Bugs?

As the car passed the historic building

surrounded by scaffolding

the driver was certain something huge

hovered amidst the structure

an orange glow from the street lights

formed an eerie pattern

that resembled a giant spider outline

its tentacles the poles did entwine!

 

Mesmerized hit a stationary parked car

air bags inflated felt the jolt

shaken they got out fearful of sighting

nobody seemed to be around

the three stood huddled then a clatter

as scaffolding began to fall

a shape dropped to the street close by

on instinct would have to rely!

 

Decided to exit certain the area was unsafe

whatever the object seen

knew it was an imminent danger to them

through an alley they ran

hopefully were making their way to safety

but came upon devastation

another arachnid scaled down a stone wall

making them feel significantly small!

 

Below a large crowd of revelers were dancing

before they could give a warning

it was upon them and many were devoured

from behind heard anguished cries

where had these things come from evaluated

as high above the sky lit up

filled with a flaming roaring meteor shower

they diverted into the high office tower!

 

Out of breath reached the top of the block

forcing open the fire escape

scrambled onto the flat roof nowhere to go

a panoramic view of the chaos

the sky was alight and fire rose from below

they witnessed the coming

of intelligent bugs swarming as fighter jets

for them no time for regrets!

 

Approaching them on the roof a huge bug

swiftly followed by missiles

the building exploded catapulting the three

into free fall this was their end

inexplicably there was a canal down below

and though from a great height

survived the hard impact hitting mud bank

then all just went blank!

 

Awoke freezing and dazed as the action raged

soldiers were around them

soon they were found and taken to a safe area

where some tale was conveyed

told the population could only be protected

if they remained in chosen districts

as authorities pursued ways of eradicating

an enemy to humans devastating!

 

It would be a long time before the people knew

the real truth of the invaders

as what is visible to our senses and is so real

the facts from us all they did conceal!

Hot!

With the hot weather sapping their strength

the group of teenage friends

found a spot along the fast flowing river

where a natural pool was formed

to cool themselves from blistering heat

that also burnt their naked feet!

 

This was an unfamiliar spot along the bank

the fives senses became aware

of the sudden ripples in the still clear water

and how it became so quiet

as if danger was very close to their position

to each other confirmed suspicion!

 

Without warning the huge shape sprang out

from the pool screeching

grabbing by his leg the youngest teen Al

who was instantly swallowed

instinct made them blindly panic and scatter

there was no time for idle chatter!

 

As they tripped getting caught in undergrowth

weird sounds now ever closer

there was nowhere to hide from this thing

that resembled a huge snake

soon exhausted afraid to call to each other

desperately trying to find safe cover!

 

The weather had changed now heavy rain fell

scared to breath or even twitch

ground and vegetation seemed to shudder

alone yet were almost touching

knowing death was slowly slithering their way

sinking in the sodden clay!

 

Coming close zigzagging between their bodies

its slimy body even touching

over the legs of one of the girls who screamed

unable to stifle her pain

she to would soon have been the next fatality

in this nightmare of irrationality!

 

Saying their last departing prays men’s voices

were heard shouting then gun fire

the creature retreated but did not get far

suddenly turning to strike

an explosion tore it apart spraying everyone

in yellow goo at last it was done!

 

Convenient a military patrol was close by!

The Sun!

The sun disappeared from our site that day

objects had been reported

over every country creating mega shadows

on a scale never before seen

for some weeks temporally masking its rays

turning day into a permanent night

as the people feared the awaited elimination

of its said God’s own creation!

 

But for a while the skies cleared as we watched

confused at the true nature

of the objects that added to the odd formations

that filled the once virgin skies

everybody expected the earth to finally crumble

but there was an uneasy quell

with endless instability of wars and darkness

where evil ruled gone was holiness!

 

Then the overdue eruption of the huge volcano

that lay below the country park

sent clouds of ash and debris into the atmosphere

the endless night became reality

the slow deterioration of civilisation began to bite

the rich lived deep underground

on the surface the dwindling population struggled

their minds with pollution muddled!

 

Yet we knew there were unseen creatures here

as if the environment had been altered

for another race as we choked rapidly depleting

monsters were taking our young

as we now feared demons were not mythological

and our once beautiful mother earth

had become a true hell nothing good survived

humanity of innocents and love deprived!

Hand In Hand!

Held hands bewildered at what surrounded them

shocked covered in thick dust

could only hold on to each other both survived

the huge blast that killed so many

children that did not understand such carnage

or how adults had such rage!

 

In their short lives had only ever known destruction

warfare that took families forever

born into the putrid odours of death cries of anguish

that never ending wail of mourning

funerals and standing by grave sides of  loved ones

and choking smoke filling their lungs!

