The Lake!

On the large lake rising like a monolith

the disused diving board

had an unsettling image to they eye

in a popular public park

the once polluted water now teeming

with wild life and youngsters

in small canoes laughing and splashing

as on the water paddles bashing!

 

With cyclists touring around the lakeside

walkers taking in the views

dog owners chatting as their pets ran

couples in the warm air

happily sit talking watching children play

unaware of a life form mutating

adapting to its environment and spreading

on waters edge humans treading!

 

None were aware this danger was that near

the weather grew extremely hot

a fine green mesh oozed out of the water

creeping towards groups walking by

dogs senses aroused growling jumping back

owners alerted noticed spores popping

as toxins were released many folk did inhale

any attempts to escape did fail!

 

Pandemonium ensued as those able tried to flee

back from the unseen dangers

soon the whole park was rapidly evacuated

and everybody was rounded up

all held in quarantine tents and hazard suits

covered the popular beauty spot

many were taken away in special transport

as the answers were urgently sort!

 

The stories of an alien invasion were suppressed

so not to cause mass hysteria

the park is still closed without any explanation

the tensions from family friends

who wanted to know what was happening

waited on as there were rumours

more sites were effected the public in the dark

what had really been found in the park?

 

As I write there is a sombre mood never seen before!

Deep Waters!

Not even a ripple disturbed the dark deep waters

of the secluded mysterious inland lake

stories had been told for centuries of a monster

that roamed the deep below

open grassland swept down to the lapping shore

rising to the high mountainous contour!

 

Deep murky water that kept its secrets hidden

cold and unforgiving to humans

who had searched its depths for endless decades

certain the beast was within

many sightings and hoaxes kept the legend viable

not really classified as reliable!

 

But the stream of monster seekers was constant

hoping to get their glimpse of it

whatever swam and lived there below covertly

yet no conclusive evidence found

driftwood birds rippling waves it was suggested

as no beast in the waters infested!

 

Yet there is an element of possibility that lingers

those who live around the waters

seemed to believe and that underlining disquiet

it existed there beneath

a respect for what is part of their ancient folklore

that simmer’s all along the lakeshore!

 

They deeply feel this is not a mythical creature

and maybe is able to be camouflaged

observing man fearful of his ominous presence

or is there a magical reality here

they watch waiting with cameras peering eyes

endlessly from dusk to sunrise!

 

Has somebody caught sight and their claim denied

without doubt not wrongly identified!

Lake!

Upon the lake the water swirled

as being drained away

on the shore two anglers stood

patiently casting lines

a huge ripple became a shower

making the men cower!

 

Knocked off their feet as it fell

cascading down like rain

the tranquil lake had erupted

startled they laid

for seconds both were dazed

with the event fazed!

 

Shaken got up and witnessed

a luminous procession

of  beings gliding over water

from a disk hovering

no sound a ghostly apparition

focused on a mission!

 

Or so it was how they described

leaving their gear

running away that chilly night

others reported it to

that baffling unexpected sight

emitting a spectral light!

 

Into the surrounding tree line

the images vanished

so did the craft had it returned

to a murky lake bed

or just a memory from history

was the nagging mystery!

 

Many brave or foolish searched

through following days

yet no evidence could be found

above or below the lake

raised radiation levels detected

the whole area infected!

 

Too many questions unanswered

without real proof

but this was only the beginning

of the phenomenon

as the investigations continued

for proof they pursued!

 

Unexplained phenomena emerged

on the area converged!

The Well!

The happy family moved into the large house

on the edge of a lake

all were unaware until their teenage children

found a hidden overgrown well

first from a distance noticed the outline

at that time not able to define!

 

Behind tall weeds concealed was discovered

the relic emitting a sentient power

both felt it had to walk from the dire location

were afraid to tell their parents

of this startling undiscovered garden addition

that seemed in perfect condition!

 

For a while was forgotten as the house was fixed

to decorate and make theirs

being uninhabited for years before they found it

on a holiday the place a dream

with its supreme views and large lake location

space and liberation a great combination!

 

Nothing happened for some time life was good

they kept their distance

until the daughter saw lights darting about

flickering in a pattern

resisting the urge to go near just observed

yet her confidence unnerved!

 

Over the next few days the lights increased

as nobody else noticed them

began to feel it was only meant for her gaze

and a compulsion to explore

in her dressing gown on a bitterly cold night

went to peek like a ghost in white!

 

She was sleep walking in her mind could see

a girl waving so excitedly

a nice day she just wanted to meet and play

greeting as though friends

in reality nobody visible there she was alone

unprotected in a disaster zone!

 

The young girl’s face changed to sallow skin

dead eyes stared a victoria’s cry

the teenager awoke her soul fell into the well

her being sank into the dank water

gone now suppressed by the slimy green walls

nobody heard her Spiritual calls!

 

A different young woman went back inside

but to the family within

it was their beloved sister and daughter

the evil entity was reborn

new energy rejuvenating the decayed shell

the lid sealed the well!
