Under!

Felt a vibration under his feet

relaxing in the garden

a warm day the birds singing

noticed they stopped

suddenly his drink just tipped

over onto the grass

this made him jump held chair

under his breath did swear!

From miles away heard the bang

plumes of smoke rose

from a distant volcano it came

then flames and lava to

knew had to get family away

the garden began to crack

rapidly crumbled under his feet

with an unbearable heat!

Frightened he picked up the kids

wife running close behind

barely getting off the drive safely

as landscaped collapsed

blackness filled the sunny skyline

their home consumed

an acrid smoke made them choke

no time to lose hope!

They were alive many had perished!

Squatted!

She squatted in the corner of the cell

alone here in her dark mood

certain in the gloom was not alone

accused of multiple homicides

knowing these charges were just lies

as around buzzed the flies!

She was the babysitter nothing more

had looked after them before

needed the money surely not a crime

the children were frightened

said the nasty man lived up in the attic

thought kids were over dramatic!

Had heard odd noises while there before

took no notice of their pleas

to stay near their bedrooms that night

wanted to text her boyfriend

the only interest filling her young mind

to the police officer defined!

When she told them the lights went out

cell phone signal was lost

in the darkness that ensued she saw it

a monster with a horrible face

the eye sockets were just blackness

filling her full of emptiness!

For a split second then all seemed well

until noises from upstairs

but invisible hands threw her back down

furniture moved all around

as the parents came into this disturbance

desperately trying to make a stance!

Knives came out of thin air stabbing at them

she could only watch as objects hit

had to get out of that madhouse to stay alive

crashing through a window

for a few moments heard the children’s cries

dazed saw the thing behind them

could only run but something was following

soon within felt the clawing!

Terrified beyond belief ran until she collapsed

ending on the police station steps

taken inside could only yell out the address

soon the horrific scene was found

soon she had become their prime suspect

her fragmented story did reject!

She fought them agitated and confused

was forcibly placed into the cell

a light above plunged her into the dark

then aware the thing was there

deep growls surrounded her frail frame

as she was thrust violently

against the cold tiled wall and to the floor

the blood from her body did pour!

The noise brought officers rapidly to assist

but she had passed from this life

none saw the beast fade into the shadows

as the light came on once more

the visible carnage was all they could see

unaware of the evil that would be!

Derelict!

It was for a dare that the youngsters agreed

to explore the derelict house

meeting outside on a Saturday afternoon

the eldest fourteen and a bit

he was thought of as big brother to the rest

not for much longer one of the best!

Wanting to probe the house others avoided

his idea not wanting to go alone

now the reluctant foursome stood together

sneaking through a hole

in the back garden fence next to wasteland

trying to be an intrepid band!

All they had was each other and their torches

it did not look inviting

downstairs the glass was broken or cracked

the outer door ripped off

inner one was half-open the older lad Lance

entering not afraid to advance!

The youngest Lilly did not want to go inside

but a growl and shaking bush

made her run and grab big sister Lee’s hand

surprised let out a loud yell

words in large red letters daubed on each wall

then saw movement in the hall!

Now bunched together feeling very frightened

the kitchen door slammed shut

training their torches could see nothing there

but Lance wanted to search more

little Leanne started crying asking to leave

a man was watching she did believe!

Moving on through the derelict lower floor

a dragging sound was heard

as if coming down the now collapsed stairs

but nothing could be seen

yet little Leanne said again about the man

as each viewed the floor plan!

The girls voices now rising to a petrified shrill

reluctantly Lance admitted

this was far too much for him to take anymore

as a plank of wood flew in the air

helping them through a glass less window frame

admitted it was a mistake they came!

Covered in dust quickly headed back to the fence

but felt compelled for a last look

everyone saw the figure of a girl staring at them

at this ran panic-stricken home

the parents were never told just what occurred

what the children had seen and heard!

They seemed to go their separate ways after that

the eldest Lance discovered girls

as for the other they stayed at home every night

the house was demolished

soon on the site several dwellings were erected

but in weeks bad things were detected!

Large Black Eyes!

Stories have been told for many decades

that have increased in intensity

creating terror for those it has touched

instilling a dread none will forget

one incident happened on a Halloween

the fear could not be foreseen!

