Stark!

Stark extending into the distance

to those whose fingers

clenched it in forlorn desperation

the fence the barrier

to an existence with such brutality

an endless living misery

imprisoned within their homeland

any hope of freedom banned!

Children growing up with real hate

watching their people die

the only weapons stones and faith

ever waiting for justice

as the world viewed the brutality

seemingly unable to stop

the genocide escalating within

their plight a hidden sin!

From behind the fence blank faces

observed their persecutors

with steely determination and fire

never to submit or surrender

of their rightful country nor culture

to any corrupt oppressors

proud to stand up to be counted

no matter the threats mounted!

Little Understanding!

There seems little understanding of how others live

is common amongst those who should understand

corruption from leaders that find it hard to forgive

just wanting to rule and dominate their homeland

coldly not caring for the people’s self-preservation

as the families suffer with increasing inflation!

How the people are struggling with nowhere to go

endlessly wondering as their countries are dying

no support or compassion with the constant flow

lives destroyed starvation disease yet still defying

countries often judged by those at their head

with despair all around there are too many dead!

Surely there must be a much brighter tomorrow

can there be a strong faith to overcome sorrow

often it is the rulers creating the internal strife

while they and their cronies have the good life!

Ball Of Fire!

He was certain something fell from above

a bright orange ball of fire

with a fiery tail streaked across above him

dropping at speed downwards

a silent motion picture there was no sound

in the distant desert came to ground!

Awe struck to him thought this was a sign

very odd for a true atheist

had he actually found a suppressed faith

in a god our alleged creator

something made him become tenacious

for somebody always gracious!

From then on the image within embedded

had to reach that distant place

became a pilgrimage of personal discovery

instinct drove him forward

heading into the desert without hesitation

to seek for an explanation!

His mind-set on just one mission that ball

of bright orange fire he saw

without care for his safety just charged on

with only his instinct as a guide

certain he knew where it had descended

no stopping until frenzied quest ended!

Adrenaline forced a fatigued body onward

but his mechanical beast failed

as dusk fell the temperature plummeted

yet he had to stumble on

his mind buzzed knew it was very close by

emotions erupted started to cry!

Coming to a steep dip in the desert landscape

fell to his knees as he saw it

a large craft below hovering above the sand

did not feel scared observing

that urge to approach was quickly curtailed

like a banshee he wailed!

As he heard vehicles approach from behind

armed men surrounded him

forcibly was thrown shackled into a van

the last image was that craft

what had drawn him here wanted to stay

but the military took him away!

Now was linked to this alien technology

or was reality closer to home

if he survived had to get to the bottom

of a mystery so deeply drawn to

taken underground to a research facility

reduced for the moment to docility!

But within him hidden memories stirred!

The Couple!

The couple sat hugging each other

not only for love but for warmth

their roof above was the open sky

their carpet under foot cardboard

each other all they had to live for

in this day and age truly poor!

Yet they stayed together not bitter

nor wanting charity or empathy

once lived in a nice home good jobs

but through unemployment

their lives spiralled out of control

taking an unwelcome toll!

Forced into the depths of despair

illness added its heavy burden

but they had each other to share

not bitter or blaming anybody

had faith when it all seemed bleak

in unity a fresh start would seek!

Together they hugged each other

as a lost society rushed by

no longer caring for the destitute

without money and wealth

humanity left to grim prospects

the majority treated as rejects!

Faith!

That single moment changed his life forever

there on his second tour of duty

thought he was hardened to atrocities of war

even when facing his own death

another demolished village came up ahead

more wounded and many dead!

On the road came upon a woman crouching

holding a man’s lifeless body

two small children wandering dazed and  lost

each cried with endless tears

looking down in body armour and loaded gun

under the searing heat of the sun!

Feeling himself overwhelmed with the scene

had not been to church for years

his faith was now being tested himself a father

a beautiful wife waiting at home

safe away from such brutality of this warfare

their torment for a time did share!

Made him confront his own vulnerability and belief

feeling that overwhelming grief!

Then became a soldier once more and moved on!

The Pledge!

The pledge that was made to this young man

filled him with a passion

thinking he would be fighting for his beliefs

against the true enemy

this was how it was sold to this genuine being

but from himself was fleeing!

Like so many had been drawn to follow religion

but as too often is the case

words twisted and created making it like a calling

brought together as a family

the promise of a better way of life in unity

in one large community!

Once drawn in realized life meant much more

it was a hollow dream

finding compassion and love was not the aim

unable to escape the horrors

death came far to soon the allusion shattered

his body torn and battered!

The relatives shocked with no remains to mourn

their faith apart torn!

Settlers!

On the plains of the vast unexplored country

families had come as settlers.

Searching a new start from their homeland

realising hardships ahead.

Into the wilderness of a hostile environment

was their mutual intent!

Their only belongings stored in their wagon

just one of a long train.

No comforts only heartache along the trail

dying an every day event!

Raids by indigenous indian’s a constant threat

but they’d never admit regret.

An unmapped territory never before explored

with only their courage.

Many with faith in their god to keep them safe

from far-flung nations.

Seeking a better life in an unforgiving culture

as overhead flew the vulture!

Days of searing heat as man and animals dropped

countless miles of dust.

Then the torrents of pitiless rain and flash floods

left them with nothing!

Yet the survival instinct drove them to their goal

despite the eventual toll!

Creating a nation to this day that is loved and hated

by different parts of our world.

Influenced by the suffering of those early settlers

determined foolish and brave.

Carving their names in the history books of mankind

today how are their endeavours defined?

As our society reaches terminal velocity!

Upon!

Upon those streets the blood did run

children playing having fun.

The soldiers came cold and callous

their hearts filled with malice.

Nobody was immune no mercy shown

seeds of hatred were  sown!

That day was but another in their fight

to see the next morning light.

Food a luxury all amenities destroyed

with their lives the army toyed!

Oppression and misery all they knew

surely a reason they were due!

The bombs rained down on the meek

their bodies increasingly weak.

Resistance grew the houses crumbled

and the ground rumbled.

Their faith through adversity not shaken

though many loved ones taken!

This  scenario has forever been repeated

their spirits can never be defeated.

Nothing changes in the history of mankind

always the aggressors and maligned!

Centuries have passed the coffins filled

forever the innocent killed!
