Shabby and Grey!

The hospital dated back to the Victorian era

now it looked shabby and grey

threatened many times with closing down

reduced to a minor injury unit

doors always locked soon after night fell

some thought a portal of hell!

Also notorious for the delivery of corpses

who had untimely deaths

in the eighteenth century there was a need

by surgeons bodies sought

prepared to pay cash without any question

by the so-called medical profession!

Certainly had an unwelcoming appearance

dark eerie long passages

to walk along lit spots never to go near

staff had rooms to avoid

where unexplained phenomena took place

and nobody wanted to retrace!

Patients were reluctant to go there or stay

being dark and oppressive

scared behind the curtains a monster hid

freezing made your skin crawl

a woman trapped one night found it true

all about this she knew!

Arrived just before dark shown to a cubicle

waited but nobody came

situated down a narrow corridor worried

when into darkness plunged

the curtain shook could feel it swish near

a touch and whisper did hear!

Got up quickly disadvantaged not able to see

who was there called out

no reply her eyes grew accustomed to the dark

pulling curtain right back

could see nobody touching the peeling wall

moved trying not to fall!

Just able to make out the shape of an exit door

tried hard not to panic

from behind a bang her heart missed a beat

as the amplified sound

vibrated through the air felt cold on her hand

as an object beside did land!

Losing her balance falling over a row of chairs

but staying on her feet

certain somebody was standing very close by

reaching for the handle

just as a streak of light passed by her head

from pale white to red!

Pushing the door ran through to afraid to look

now stood in the reception area

with nobody to be seen began hyperventilating

headed for the main exit

as another object thrown bounced on the floor

saw a mass towards her crawl!

The following day in natural light staff arrived

finding the woman sitting

against a glass panel mumbling her eyes wide

as if seeing some hideous sight

had to be restrained taken into psychiatric care

of her plight only too aware!

Morgue!

It seemed an inexplicable place even for the dead!

Grave yard shift was never the favourite to get

even to the senior technician

he could easily recall many strange events

but on this particular shift

it would change his conception of reality

that none could foresee!

The only morgue in the small state county

based in the town hospital

always busy yet this night unusually quiet

then a telephone message

telling them a corpse was to be delivered

for some reason both shivered!

Just two on duty upon this dreaded shift

and five silent guests

one lay under a white sheet for an autopsy

early the coming morn

the new arrival would upset the ambience

the pressure becoming intense!

Around mid night the swing doors burst open

their new guest wheeled in

quickly placed in the allotted storage fridge

awaiting the duty pathologist

no details given even the paper work lacking

unanswered questions stacking!

That oppressive awareness began to mutate

retreating to the rest room

for a well-earned break at the mid night hour

soon a tapping sound heard

reverberating like a drum through corridors

their conversation on pause!

It stopped for a while then started once more

like a fist knocking on a door

reluctantly decided to investigate the source

as the noise wearily persisted

both re-entered the dimly lit autopsy room

they glared into the gloom!

Just as it went quiet again standing shaking

nothing looked disturbed

relieved turned there was a very loud bang

ran to the doorway before

daring to see it was the fridge open wide

the one with the body inside!

Neither of them wanting to move nearer

but were curious to view

even in the blue-tinted night lighting

could see the tray empty

on the tiled floor the abandoned body bag

along with the name tag!

Where had it gone more knocking began

it was definitely in front

uncertain of what was actually happening

headed for the only exit

could not escape their door passes failed

within their work place jailed!

Plunged into darkness something approached

as the emergency lighting

came on they were confronted by a woman

in her chest a gaping wound

how could she be alive the last words expelled

as to the ground were felled!

One managed badly wounded to crawl away

hitting the fire alarm button

waking in the casualty unit shaken in pain

but certain he was still alive

chaos surrounded him and he knew why

the thing that could not die!

It had escaped what had been unleashed on society

He suddenly began to feel unwell!

No Choice!

Having to find somewhere wasn’t easy

eventually a house came up.

First time I saw it had an eerie feeling

without another option took it.

With a choice I wouldn’t have moved in

as soon troubles would begin!

For some reason I couldn’t get enthusiastic

taking some time to get the stuff in.

My girlfriend came to her brother helped us

even loaning his van.

An old house but in a good state of repair

something wasn’t right there!

It was a quite small big enough for us two

in our bedroom was a big closet.

Every night the door just swung open

it felt like eyes watching you!

If you tried to sleep whispering in your ear

shadowy figures seemed to appear!

Escalating to heavy pressure on your chest

my partner woke choking.

Like hands tightening around her throat

we slept no more that night.

An atmosphere grew neither could define

our relationship began to decline!

It was though our humanity was being drained

evil thoughts entered my mind.

Towards the woman I loved happily so long

she became terrified of me!

But when I physically attacked and hurt her

all reality became a blur!

When the police came to arrest me for assault

was the route to my escape!

As it was concluded I was mentally unstable

and ended up in mental hospital.

While in there I met an interesting old guy

said he didn’t have long to die!

Knew all about the house I’d not long purchased

admitting he’d lived there.

Many years ago and was driven to murder

and it was his malevolent spirit.

That still  existed in the fabric of that place

evil showed in his gnarled face!

Whether it was true I couldn’t really be sure

but everybody loathed him there.

Soon afterwards passed on and I didn’t mourn

my girlfriend soon got better.

And I was then released and officially sane

but answers still remain!

Never returned to that strange house or area

lost on the whole deal.

Got our relationship back to how it was before

heard the house was destroyed.

Bodies were found in the buildings rubble

leaking gas caused the trouble!

I guess the old man was not so mad!

Hospital Haunted?

How could a brand new hospital be haunted

read the papers headlines.

As more stories were being reported

staff opinions were split.

Everybody felt the tense atmosphere

this was certainly clear!

Certain corridors and rooms were off limit

to a lot of nervous staff.

Sceptics amongst them said it was natural

building settling trick of light.

On the wards nurses saw patients who’d died

explanations to them defied!

Lights of many colours in the operating theatres

scared staff saw it hover!

As it then faded into the darkness to nothing

others heard voices in the silence.

And in all those theatres closed for the night

this was not an expected sight!

The large hospital was built on a green field site

nearby was a Roman road.

In the kitchens a Roman soldier has been seen

during early and late shifts.

Also a fridge door that opens and closes again

why no engineer can explain!

I wonder what else does occur within this place

for an investigation there must be a case!