Around ten in the evening the dog barked

running about in a crazy manner

she was otherwise alone on this night

heard a faint tap on the front door

feeling uncertain walked down the hall

heard a child’s faint voice call!

There were no children living in the house

just herself with the agitated dog

her husband had left to work a night shift

through the frosted glass

two small silhouettes were visible there

of her own anxiety was aware!

The voice called again please may we come in

she thought it late for children

to be on their own replied what do you want

her hand shook opening the door

looked down saw two poorly dressed children

one about twelve the other under ten!

The barking continued as an unpleasant odour

made her feel suddenly nauseous

the older child stepped forward into clear view

illuminated by the hall light

making her move back strangely was afraid

their presence a threat conveyed!

Holding the door tightly so neither could enter

then they lifted their heads together

holding back a scream shocked at what she saw

their eyes were large and black

two pale skinned faces that seemed stretched

on them something inhuman etched!

Slammed the door and put on the safety change

added go away you cannot come in

what seemed like hours they stood on the porch

but eventually walked away

went to the bay window with its clear street view

they were nowhere insight terror grew!

Sat freezing on the carpet for the remaining night

a frightened pet huddled close and tight!

Rusting Ship!

The rusting ship had seen such a lot of action

in the second world war

yet still working as a cargo vessel to this day

many who had been crew

would not go on her again some left stressed

quickly by their own request!

For an unknown number who just vanished

no strict records kept

being a family venture around the islands

where large companies

would not go there was little profit to make

the gamble did not take!

On a calm early Monday tide the old ship

set off for a week-long trip

the engines sounding like an aging heart

though more irregular

but still doing their job after eighty years

but hard work for the engineers!

Always a palpable foreboding amongst crew

even though mostly new

with no work about they had no other joyce

nobody ventured alone

always in pairs the security team checked

every deck they trekked!

Above the usual noises always whispering

this was commonly reported

not helping their already jittery demeanor

there was nowhere to run

reaching the storage holds a light flashed

near them an object crashed!

Shaken heard footsteps a shape rushed by

but neither waited around

from nowhere a voice shouted you will die

two terrified seamen hid

in the crew galley like frightened children

not tough worldly men!

They had a walkie-talkie contacted the captain

informing them of their situation

angry at their disgraceful behaviour told them

to immediately come to the bridge

when they refused headed down to confront

he considered it a shabby stunt!

Reaching their position found the door open

but nobody was there

he searched every corner without success

puzzled returned to the bridge

urgently summoned everybody on board

to confront the discord!

A frightened bunch now stood before him

as he gave the bad news

informing them a full search must be done

which was not taken well

it was decided unanimously the twenty crew

for safety split into two!

There was another it was the second officer

who naturally had to steer

and safely control the aging haunted bucket

the teams searched everywhere

their nerve was under strain as they roamed

without success she was combed!

As the creaks got louder and bangs increased

returned to their base

it was clear more of the crew had gone missing

fifteen now sat in the mess

a strong sense of them being closely observed

trapped  specimen’s presevered!

Objects floating small like creatures moving about

made some aim to escape

none got far and were gone never to be seen again

frantically the captain called

up to the officer on the bridge by radio no reply

but he could not hear the cry!

An unseen mass had already engulfed his body

now without guidance it drifted

towards the shoreline and folk of a coastal town

not a soul left alive on board

the growing  malevolent mass now out of control

depraved seeking every living soul!

Under The Bed!

She was alone in the flat and for some reason

watched a late night horror movie

and became engrossed even though scared

hiding her eyes from some scenes

her flat mate was away for the whole weekend

unable to go out no money to spend.

The last scene showed the girl being grabbed

then dragged under the bed

switching the television off getting a drink

nervously from the kitchen

then into the bathroom entering frightened

her tension heightened!

An image in the small mirror made her scream

realised it was just herself

a noise made the girl stop and intently listen

everything seemed to be still

now annoyed thinking this is silly got into bed

on the pillow rested her head.

It took a long time to even doze she was on edge

unable to get warm restless

soon wide awake again thought she heard a door

bang maybe it was outside

too afraid to come from beneath the thick duvet

maybe the fear would go away!

The clock radio came on she had not set any alarm

the loud buzz annoyed her

reaching out to turn it off felt something on her arm

recoiling at speed shivered

it was wet and sticky and there was a nasty smell

making her feel sick as well!

