Shivering!

They sat shivering in the basement flat

damp and mould covered the walls

mum held her two children very tightly

trying to keep them warm and dry

no comforts her benefits had been cut

any family to her the door was shut!

Left home at fifteen fell for an older man

who showed kindness in the beginning

gave her a child then became ill and died

was just sixteen and for her he cared

his family rejected them to just as her own

on the streets with a baby all alone!

Found herself now poorly treated abused

soon realised she was pregnant again

roamed the streets until she found help

a charity cared for them until the baby

was a few months old but funds were short

the council’s assistance urgently sought!

Desperate feeling suicidal told had to wait

funding taken away for now try a friend

ended up here in the wretched filthy squat

cowering going rapidly out of her mind

drug users satisfied their addiction close by

drunks used it as a toilet so wanted to cry!

Within her had a tough will could not give up

had two babies to think about now

only had each other determined from then on

to make a better life for the three

came up from the depths of despair with hope

knew from then on could cope!

In the bright lights of London a family observed

a young woman frail yet was still smiling

never giving up there must be kindness around

they came over offering them support

in a culture of destitution and the welfare system

decimated had lost its humanity rhythm!

Months really seemed like years she wondered

in her own warm clean room

children safe both serene unaware of the plight

a short time ago found themselves in

how many there were not so fortunate still living

amongst those who were unforgiving!

Touch

That touch of your soft skin as we embraced

was a sensation I had forgot

the connection of care and warmth thrilling

within my being fulfilling

it was a shock to realise I had become distant

my anger so consistent.

My relationships had always been a disaster

an emptiness had persisted

physically abused left to suffer on my own

hostility surrounded me

feeling worthless I soon lost all self-respect

believing I was a  reject!

Knowing that my body was what they wanted

no kindness or love given

until that chance meeting as I contemplated

thinking of my desperation

you were the good Samaritan showed the way

saw me as a person not prey!

Your touch and gentle words gave me hope

to start again able to cope.

That Glance

That glance he had not seen for so long

it was rather good

foolish he thought smiling his face red

that a young woman

could make him feel being wanted again

yet knew had to refrain.

It was only kindness and a polite gesture

this was his way

of combating the loneliness that filled him

simple interaction

gave hope to boost that emptiness inside

he still had pride.

That glance a smile that moment remained

within his memory

no unkind or lustful thoughts but well-being

he could interact

maybe one day he would find a special friend

his loneliness to end!

Cold Winters Night!

On that cold winters night heavy snow fell

the couple headed to see family

but work had delayed the departure time

now they panicked as it was late

weather conditions added to their distress

it had become a complete mess!

At first good progress was made on the trip

but soon the snow began to lay

a biting wind made it drift onto the roads

being moorland no protection

on the slippery surface went into a skid

all signs from view were hid!

Abandoning the car as it would not start

to hopefully summon help

no mobile phone signals available there

they started to walk back

hoping there would be a house close by

nothing else to do but try!

Within a few minutes they saw lights ahead

puzzled never noticed them

when a short while ago had driven passed

soon knocking on the door

now very cold and their clothes very wet

with a pleasant smile were met.

Welcomed in by a middle-aged woman entered

into a warm cosy house.

Where they were offered food and hot drinks

and offered accommodation

if they wanted to stay until the following day

she did not want them to pay.

Concerned their parents would now be worried

enquired if she had a phone

telling them she had not got one of the gadgets

reluctantly this had to accept

so settling down until the early morning light

waking seeing it was bright.

Thanking the lady for her kindness decided go

making their way to the car

where to their surprise a van had just stopped

the driver got them on the move

contacted their family as it was Christmas day

they got to them another way.

Later during the after dinner gathering mentioned

the kind lady who let them stay

But the girl’s mother knew the area on the moors

surprised told the startled couple

there was only an abandoned derelict building

anybody being there knew nothing!

So who had the couple stayed with the night before?

Looking Down!

Looking down at my young clear skin

full of energy and hope

innocent not seeing any fear around

a life time ahead of me

then no internet nor mobile phones

robots and human clones!

Less complicated not the pressures

vinyl records and cassettes

shops closed Sundays families spoke

safe for children outside

being able to grow in natural stages

not endless exam pages!

Today I look down at my ageing skin

struggling to keep warm

nobody calls or ever bothers to visit

harder to pay rising bills

families split lacking close support

respect no longer taught!

The elderly are considered a burden

in this faltering society

where corruption affects everybody

greed no compassion

services shut for lack of funds its said

on egg shells we do tread`!

Life may have been hard but people cared

kindness and help freely shared!

The Foureyed Poet.

kindness A Simple Word!

Is kindness such a very hard act to perform

it only takes a smile or a little respect

open a door maybe carry some shopping

not too much to ask of others surely not

helping somebody hurt or in trouble

they are not asking you for any money

selflessly wanting to give not take away

a simple word that is forgotten today!

Showing mercy a moment of human tenderness

not this nasty attitude of could not careless

to show somebody compassion may take courage

to overcome the trend for increasing rage!

Kindness is but a simple word but

will those cries for help be heard?