 

Now they were alone their home and parents murdered

as a missile struck their only sanctuary

while both outside the explosion shattered many lives

parents and grandparents a brother to

lost evermorer being so young just could not understand

as together stood hand in hand!

Hunted!

The vast forest-covered the valley and mountain

a fast flowing river completed the scene

of an unspoilt wilderness untouched by man

until a logging company set up camp

given permission to remove thousands of trees

conservationists this did not please!

 

On the other side of the forest range nestled

a township peaceful and law-abiding

prepared for the approaching snow storms

as the first winds began to blow

they were not prepared for what was to come

or terror to which they would succumb!

 

Back in the logging camp it was suddenly still

as the crew lay mutilated and dead

no longer noise of the chain saws and banter

the perpetrators had long gone

leaving behind the carnage of a savage kill

no sound even the air deathly still!

 

The townsfolk woke to several feet of snow

covering the once naked streets

but this was just the normal no surprise

but the strange large marks

cloven hoofprints in fresh snow were new

that’s when their fear grew!

 

The sheriff noticed them near his window

thinking it must be a hoax

they continued into the trees some distance

following them for a while

was totally surprised they suddenly stopped

in amazement his jaw dropped!

 

Blood was smeared over the trunk of a tree

deep long gauges in the bark

made it more of a scene he should leave now

radioed his deputy to meet him

he being certain it was a more disturbing event

with a real menacing intent!

 

Soon a report of a prized horse gone missing

and the sudden exit of all creatures

fleeing so frightened from an unseen danger

raising the stakes and anticipation

of the population unaware of what was near

but soon the answer would be here!

 

Patrolling the sheriff found a deer in the road

freshly killed and mauled

similar marks had already found heard a noise

just seconds being distracted

never saw anything looking back it had gone

something was seriously wrong!

 

That sickening feeling he was now being hunted

or very soon could be cornered

drove rapidly to town as another night neared

decided to suggest to the residents

to gather in the red brick town-hall for protection

receiving not a single rejection!

 

A hunter arrived to tell him a friend had been killed

found his body in the branches

shaken said could not have got there on his own

remembered ancient legends

of creatures that lived deep in the dense forest

this theory was a lot to digest!

 

An ancient native american sacred burial site

there had to be truth in the legends

gathered at the town hall steps heard sounds

deep angry sinister loud roars

townsfolk quickly ushered to the basement

the sheriff ready for engagement!

 

Two armed volunteer hunters joined the hunt

as they waited for an unseen foe

soon a huge dark object was on the attack

fast and agile they were the hunted

guns blazing in pitch black had to be alert

or be slaughtered or seriously hurt!

 

In an instant the sheriff was now confronted

with a mass heading his way

firing it knocked him to the floor lashing out

with huge claws and teeth gnashing

bullets at first never stopped the beasts charge

as more rapidly did discharge!

 

Just managed to grab his knife stabbed its head

this made it fall heavily backwards

now running away as the deputy came to help

but suddenly the beats jumped up

knocking him with force through a glass door

it left a trail of blood on the floor!

 

Injured both struggled to stand it had vanished

shaken waited for the daylight

a search was mounted but nothing ever found

today they live in a state of terror

knowing the beast was somewhere not dead

no idea of the future that lay ahead!

 

Deep in the vast forest the beasts waited

to terminate the humans they hated!

The Band!

Excitement was high as the growing audience

waited with anticipation

for the heavy metal band to come on stage

known for outrageous shows

and their interest in occult and devil worship

it would be the ultimate trip!

 

Ferocious Beast name of the six member band

came upon the large stage

with a crescendo of sound and flashing lights

through thick dried ice smoke

leather clad with black menacing face paint

starting without constraint!

 

Into their set the band pounded the loud music

soon the mesmerizing voice

of the bewitching lead singer reverberated out

everyone listening was hooked

as if hypnotised by the clear words and tone

for them the seed was sown!

 

Huge speakers broadcast every syllable and notes

to the audiences willing ears

demonic images flashed onto viewing screens

at a pulsating high-definition pace

as cowled figures mingled amongst the throng

the intensity became strong!

 

Into the night the passion excelled to fever pitch

physically and mentally exhausted

they collapsed as the band left the stage in triumph

their message had been delivered

bedded into memories of the fans and believers

who had been welcome receivers!

 

The band moved onto their next awaiting disciples!

Control Tower!

In the airport control tower was excitement

an emergency call had been received

putting them on alert watching radar screens

a pilot on another plane had reported

of an approaching aircraft without any lights

a hazard to other night flights!

