Simply!

The bottle simply fell off the high shelf

as the barmaid poured a drink

this was in the lounge bar of a hotel

grade one listed building

with a history of phenomena reported

and stories of love thwarted!

Much had been proved to be natural

sounds created by the wood

creaking expanding and contracting

drafts from old windows

letting cold air chill the weary visitor

who had not been here before!

To those staff who had been here awhile

they had got more use to it

though parts of the hotel were off limit

they were scared to enter

shadows and sensations of dread within

tested their professional discipline!

An ancient coaching inn with a dark past

extended over the centuries

main route to London saw highwaymen

regularly robbing stage coaches

villains often hanged passengers killed

to those near the bones it chilled!

Items thrown or going missing routine

but the recording was proof

an entity roamed the bars and corridors

blurry but it looked like a female

in flowing dress came into view gliding

for them the proof providing!

Also seen in the upper bedrooms area

others had said they had seen

bodies hanging from a gnarled oak tree

in the cobbled courtyard

so many hidden secrets still to be told

gruesome terrors to behold!

The inn drew the curios and series investigator

amateur and professional facilitator!

Haunted Liner!

No longer at sea the ship was permanently docked

as a hotel and tourist attraction

a magnificent liner with a long and dark history

where many had perished

within the many decks what stories could it tell

what evil here does dwell?

Today still most famous for its ghosts onboard

that have been seen and felt

now trapped within this huge aging metal hull

reliving their deaths repeatedly

in the first class pool it is said a child walks

and often to visitors talks!

Even small footprints it is said have been seen

and a small shape like a child

yet there are growing opinions this is not so

but a more sinister evil entity

masquerading as another being upon the liner

the unsuspecting think its a minor!

Deep down in the engine room of endless steel

two men were crushed to death

in a water tight door squeezing their live away

an adult shadow witnessed

an anguished male voice cries of pain pleading

a cold tense feeling proceeding!

In the second class swimming pools a child its said

did actually drown there

often seen and voice heard holding a teddy bear

bangs and screams common

ladies in long ball gowns who never seem to leave

if this you really believe!

It was a troop ship during the second world war

painted grey the elegant’s gone

name given was the grey ghost during that time

survived a collision many perished

there is proof of forty-nine lives known to be lost

a spirit you may well come across!

It’s very popular with paranormal investigators

is this the most haunted place for tours?

Now this ship I would love to visit!

Tight Grip!

Entering a busy hotel the man was surprised

from his wife’s hand pulled apart

finding himself in a side room pushed in a crush

wondering where his she had gone

suddenly felt like a cold hand tight did grip

the shock made him bite his lip!

As he quivered afraid to move his spouse entered

seeing him with a gripped fist

as she approached shaken he gave her a loving hug

telling of his unexpected experience

giving a patronizing smile she gave him a kiss

this rare moment could not resist.

Unknown to them the hotel had a ghostly reputation

having many ghostly guests in situ

but it was meant to be a weekend break together

no thought then of any apparitions

but his enthusiasm had waned with the experience

not thinking it was nonsense!

After changing in their room with a four-poster bed

not noticing items falling on the floor

went down for a candle lit dinner in the oak panelled

dinning room with antiques on the wall

here the waitress enlightened them on the pubs past

and the couple were aghast!

After a lot of wine plucked up the courage to return

it seemed to the most haunted room

with more confidence and rather drunk fell asleep

around two he was rudely awoken

as the television roared out of bed hubby did roll

his wife his pain did not console!

She sat up to drunk to care laughed at his misfortune

unaware of a shadowy shape close by

but he had seen it and was sobering up at the sight

realising the room was quiet again

confused at the sudden activity trying to tell his wife

with this moment filled with strife!

Soon his beloved was shaken awake from any slumber

as the bed started to vibrate

even lifting off the thick patterned bedroom carpet

in a state of disbelief screamed

as it started it was once more at rest dressing decided

they would find another hotel instead!

Gathering their belonging got out of there post-haste

the night receptionist looked concerned

trying hard to hide a very amused disinterested face

she had seen it many times before

and arranged other accommodation for those scared

who here to stay longer were not prepared!

With a sigh of relief the couple left the haunted hotel!

Encounter!

On his way to meet friends at a hotel

set in a valley amongst trees

the journey took him on lonely roads

untouched and unspoilt

elements of magic and ancient legends

around the dips and bends!

Now dusk wished he was not on his own

eyes tiring in the gloom

hindered by a thickening mist in the valley

the radio crackled annoyingly

ahead saw somebody walking in the road

at a good pace they strode!

Approaching seemed to walk into his path

yet no sound of impact felt

even driving slow could not avoid a collision

coming to an emergency stop

concerned had to reverse back to be sure

frantically had to explore!

Hesitantly got out into the swirling moist mist

glad he brought the torch

searched in a frenzied manner a long stretch

of  road and grass verge

nothing was there no body of man or beast

then all rationality ceased!

Petrified to be there what had he really seen

heard a noise what was around

quickly got in the car accelerating forward

not caring visibility was poor

until his speed made him swerve just missing

the car a tree nearly kissing!

