Free!

Within the once vast and open wilderness

where wild animals were free

passing their lives without intervention

from hunters and seekers of land

killing the prey for their breeds survival

fearing no human arrival!

 

No more their security and safety assured

as the numbers rapidly dwindle

some becoming extinct as the killing excels

left to die in agony and pain alone

poachers only interest the profits they make

not the misery they create!

 

The rich and ruthless have no mercy to give

for any destruction of animal life

nor the ever advancing human colonisation

and their shrinking habitation

creatures who should live and be protected

by many their rights not respected!

 

Man thinks on earth he is the superior being

not caring species are rapidly disappearing!

Stone Slab

There the large stone slab does stand

reading Lydiard Fields.

Where once the land was undisturbed

for centuries nature lived.

Unsullied all living things there thrived

without threat strived.

 

Now all that remains of what had been

as every trace of natures gifts.

Were torn apart by human intervention

no conscience or care!

Heavy machinery brought in to clear

trees and grass disappear!

 

Natural beauty and elements obliterated

man’s imprint firmly showing.

Changing the landscape with structures

that deface and spoil the view.

Species  lost for our future generations

with these digressing alterations!

 

The once country setting has long gone

replaced by a hotel and units.

That avenue of trees and open meadows

a mere distant memory.

Token vegetation is  now sparsely planted

to late for decisions to be recanted!

 

These ugly monuments surrounding our vision

will forever cause division!
