Stalled!

The old car his pride and joy was running well

early summer decided to take a trip

into the countryside to a nearby historic town

it stalled outside an empty building

unable to get it running decided to take a tour

of this place wanted to know more.

The car had overheated it had happened before

and somehow felt compelled to walk

as if guided down a pathway to a large garden

the rear of the large house

where he had parked then entered the gate

not for a moment did he hesitate!

For some reason the house seemed so familiar

and at the window a woman waved

then as he neared the glass doors opened wide

and she came out to greet him

soon was in her arms then went happily inside

but why became mystified?

The smell of perfume soft sweet intoxicating

it did not feel like his own life

but captured in a long passed scene replaying

yet the passion and love real

suddenly everything changed to a deep sadness

the house now a total mess!

Another vision saw the lady hanging from a beam

taking her down and holding

the limp body he gently held within his arms tight

tears he shed pain so deep

darkness filled his mind finding himself all alone

on the grass outside prone!

Nobody was anywhere in sight now on his feet

made the return walk to his car

that dizziness soon cleared sat back in the seat

put the key in the ignition

started first turn had to take another glance

had he relieved a lost romance?

From the window she watched him go!

Never!

Never being on time getting up ever later

the excuse today to cold

eventually his partner placed cold feet

on his back he soon got up

realising it was later now he had to rush

leaving the house in a hush.

Forgot to put the car in the large garage

was covered in a thick frost

swearing under his breath it was his fault

now he was definitely late

turning the ignition key it would not start

then an explosion blew it apart!

From her slumber the wife abruptly roused

into a nightmare of reality

glass flying across the large front bedroom

their two children crying

not understanding what caused the havoc

sadly there was no turning back!

Struggling to stand her feet cut and bleeding

glanced out acrid smoke rose

she saw the flames and burning wrecked car

but had to be with the children

holding back the tears she knew he was dead

glanced at the double bed!

In their room the children cowered bewildered

running up to their mother

almost knocking her to the ground gripping tight

there they stayed for some time

then the expected knock on the door she knew

for Josh nothing could they do!

Her husband had been a soldier only a year before

the army and civilian police

were investigating who could have been involved

but their lives had to continue

they could not stay in that house not safe any more

the memories forever raw!