 

No incoming traffic was expected that hour

but there was one taxiing

last for the night the mail plane running late

suddenly upon the radar

a blip came into view and descending to land

was there anyone to understand?

 

With no reply were the pilots still conscious

the grounded plane crew

were told to turn right onto a holding lane

as the unknown object

seemed to be coming down at a faster rate

not much time to contemplate!

 

Emergency tenders now lined the lit runway

adrenaline rush for the crews

waiting for the unknown craft to materialise

out of the dark empty skyline

no visible sighting or audible sound present

as time passed more intent!

 

It should have been overhead and descending

coming into final approach

but as the moon came from behind the clouds

a massive cylindrical shape

like a huge beast dwarfed those on the ground

to all staring did confound!

 

On into the distance at low altitude continued

jets were scrambled to pursue

having to abort mission when electronics failed

even at this point communications

for the area for two minutes was blacked out

of alien origin there was no doubt!

 

When power returned the radar was now blank

no traffic was flying in the air

it had gone any response was quashed or denied

emergency crews stood down

as only the public dared report the existence

authorities denial immense !

 

Another unidentified object sighting hushed up

even though filmed and seen

by many civilians military personnel and police

explained as a large transport plane

flying low with an electrical fault was off course

their story of course false!

 

But it was not the first passing over the area!

Dog Walk!

It was a pleasant sunny and warm sunday

the couple were out walking

on a trail with their two labrador puppies

who were a long way ahead

chatting happily hand in hand without care

the day together did share!

 

Neither noticing the tree foliage thickening

or that nobody had passed

it was their weekends that they enjoyed

only just moving to the village

no knowledge of this part of the rural wood

in which they now stood!

 

If  they had spoken to any local in the village

maybe a different route

might have been chosen for this rest day walk

a beast that roamed here

visitors had been found badly mutilated within

was another killing about to begin?

 

Of course there was no warning neither knew

first hint of any trouble

the barking stopped and yelp’s of pain and fear

came from their pets ahead

then no noise could be heard only rustling trees

from calmness to unease!

 

A strong urge to run but not without their dogs

in turmoil heard a bark

together headed towards the faint pitiful sound

approaching saw blood and fur

there one of the pups stood over the remains

itself covered in blood stains!

 

Hesitant to go near being an unexpected scene

shaken by the gruesome sight

the pet snarled as if daring them to come closer

movement surrounding them

certain in the shadows something was observing

the terror increasingly disturbing!

 

Slowly backing away from the agitated puppy

thinking was it really a killer

a presence then showed itself coming into view

from behind a rotting tree stump

a huge black cat appeared fiery red eyes stared

and fanged teeth bared!

 

Claws in the ground did plough lunging forward

snatched the small dog

throwing it to one side the woman screamed

as it was flight or die

without thought through undergrowth crashed

on a rock her head bashed!

 

Her husband struggling to pick up her still body

as he blindly tripped on

then saw the trail once more felt the breath

of the beast on his heels

exhausted rapid heart beat clothes and skin

ripped just had to win!

 

In sight the edge of the tree line was visible

adrenaline drove him ever on

but exhaustion overtook him he collapsed

on the ground they lay

like discarded rag dolls sprawled in the dirt

broken and seriously hurt!

 

Eventually would be found yet another chapter

in the woods rural legend

but there was no clues found a major factor

for cause of injury a story without end!

Deep Endless Rumble!

Usually it passes late at night high in the sky

a deep rumble draws near

once I saw this huge dark shape overhead

looming with two red lights

like the eyes of a devil from above peering

upon those below leering!

 

Vibration created making the house shake

deep and ominous to those below

that same noise I have heard many times

an enigma of unknown origin

makes me wonder what in the heavens fly

that the authorities always deny!

 

From other areas and from around the globe

many have listened as well

but not seeing anything only the prolonged

disturbing unforgettable roar

that you could never put out of your mind

is it of man or yet undefined?

 

It crescendos steadily raising consternation

leaving you so uncertain

that it maybe much more than a scary noise

helpless you stare upwards

into that vast expanse really wanting to know

what horrors on us could fate throw?

Power!

Above our heads and below our feet

electricity surges onward

power lines linked like huge arteries

giving life to a rising public

increasing demand for easy existence

could end without resistance!

 

Man never stable nor servile creatures

always wanting to dominate

all other species living on this planet

like gods in his approach

not respecting earth his only base

as more dangers we face!

 

Continuous conflicts and power struggles

drastically divides rich and poor

greed tribal violence and sectarian hate

that power starts to falter

resources are dwindling as the need rises

a future filled with bad surprises!
