Fair maiden

Fair maiden walking by my side

together we chatter I cannot hide

our feelings of love my miss Jane

from blushing it is hard to refrain

sunny strolling on a path of stone

the two of us are happy alone.

Cherished hours united we share

the time is short both are aware

soon I must return to the war

a chance I may return no more

my king and country I am loyal

to protect our liberty and our soil.

Fair maiden here with you I pray

to be back for our wedding day

if this is not truly meant to be

my love this day remember me

not in a mud filled putrid trench

with comrades and human stench!

Never forget those  lives cut short

freedom for all is why we fought!

That Day!

The weather was at last good on that day

as the countless military craft

headed for the designated landing beach

soldiers and sailors ready to fight

face the formidable enemy forces as one

their resolve had to be strong!

Socializing before the normality ended

many nations together in unity

differences put aside to defeat the foe

navy guns firing overhead

to wipe out the damaging gun positions

creating lethal conditions!

Onward without ceasing charged the brave

knowing they could not fail

into history to breach those enemy lines

at a terrible cost of comrades

planes dropping bombs noise and smoke

in their lungs made them choke!

Fighters back on their home soil side by side

many there for god and country

others dying to free their people from tyranny

civilians also slain on that day

as the allies spearheaded the bloody onslaught

each step desperately fought!

This being the first major step to Victory!

The Foureyed Poet.
