Awoke!

Shivering he awoke in a public park all alone

on a hard wooden bench

damp and chilled to the bone being so scared

odd sounds surrounded him

depressed at his situation got up and walked

paranoid his own shadow stalked!

So stupid leaving behind such a happy lifestyle

too much for the wife to take

turning to drink to get through every hour

his reality began to disintegrate

also had two sons that he loved so very much

could take no more missed their touch!

Guilty for getting in this awful humiliating mess

dirty unwashed shuffling along

contact totally lost with them it seemed endless

gambled away money job and respect

could not take the indignity or guilt another day

confused could not see any other way!

By his side a willing listener a comforting smile

yet to anybody passing was solo

even advising him the best position for the noose

some hours later he was found dead

hanging from a high branch in a wooded park

a dog stared up with its loud pitiful bark!

The man grinning watched in his dark suit

had another soul completed the pursuit!

Then evaporated into the damp morning air!

Simply!

The bottle simply fell off the high shelf

as the barmaid poured a drink

this was in the lounge bar of a hotel

grade one listed building

with a history of phenomena reported

and stories of love thwarted!

Much had been proved to be natural

sounds created by the wood

creaking expanding and contracting

drafts from old windows

letting cold air chill the weary visitor

who had not been here before!

To those staff who had been here awhile

they had got more use to it

though parts of the hotel were off limit

they were scared to enter

shadows and sensations of dread within

tested their professional discipline!

An ancient coaching inn with a dark past

extended over the centuries

main route to London saw highwaymen

regularly robbing stage coaches

villains often hanged passengers killed

to those near the bones it chilled!

Items thrown or going missing routine

but the recording was proof

an entity roamed the bars and corridors

blurry but it looked like a female

in flowing dress came into view gliding

for them the proof providing!

Also seen in the upper bedrooms area

others had said they had seen

bodies hanging from a gnarled oak tree

in the cobbled courtyard

so many hidden secrets still to be told

gruesome terrors to behold!

The inn drew the curios and series investigator

amateur and professional facilitator!

Aware!

An odd sensation was all she was aware

a pain and the darkness

awoke suddenly alone in her apartment

as if from a deep sleep

everything seemed exactly as before

yet different was so sure!

On the large settee she found herself laid

adjusting her blurred vision

her pet dog came to lick the hanging hand

but never felt the sensation

concerned sat up it was then she realised

life had been deprived!

Her body was on the settee white and still

yet she seemed so real

the dog slowly backed away as if in fear

her husband came in

from a night shift and to her side ran

a tired shattered man!

She had loved him now could not touch

only watch as he tried

to revive the woman he had just wed

phoning for an ambulance

in shock laid beside her loudly praying

their pet with a ball playing!

Paramedics came very quickly with aid

watching expecting the light

her husband holding their fluffy pet dog

hearing every word they said

both tried everything to start the heart

not wanting her forever to part!

Surely it was too late life had now passed

but a weird sensation

more pain a deep breath and a gentle kiss

a warm hand gentle breath

knowing she was back alive and not alone

really hearing his soft tone!

Upon a stretcher drips in arms on oxygen

heading to the medical centre

heard a voice an image of her dead father

faintly saying not your time

my precious child but I am always near

later was certain she did hear!

Eighteen months seemed to have flown by

their dreams had come true

back in hospital for birth of their child

the problems now melted away

happily over time her strength grew

incredibly life had begun anew!

Stalled!

The old car his pride and joy was running well

early summer decided to take a trip

into the countryside to a nearby historic town

it stalled outside an empty building

unable to get it running decided to take a tour

of this place wanted to know more.

The car had overheated it had happened before

and somehow felt compelled to walk

as if guided down a pathway to a large garden

the rear of the large house

where he had parked then entered the gate

not for a moment did he hesitate!

For some reason the house seemed so familiar

and at the window a woman waved

then as he neared the glass doors opened wide

and she came out to greet him

soon was in her arms then went happily inside

but why became mystified?

The smell of perfume soft sweet intoxicating

it did not feel like his own life

but captured in a long passed scene replaying

yet the passion and love real

suddenly everything changed to a deep sadness

the house now a total mess!

Another vision saw the lady hanging from a beam

taking her down and holding

the limp body he gently held within his arms tight

tears he shed pain so deep

darkness filled his mind finding himself all alone

on the grass outside prone!

Nobody was anywhere in sight now on his feet

made the return walk to his car

that dizziness soon cleared sat back in the seat

put the key in the ignition

started first turn had to take another glance

had he relieved a lost romance?

From the window she watched him go!

Internet Connection!

Thought it a must be a bad internet connection

maybe another dam virus

had expensive protecting software installed

surely this would remove the bug

the screen went blank then came back on

saw an image the face had gone!

Sat back shocked checking hers was still there

then went  snowy like a television

seen in many films when the signal is lost

neither could she turn it off

decided to let the battery go completely flat

hoping that would be that!

Unsettled went to bed but just could not rest

woken at two hearing voices

on her own got up slipping into fluffy slippers

in the semi darkness shuffled

from her bedroom into the small sitting room

almost expecting a person to loom!

At first nothing standing listening in the dead air

then what sounded like gnawing

dismayed thinking it could be mice or huge rats

noticed the screen still flickering

drawn back to it a hazy picture was detectable

and there was a man definable!

Was this her imagination in these early hours

noise from behind rapidly grew

and certain the figure was becoming larger

what at this second could she do

a deep breath forcing herself to turn and run

when she found herself being spun!