Inches from its base halted spooked drove on

the faint lights of the hotel

came into a weary man’s gaze a relieved sigh

the entrance was approaching

parking headed to meet the others inside

fearful with them had to confide!

Certain the encounter was real not a memory

maybe a prowling spectre

though an unknown element was with him

had a perception it had come

his skin began to crawl feeling sick and cold

for them all the horror would unfold!

The mist thickened around the hotel as they came!

Watching The Screens!

This was an experience for the young man

excited at watching the screens.

A security officer in the prestigious hotel

first night without supervision.

Working the grave yard shift was daunting

knowing it had a famous haunting!

A lot on his mind with forty monitors to scan

covering every single floor.

Where it’s said ghostly shadows there roamed

guests leaving never to return!

He didn’t believe it being more of a sceptic

surely had to be a trick.

As the three other guards on duty patrolled

he sat eyeing each screen.

Making sure all was well and no intruders

throughout the complex.

On level twenty-nine the screens went blank

his confidence now sank.

Concerned that he had caused the malfunction

maybe flicking the wrong switch.

At that point received an urgent radio call

as the picture came back on.

The patrol had heard voices on an unused floor

wanting him to check for more.

Checking the monitor within the target zone

saw a blur near room 301.

As they approached saw a shape walk by

and an argument from inside.

Using an override card against policy went in

with an intent a search to begin.

Quickly radioed back and ran back into the hall

the room had been trashed.

Nobody had entered since it had been cleaned

this made then uneasy.

This was the actual room of a shocking crime

not solved until this time!

Reviewing and slowing down the recorded disk

a woman in a long white gown.

Is seen leaving walking through the suite door

a long bladed knife in her hand!

Before fading turned and at the lens was staring

back at them and glaring!

As they gathered tensely in the office talking

in the corridor heard sounds of walking!

When the day shift entered at seven a m

finding their colleagues stabbed!

On checking the security disk it was clear

the spectre had come back here!

The Skull!

The artist had come to this ancient town

as his passion was architecture.

Knowing his best work was  not yet  done

he booked into the only hotel.

On a night that had turned chilly and wet

an ancient evil waited to be met!

Not able to arrive until the bewitching hour

was unable to settle and sleep.

Thought he’d take that late night wander

in a thickening low mist.

Made his progress slow on unfamiliar ground

with tired feet did pound!

Even the orange street lights seemed so dim

and was chokingly thick!

Each step now becoming increasingly hard

a shop drew his attention.

felt compelled to peer in at the display

unable to turn away!

There in the only lit shop window on the row

his gaze was transfixed.

On the skull almost hidden in one corner

in the eye sockets shiny stones.

That glistened nothing he could do but stare

now gasping for fresh air!

He staggered a short distance to a doorway

slipping into unconsciousness!

Waking cold and disorientated by the noise

of an ambulance siren.

Nobody else was about as he headed back

giving the glass a hard smack!

Shattering the glass with a hidden strength

grabbing the skull now possessed!

Cutting his hands on the shards he ran

leaving a trail of his blood!

Back in the room fell onto the clean bed

the artist was now dead!

What emerged from within a few hours later

was not who entered!

The figure with cold dark eyes and sallow skin

checked out without a word.

Now the ancient evil had found a new host

civilisation would roast!

The prophecies of doom would come to pass!

That Moment!

That moment two years ago I’ll never forget

the day we first met.

Now you’re Always On My Mind

so truly special and kind.

I can’t wait to be here with you again

in my heart you remain.

How I remember the first time in the hotel

there I first saw you dance so well.

To everyone you’re so kind and sincere

with you I so want to be near.

Every moment that we’re this distant apart

sadness fills my lonely heart!

From different parts of this shrinking earth

you fill my whole being with mirth.

When I’m with you it’s such an amazing life

where there’s joy without strife.

We shall be together This I promise You

in our home where nothings blue.

Love has overwhelmed both our souls!

there can be only you!

The Hotel

It was very late and the businessman had to rest

a hotel came into sight.

Good he thought pulling into the empty car park

taking his overnight bag.

Walking the short way to reception he entered in

a man stood with a grin!

For some inexplicable reason it made him wary

signing in taking the key.

An odd place he decided with nobody else about

but tired just wanted to rest.

The room was clean laying down was soon asleep

for him the slumber was deep!

Something aroused him opening his weary eyes

a figure stood at the end of the bed.

Staring dressed in a military type of uniform

sitting up it had gone!

The room to him had become so very cold

tired back on his side he rolled.

A few hours later again awoke felt a sharp prod

then pushed onto the floor!

Standing up nothing could be seen in the room

but his face was very sore.

In the mirror saw deep scratches on his cheek

had to get out safety to seek!

Had to take the stairs he ran not glancing back

quickly in his car he sped off!

The following day he had a clients meeting

mentioning his nightmare stay!

They looked perplexed at what had occurred

of this place they’d never heard!

Puzzled at the comment he had to make sure

it was hard retracing his steps.

But at last was certain this was the route taken

yet he could only see open fields!

No indication anything had ever been built there

it was real on a bible he’d swear!

He knew it could not be left there needing an answer!
