Exposed!

The wind lashed with force across the land

which exposed the metal cover

covertly hidden from any human curiosity

on restricted military land

where lethal chemicals were secretly stored

the public would be appalled!

 

Underneath a large concrete and steel base

nuclear weapons there as well

primed ready for an immediate deployment

and facilities for an army

guarded twenty four seven through the year

a secret facility so near!

 

A vast complex not designed for public use

now had a raging fire

evacuation plans immediately set in motion

to clear the population

as it was becoming an unavoidable holocaust

where thousands could be lost!

 

Though their biggest worry was the radiation

if the missiles were ignited

a story not far from the real frightening truth

was broadcast as army and police

started the evacuation as the fire was fought

knowing the situation was fraught!

 

Even as the people were forced from the area

the first explosion came

that showered the air with the deadly radiation

followed by lethal chemicals

there was no chance for the fleeing population

as it spread all over the nation!

 

News agencies reported a major chemical blast

had left hundreds dead

with countless numbers also critically injured

a state of emergency declared

the authorities deception was firmly in place

once more deceiving the human race!

 

From then on martial law was upon us imposed

with a traumatized nation ruled unopposed!

Released!

From the bomb crater the beast was released

the massive explosion scattered

shrapnel and debris outwards at high velocity

and downward deep in the ground

penetrating a long hidden uncharted cave

a hole exposed by the shock wave!

 

With the evacuation and devastation it came

nobody knew of the presence

from below the alien creature had emerged

from long confinement

awoken after thousand of centuries trapped

to the atmosphere hard to adapt!

 

Unlike all the earthbound humanoid species

this being was not carbon based

nor in a solid form looking like a dark mist

blending in with the surroundings

because of our gravity needed a host to survive

buried deep only reason alive!

 

It searched for a victim to enter and control

but the battle raged on

the explosion that had set an evil alien free

sensed few living about

desperate saw a soldier in ruins cowering

soon his mind devouring!

 

From a hunched weary man now stood tall

his eyes lit brightly

a predator filled with the long pent-up anger

could start his quest

walking along abruptly the body just dropped

a bullet in the back stopped!

 

There was nobody to transfer into felt the pain

and the end of life

back in its innate shape hovered over the scene

blending in with smoke

rising from the fires that littered far below

decided it was the moment to go!

 

Into the vacuum of space where it could survive

to wander in search

of another world that itself could easily destroy

settling on passing asteroid

leaving earth to be eradicated by its own hand

as ill winds the fires fanned!

 

With a last thought could do no more damage

than the brutality of the human rage!

Control Room!

In the fire control room an urgent call received

a fire in a new multiplex cinema

several fire appliances were urgently dispatched

strangely no other details provided

yet on arrival there was no incident a false alarm

at least nobody had come to any harm!

 

Reported into their records as another hoax call

three days later were there again

not been opened yet was it a faulty fire system

after a complete check nothing found

workmen had to complete the interior trim

but what they had seen was grim!

 

Problems had held up construction from the start

as bones were found during groundwork

foundations had collapsed others with serious cracks

accidents occurred at an increasing rate

creating an atmosphere of suspicion and mistrust

as equipment then started to combust!

 

Even new tiles just stuck on the bathroom walls

flew off like bullets fired from a gun

eventually the moment came they all stopped

unable to continue in such danger

the number of the workforce quickly decreased

so all labour on the cinema ceased!

 

During the investigation of the electrical wiring

all seemed to be in perfect order

the control room received another urgent call

once more to return to the cinema

it was a fire this time on a wet blustery night

the whole building was well alight!

 

As they arrived in the still unfinished car park

there was a large crowd gathered

noticing the large sink hole near the entrance

some fireman laid out the hoses

waiting for the water pressure to push it out

yet nothing came from the spout!

 

They tried nearby hydrants and stored water

in their own vehicles  to no avail

while calling for more back up could only watch

with time they went to the large hole

where the crowds had moved some distance away

there was a palpable fear on display!

 

Glancing in the crews could see hundreds of bones

everywhere then something crawled

slowly up the earth sides towards them at the top

the ground began to crumble

and the complex began to collapse the crowd ran

in a panic no evacuation plan!

 

They evacuated the site rapidly before retreating

some distance concerned of a tremor

where it was visible to see it vanish as the earth

seemed to open up and swallow it

an entity had risen from somewhere far below

crawling nearby bringing much woe!

 

Nobody had died on that night but not long after

those who had been there or involved

started to either disappear or have grisly deaths

the fire raged on could not be quelled

the once thriving community is where evil dwells

and only the death toll swells!

 

From that site whatever haunted it had spread

to homes and public properties

as amongst the remaining population the thing

crawls only seen when too late

below them was a large ancient sacred burial pit

whom as yet none of the theories fit!

Eruption!

It had been warned over centuries the eruption

of a volcano under a park

the surface the outer crust of a bubbling inferno

where animals freely roamed

experts with conflicting opinions and scenarios

whether or not the lava blows!

 

Speculation of a day animals stampeding in panic

heading out of the national park

earth tremors shaking the ground as tensions rose

the area  about to explode

every roadway and tracks becoming thermogenic

humidity steaming and thick!

 

A vast landscape of mountains and sloping forests

deep lakes with rolling plains

it would be devastation if the eruption did befall

in this wondrous locality

those who lived around the park contemplated

were their futures fated?

 

On a warm summers day it began the sun rising

the dew quickly evaporating

a wonderful scene to gaze upon a normal day

though faint tremors

hardly noticeable in the beginning escalated

swiftly became unabated!

 

It soon became apparent that the unthinkable

a long predicted eruption

of  this picturesque national park had begun

it was known the surface

was the vast crust covering the volcanoes top

and lava nothing could stop!

 

Years of planning made evacuation much easier

but the scale unprecedented

fast flowing molten lava and gases accelerated

overtaking those fleeing

a huge black cloud ascended into the clear sky

and light to man did deny!

 

Lava swallowed up land or it crumbled away

the once idyllic views lost

an enduring darkness and coldness began

spreading around the globe

humanity would have to battle nature as one

for its survival to be won!

 

Could this scenario happen it seems very possible!