What was happening she had lived here for a year

it had always been uneventful

from under the bed heard a voice and a pushing

quickly turned the lamp on

it stopped reluctantly sitting up nothing stirred

being like this was absurd!

Not able to settle looked at her arm it was red

the odour even stronger now

standing knew she had to peek under the bed

as she did came face to face

with her best friends lifeless body laying there

congealed blood in hair!

Reeling back in terror screaming ran into the hall

had left with the new boyfriend

heard the door close  she was having a shower

searched for the mobile phone

sure it was on the coffee table not there anymore

had to get out the front door!

Headed for the door from a closet a masked figure

lunged at her with a knife

the pain as the blade tore her flesh the adrenaline

surged through her petite body

managing to yank the door open into the corridor

running like a fleeing warrior!

Pursued by a crazed hooded attacker almost falling

down the long flight of stairs

leading to the lobby yet nobody seemed to be about

the deep wound in her arm

leaving a trail of blood as she reached the entrance

the thick glass panels a hindrance!

But at that moment a couple were just coming in

she squeezed by and into the street

where a police car came into view she ran at it

just as the knife fiend caught her

raising up for the fatal blow the policeman fired

hitting him he should have expired!

Yet for only a second jolted back than sped away

disappearing into the darkness

before another shot was able to hit this beast

the girl lay exhausted and bleeding

whatever it was had left no evidence nor a trail

but to kill her this thing did fail!

Would he come back for her to complete his task

was it human this thing in hooded Masque?

A Stranger Now!

Anne had not seen her brother for six months

he had been keeping in touch

being a scientist had gone on a research trip

to some distant rain forest

making contact once a week by satellite phone

now his whereabouts were unknown!

On the day he was due back heard a news alert

that heavy rain in south america

had caused severe flooding in the jungle region

unable to pronounce the area

recognised it as where her brother was based

added all life had been erased!

Finding this hard to accept rang the embassy

went home to be with the family

together in mourning waited for confirmation

but after months of agony

the parents calmly waited for news of their son

what else could be done?

Half asleep on a Saturday morning the phone

rang vibrating the bedside table

she had forgotten it was in the cabinet draw

or it had any power in the battery

last time she had used it was to speak to Jack

her brother was he back?

Picked it up and hastily spoke is that you Jack

a long pause then a quite voice

yes sis I am on my way home ring you again Species

when I arrive at the airport

are you alright she enquired he said no more

something was wrong for sure!

Sounded like a stranger this could not ignore

glad he was alive but worried

told her parents he had at last been in touch

yet did not make her happy

waiting for him to call once more so unsure

there was bad news in store!

At last he called spoke in the same timid way

it did not sound like him

could she pick him up now then he had gone

before she could speak

A very cold dark night then it started to rain

began to feel the strain!

Parking was not easy too many cars no spaces

at last headed for the arrivals

the area was very busy everybody pushing

impatient for their baggage

she waited to see Jack waving and calling out

but he did not seem to be about!

It was then she heard a scream and the anger

turned to panic as crowds

started running blindly in every direction

she managed to quickly hide

behind a pillar or would have been trampled

never before this fear sampled!

Security could do nothing it emptied quickly

unable understand why

looked around spotting a lone hooded figure

she knew it was her brother

approaching backed away she followed him

not really but on a whim!

She could hear the noise behind and dogs barking

what had frightened so many

please stop you know it is me what is wrong

her voice made him stop and turn

she came up close he cowered and was crying

it felt she were prying!

Pulling back his hood Anne had to turn away

could not stop an exclamation

there was a shrivelled old man staring at her

by his eyes she knew it was Jack

more monstrous than human she was shaken

hoping she had been mistaken!

Jack came close his gnarled hands afraid to touch

his sister soft perfect skin

sitting up she wanted to know what had happened

to her handsome brother

but that chance never came a police dog attacked

he lashed out it backtracked!

He was gone he did not move like an old man

was this another species

shuddering with the knowledge it was Jack

yet what had he become

the police chased him she just sat petrified

he should have died!

Back at the car wondered where he could be

what to tell mum and dad

that would be hard they had waited patiently

how could she tell the truth

that moment of decision would delay for now

hoping it was not real somehow!

It was her brother yet a stranger now!