Trying to scream her cords seemed paralysed

now an awful odour of decay

made her wretch as before her a monster stood

hanging flesh and long nails

of his hands grasped her arms so painfully tight

increased the finality of her plight!

Around her feet a mass rubbed against bare legs

now his grotesque face came close

even more excruciating pain her body succumbed

as the lifeblood was drained

the beast vaporized back into the small screen

nothing any more to be seen!

The computer switched off and only death was left!

New Beginning!

For the parents and five girls of varying ages

this was the chance for a new start

in a different location far away from the city

where their eldest had problems

claiming the house was haunted by a spirit

so would not stay within it!

Managed to get into trouble and arrested

eventually having a breakdown

at seventeen needed psychiatric support

ending in a mental asylum

realised their daughter would not return

having little money a concern!

There was no choice when their youngest saw

unseen by them girls running around

and a woman in her room standing screaming

the decision was made to leave

having one disturbed girl was enough not two

nothing else they could do

On the internet this house seemed to appeal

cheap needing some work

a bargain not to be missed the family agreed

mum and dad looked alone

with no choice this was all they could afford

nothing wrong the agent assured!

Their new home was a long way from the last

and the light was fading on arrival

it took some time to pick their eldest child up

from the hospital’s psychiatric wing

darkness had fallen when they entered within

unaware it was a house of sin!

Everybody was too tired to feel any concern

settling in the lounge together

sleeping bags their beds for this one night

though it was a restless sleep

not because of  it being a strange new dwelling

there were sounds like pitiful yelling!

Before dawn the eldest Rebecca was a awoken

by a whisper in her ear so clear

half asleep saw a girl of similar age stood there

thin and pale and beckoning

as if wanting her to follow but she tripped falling

yet still heard a voice calling!

The noise woke the family and the girl had gone

and now no pleading voice

said nothing in case it was assumed a relapse

she knew that it was a ghost

since she was very young she could see the dead

experts said she was mad instead!

Now Rebecca accepted it was a gift that felt a curse

the only other who understood

was her youngest sister Amy she to often saw them

said they were her imaginary friends

but the ones Rebecca saw were more malevolent

unable to rest because of their torment!

Thinking it had quietened down since being in care

was not happy to see them here

realising there was a danger but what was unclear

for the rest of the day brooded

except Amy nobody knew the house was harmful

possessed by a being nasty and cruel!

The area looked pleasant but evil still remained

she could see hanging women

on trees outside men dragging them from inside

by the evening she was scared

dad was starting a new job the very next day

knowing none of them should stay!

In their bedrooms saw the shadow beings moving

she had to get her siblings out

young Amy now held her hand tightly frightened

with the overwhelming presence

of violence at any possible moment she had to act

but had no idea about tact .

Her parents were use to her in uncontrollable rages

but now confident was in control

told Amy to wait outside she ran up the stairs

helping the other sisters down

then started screaming to get mum and dad riled

and out before they were all defiled!

Opening the door startled Rebecca they followed her

both being naturally concerned

rushing into the garden was surprised to see them all

at that moment there was a flash

just the two saw faces at the window then the blaze

the family stared helplessly in a daze!

But they were all alive! But was it over?

The Old Guest House!

The old guest house opened in the last century

having its share of tragedy.

A child died when wind blew down the chimney

causing flames from the fire .

Causing the presents she was opening ignite

for the family an awful sight!

At seven a young life lost but it didn’t end there

a depressed woman staying.

Was jilted by the man that she hoped to marry

committing suicide by hanging.

Here where misfortune had embedded in deep

where visitors found it hard to sleep!

Investigators spending time in this creepy building

being constructed of wood.

Picking up shadows and mists on their equipment

whispers and a child’s laugh.

Also the smell of smoke where there was no fire

and cold spots made it dire!

On the infra-red cameras they saw a small image

sounds of footsteps running.

In room nineteen a moving shadow in the corner

that seemed to be swinging!

An overwhelming sense of loneliness perceived

as if somebody had been aggrieved!

The old guest house holds these secrets to this day

bringing the curious and sceptical.

Into it’s web of sadness and forlorn depression

within the fabric of the interior!

Many have experiences others feel nothing at all

in which category would you fall?

The old guest stands in silence awaits the next visitor!

The Unknown Voice!

He sat bolt upright in bed what had he heard

looking at his wife asleep.

It couldn’t have been her voice it was male

there in the dark bedroom!

Having to admit to himself he was fearful

not like him as a rule!

Then it happened again a male voice spoke

it came from the far corner.

Too afraid to get up on this winters night

as shadows were darting about!

Had to be his imagination playing a trick

then to his right a tap or click!

Putting his bare feet on the wood tiled floor

the voice called out his name!

Was he having just a horrible nightmare

never recalled one before.

This was the first night in their cottage

he sensed an unseen rage!

Curtains moved but the windows were shut

yet a cold draft blew!

That voice yet again calling out his name

it had a profound effect.

He saw a grotesque figure hanging there

of this he became aware!

A tightness filled his chest a rising pulse

falling back then was still!

The sudden jolt on the bed woke his wife

turning on the bedside light.

Saw her husband dead face twisted in fear

heard nothing yet so near!

To her everything seemed in its rightful place

screaming the son ran in.

Without a clue of what his dad had been through

but did feel unsettled.

That there was an atmosphere not felt before

just wanted to get out the door!

Mother and son tried to stay after the funeral

but wanted to get out!

They started to hear the unknown voice to

they prepared to quickly leave!

Then a force pushed them and they were ejected

by the entity so unexpected!

Bruised in the garden lucky to be alive!

they would never return!

Nobody would stay in the cottage again!
