Locomotive!

The steam locomotive glistened motionless

in the railway museum

as visitors clambered in the driver’s cab

handling the large levers

children’s sticky fingers touching so keen

upon this magnificent machine!

From a different age of public transport

countless numbers travelled

holiday makers hard pressed commuters

during those days of steam

preserved by railway preservation groups

restored for the fun to recoup!

The engine resprayed in its original livery

pride filled the workers

bad luck followed it from scrap to grandeur

accidents had dogged progress

even when being taken off the flatbed truck

moving it in there was bad  luck!

Though were professionally trained personnel

that operated the transfer

cables snapped nearly tipping the train over

but through skill was averted

since then six months on much had arisen

creating much division!

Visitors had reported a man sitting in the cab

boiler suit and cap smiling

talking to the them seemed to be in control

yet they had no employees

here working on any of the engines displayed

no staff this image surveyed!

But after the museum was closed noises heard

as the cleaners worked

described it like shovelling and metal clanging

heavy boots on the floor

even when lights were off that engine shone

something here was wrong!

Unexplained incidents happened items fell down

missing visitors and stewards

a feeling of happiness and despair lingered

yet it was the one engine

that everybody who came was always drawn to

the one they wanted to view!

It had been a working engine on the main lines

nobody knew its full history

but reports persisted of the friendly driver

maybe who had died

unable to be parted from a life he really enjoyed

his spirit still employed!

But there was a strong sense of bad karma as well

did a dark entity haunt it as well?

Gold Band!

She looked intently at the gold band

on her long bony finger

playing with it nervously exposing

dried blood underneath

quickly she  headed to the rest room

remnants left of the groom!

Watching blood swirl down the sink

was satisfying to observe

she had loathed his very existence

remembering his body

was in the car boot she must leave

euphoria did not grieve!

Calmly walked through that busy bar

nobody noticed her pass

got in the motor now set on her course

to a lonely spot chosen

how did she get into this sordid mess

began to feel the stress!

Seemed a nice guy for a short while

then started his cheating

beating her up virtually every night

on this day went too far

said she was in the way so had to die

their marriage being a lie!

This attack forced her into the kitchen

avoiding the first blow

by the sink his hands around her throat

grasping a knife thrust it in

anger welled twisted the serrated blade

upon the table splayed!

Thought of pleading self-defence at first

one big problem with that

had been slowly poisoning him for weeks

one choice to disappear

she had made plans her new man waited

another identity created!

Into the wilderness they went one dead one reborn!