New Beginning!

For the parents and five girls of varying ages

this was the chance for a new start

in a different location far away from the city

where their eldest had problems

claiming the house was haunted by a spirit

so would not stay within it!

Managed to get into trouble and arrested

eventually having a breakdown

at seventeen needed psychiatric support

ending in a mental asylum

realised their daughter would not return

having little money a concern!

There was no choice when their youngest saw

unseen by them girls running around

and a woman in her room standing screaming

the decision was made to leave

having one disturbed girl was enough not two

nothing else they could do

On the internet this house seemed to appeal

cheap needing some work

a bargain not to be missed the family agreed

mum and dad looked alone

with no choice this was all they could afford

nothing wrong the agent assured!

Their new home was a long way from the last

and the light was fading on arrival

it took some time to pick their eldest child up

from the hospital’s psychiatric wing

darkness had fallen when they entered within

unaware it was a house of sin!

Everybody was too tired to feel any concern

settling in the lounge together

sleeping bags their beds for this one night

though it was a restless sleep

not because of  it being a strange new dwelling

there were sounds like pitiful yelling!

Before dawn the eldest Rebecca was a awoken

by a whisper in her ear so clear

half asleep saw a girl of similar age stood there

thin and pale and beckoning

as if wanting her to follow but she tripped falling

yet still heard a voice calling!

The noise woke the family and the girl had gone

and now no pleading voice

said nothing in case it was assumed a relapse

she knew that it was a ghost

since she was very young she could see the dead

experts said she was mad instead!

Now Rebecca accepted it was a gift that felt a curse

the only other who understood

was her youngest sister Amy she to often saw them

said they were her imaginary friends

but the ones Rebecca saw were more malevolent

unable to rest because of their torment!

Thinking it had quietened down since being in care

was not happy to see them here

realising there was a danger but what was unclear

for the rest of the day brooded

except Amy nobody knew the house was harmful

possessed by a being nasty and cruel!

The area looked pleasant but evil still remained

she could see hanging women

on trees outside men dragging them from inside

by the evening she was scared

dad was starting a new job the very next day

knowing none of them should stay!

In their bedrooms saw the shadow beings moving

she had to get her siblings out

young Amy now held her hand tightly frightened

with the overwhelming presence

of violence at any possible moment she had to act

but had no idea about tact .

Her parents were use to her in uncontrollable rages

but now confident was in control

told Amy to wait outside she ran up the stairs

helping the other sisters down

then started screaming to get mum and dad riled

and out before they were all defiled!

Opening the door startled Rebecca they followed her

both being naturally concerned

rushing into the garden was surprised to see them all

at that moment there was a flash

just the two saw faces at the window then the blaze

the family stared helplessly in a daze!

But they were all alive! But was it over?

Silhouette!

From the crowds I saw your angelic silhouette

luminous and so unbelievably pure

a radiance that filled me with such a warmth

every fear and tension disappeared

even with the growing chanting angry crowd

the aroused mob getting loud!

Pushed from behind forced to fall on my knees

on seeking you once more

no longer there that vision of  such loveliness

in contrast to the surroundings

what had been a peaceful and friendly protest

turned to violence and arrest!

A passer-by that found themselves in hand cuffs

forced into a police van

no matter what I said my words were ignored

transported to a nearby jail

yet that image sustained my calmness and grief

inside a growing belief!

Here certain for a purpose inside so strong

as I waited with many

to be booked in by the custody sergeant

she was here as well

then as our eyes focused just disappeared

this had become weird!

In the very spot stood a frightened woman

crying scared and dejected

going across to speak just to show support

we ended up in conversation

like me had been picked up just observing

certainly disconcerting.

Her brother amongst the demonstrators

who had been injured

trying to help him was arrested for affray

not knowing how badly hurt

could not get any news felt really dejected

in her domineer reflected!

The mission now clear to give you support

both wrongly accused

neither connected to the violent dispute

the girl then revealed

that she had briefly spoken to  a radiant angel

who said it would be well!

That somebody will be with you for guidance

and hold your hand

smiling she was right me here by your side

a few hours later we left

no charges made to seek a  brothers condition

distress now in remission!

They were brought together as total strangers

but left together as close friends!

The angelic figure watched them go satisfied

cupid had done her work!
