Neighbour!

How quiet without his neighbour anymore

though they had been ill

it was not a shocked when she passed away

strange noises again he heard

to him unsettling because nobody was there

not that he was aware!

Relations came to clear out all her belongings

yet something still remained

nearly a year before the house had been sold

a couple bought the place

glad for the company but certainly not to go in

sensed bad things about to begin!

Always weary of the seemingly nice old lady

neighbours for many years

yet never went into her house too afraid

often could see a man lurking

yet she had never been married that he knew

had left a nefarious residue!

Even the thought of noises he had listened to

made his chest feel very tight

never found out the cause of the loud chants

or emanating screams of terror

called the police who just ignored his concern

made his stomach churn!

After several calls did come to speak with her

but did not go inside

from then on it got worse heard a man’s voice

as if knowing he complained

many nights lay listening in fear of his sanity

and the blasphemous profanity!

His conscience would no longer let him rest

must tell them of the neighbour

knocked on the door wondering what to say

at first there was no reply

then the door opened the old lady stared back

he collapsed with a heart attack!

Only a short time later the couple returned home

aghast to find him deceased

with no idea of dead eyes watching them both

later they entered their house

the door still locked to them all was tranquil

until a presence they could feel!

That night the screams and awful noises began!

The Occupant!

The house was drab with a ghoulish feel

the occupant invited her in

a rather frail lady using a walking stick

she was nervous being new

should have support from a senior nurse

but alone would have to converse!

who had been taken ill at very short notice

the patient had just come back

from convalescent home living here alone

the duty of the district nurse

was to check dressings and complications

including well-being of patients!

Though looked quite well was rather creepy

imagining her as a witch

that thought was not helped as a black cat

strolled into the large room

wanting to get on tried to see the dressing

but now had begun stressing!

What a first case to have been assigned to do

the room was extremely dingy

curtains were closed her anxiety was high

eventually the task completed

cleared up and was prepared for an exit

when the lady said why not sit?

Offered to make the nurse a tea or coffee

for showing such kindness

shaking just wanting to run then the clock

chimed loudly she jumped

making excuses turned to run and tripped

over the cat her head clipped!

Got up a trickle of blood from a small wound

ran down her now pale face

a little dizzy managed to leave glancing back

the elderly woman stood

staring out in her arms the dreaded cat

the enthusiasm had gone flat!

Walked away out of sight back to the car

blood dripped on the uniform

decided it best to return to the surgery

but then lost consciousness

awoke by her loud mobile phone tone

very cold and still alone!

A fellow nurse rang to see if she was alright

said no need visit the patient

whose address she had minutes ago left

until she saw the time

on the large man’s wristwatch she wore

it was now twelve forty-four!

She had been here over two hours asleep

not thinking it was the fall

her friend said the old lady had died

last evening at home

trying very hard not to scream aloud

in her hands head bowed!

What had she seen it was so surreal

in her interior mirror saw

the wound and track of dried blood

how her head throbbed

there was nobody at all in the street

sat firmly in the car seat!

Petrified called her boyfriend to come!

Unwanted Guest!

The family moved into the nice large home

their eldest had not seen it.

Being away until the day they all entered

deciding it didn’t feel right.

Trying to tell them the unease she felt within

as their residency did begin.

So they settled in with absolutely no problems

except for their daughter Jo.

One night awoke suddenly and sat up with a jolt

usually a deep sleeper.

With no idea what caused it as nothing was about

then heard a voice shout!

Not keen to look hoping it was a natural sound

settled back under the covers.

Closing her eyes tightly hearing another noise

opening her left eye.

Saw a woman leaning over close to her cheek

unable to scream or speak!

Tried to tell her parents who didn’t understand

the atmosphere fine for them.

Putting this behind her with nobody to confide

but not long after sat quietly.

An unopened bottle of water fell off her table

she thought had been stable!

No windows open the bedroom door shut tight

leaving her very disconcerted.

Why was she  the one of unwanted attraction

centre of disembodied attention.

Then the unplugged television turned itself on

not to be there she did long!

These incidents are still ongoing nothing changed

she began to get a complex.

What in these premises had made the spirits stir

thinking it was time to leave.

But financial restraints she had no choice but stay

this problem wouldn’t go way!

What unknown forces were at work here

who was the unwanted guest?

So Close!

In my mind its wonderful when we meet

so close to you I deeply feel

our flirtatious banter is always a treat

secretly having that tender appeal!

But know it is only within my lonely mind

an imaginary female friend that’s all

so perfect thoughtful gentle and very kind

there when others ignore my call!

In the silence you comfort me from fear

raise my spirits halting even one tear

giving me the will to live yet another day

keeping that dark depression at bay!
