seemed to be around

the three stood huddled then a clatter

as scaffolding began to fall

a shape dropped to the street close by

on instinct would have to rely!

 

Decided to exit certain the area was unsafe

whatever the object seen

knew it was an imminent danger to them

through an alley they ran

hopefully were making their way to safety

but came upon devastation

another arachnid scaled down a stone wall

making them feel significantly small!

 

Below a large crowd of revelers were dancing

before they could give a warning

it was upon them and many were devoured

from behind heard anguished cries

where had these things come from evaluated

as high above the sky lit up

filled with a flaming roaring meteor shower

they diverted into the high office tower!

 

Out of breath reached the top of the block

forcing open the fire escape

scrambled onto the flat roof nowhere to go

a panoramic view of the chaos

the sky was alight and fire rose from below

they witnessed the coming

of intelligent bugs swarming as fighter jets

for them no time for regrets!

 

Approaching them on the roof a huge bug

swiftly followed by missiles

the building exploded catapulting the three

into free fall this was their end

inexplicably there was a canal down below

and though from a great height

survived the hard impact hitting mud bank

then all just went blank!

 

Awoke freezing and dazed as the action raged

soldiers were around them

soon they were found and taken to a safe area

where some tale was conveyed

told the population could only be protected

if they remained in chosen districts

as authorities pursued ways of eradicating

an enemy to humans devastating!

 

It would be a long time before the people knew

the real truth of the invaders

as what is visible to our senses and is so real

the facts from us all they did conceal!

Exposed!

The wind lashed with force across the land

which exposed the metal cover

covertly hidden from any human curiosity

on restricted military land

where lethal chemicals were secretly stored

the public would be appalled!

 

Underneath a large concrete and steel base

nuclear weapons there as well

primed ready for an immediate deployment

and facilities for an army

guarded twenty four seven through the year

a secret facility so near!

 

A vast complex not designed for public use

now had a raging fire

evacuation plans immediately set in motion

to clear the population

as it was becoming an unavoidable holocaust

where thousands could be lost!

 

Though their biggest worry was the radiation

if the missiles were ignited

a story not far from the real frightening truth

was broadcast as army and police

started the evacuation as the fire was fought

knowing the situation was fraught!

 

Even as the people were forced from the area

the first explosion came

that showered the air with the deadly radiation

followed by lethal chemicals

there was no chance for the fleeing population

as it spread all over the nation!

 

News agencies reported a major chemical blast

had left hundreds dead

with countless numbers also critically injured

a state of emergency declared

the authorities deception was firmly in place

once more deceiving the human race!

 

From then on martial law was upon us imposed

with a traumatized nation ruled unopposed!

Base!

The soldier sat on duty in the guard hut

trying to stay awake

certainly would be in trouble if caught

this a classified base

where many strange items were stored

he was safe they assured!

 

A large object had been delivered recently

covered in tarpaulin sheets

by hooded figures in unmarked uniforms

in the night brought it in

remembering seeing lights moving about

taught not to feel doubt!

 

He knew it was another craft from the stars

this was not the first delivered

to this covert military facility hidden here

out in the barren desert

far away from the public’s inquisitive stare

and media who were well aware!

 

Alone with only his thoughts for company

daring not to speculate

what was far below the ground in storage

or the research being done

he was a private in the military police unit

to protect at all costs his remit!

 

Tonight had a gut feeling it would not be quiet

there had been much activity

preparing for the first perimeter patrol an alert

received an urgent message

on the radio the main fence had been breached

for his side arm he reached!

 

As he prepared to go the rest of the team arrived

in their pick up trucks

just as an explosion came from the base offices

that lead to the facility

glowing objects zoomed in from the dark skies

the action a complete surprise!

 

Within one minute reached the reported section

the ground on fire but no tracks

even more military personnel now assembled

word came of  ferocious action

in the huge laboratories and hangars beneath

the innocent sprawling heath!

 

As they raced towards the unknown enemy

frantic voices warned stay back

as a massive explosion ripped the site apart

brining them to sudden stop

from out of the flames pulsating  orbs flew

making a spectacular view.

 

They were not fired on which made no sense

an odd sort of alien  invasion

even though missiles were quickly deployed

though none actually hit

the soldier wondered what had just happened

was this a start or the end?

 

Instead of fighting their task became rescue

and evacuating survivors

followed by a major clamp down of the site

information was very sparse

but he heard it was a breakout from within

of creatures with grey skin!

 

What secrets was he part of hiding here

this was the first time he felt fear!

Uncharted!

The battleship neared the planet going into orbit

classed as a routine exploration

of the vast an uncharted sector of this galaxy

as yet no contact had been made

this did not bode well there was an anticipation

trouble stirred at this destination!

 

During the scan of the planets barren service

signs of life were discovered

not of a basic form but one highly advanced

cautiously going on red alert

detecting a missile launch from surface below

following the rising glow!

 

Safety protocols immediately brought on-line

then retreated out of orbit

shields raised to protect the ship from damage

ready for impending impact

if their weapons this object could not  destroy

evasive action would employ!

 

More missiles rapidly followed after the first

but there were none that hit

other spacecraft were detected approaching

this must be a hidden base

that they had stumbled upon that was cloaked

trouble they had not provoked!

 

Deciding it was in their interest to exit the sector

and continue their exploration

but sensed this unknown race would be trouble

as it was known marauders

were unchallenged attacking any passing ships

yet making no fatal slips!

 

Though a battleship without the rest of the star fleet

it would not be wise to engage

but gather information and report back command

this encounter was unexpected

as the ship  went into hyper drive they were not alone

another craft followed into this zone.

 

Now they knew there was an enemy and danger close

the battle fleet summoned

they would let the scout ship follow for now untouched

knowing the enemy were near

soon space would erupt into a major dog fight and war

creating breaches in intergalatic law!

 

The long war had now begun!
