Regret!

Regret the only word he could think of at the time

hidden in the deep military bunker

risking his thoughts being read by the computers

doubting the technology advances

he had created to combat the android revolution

that was now part of our evolution!

Even as the inventor began to think it was crazy

to have created these robotics

but being under orders had to complete this task

finding the answer how to out smart

superior machines created by man’s God complex

their creation had upon all put a hex!

Down in the deep bunker in his sophisticated lab

knew this would not be safe for long

could hear the explosions rapidly becoming louder

secure computers would be hacked

his software had been tested on human subjects

classed by his masters as rejects!

Within the hour alarms rang out in the complex

security arrived said time to go

communication systems immediately shut down

running through escape tunnels

quickly made their way to a high-speed bullet train

their lives desperately trying to retain!

A split second later the whole base was disintegrated

the androids had not killed their mark

unable to eliminate him yet certain software erased

yet this too had also been rescued

so the war would intensify their superiority had ended

into unknown depths humanity descended!

The conflict between man and machine entered a new phase!

Alarm!

Heard the alarm thought it was morning

then the odour of acrid smoke

jolted her into realisation there was a fire

rolled out of bed stayed low

flames trying to get under the closed-door

her breathing becoming poor!

On the third level such a long way to jump

tried to hold the window sill

strength sapped could not grab the latch

but slid down the wall

flames had permeated the door and frame

she would die if nobody came!

Fire had now ignited the carpet and bedding

going into a deep sleep

smoke swirling around this must be the end

through half closed eyes

somebody rushed in felt herself being raised

knew she was being saved!

Unable to see anything the rescuer never spoke

yet somehow was at ease

suddenly the air was clear and sirens neared

oxygen mask placed upon her face

blankets to as she began to shiver a voice spoke

no longer did she want to choke!

In the ambulance they said she had a lucky escape

asked how she got herself out

told them somebody had brought her to safety

told later the building was gutted

nobody could have gotten into that apartment

was their expert judgement!

So who had managed to get inside nobody knew

placing her completely unharmed

on the grass in front of structure in clear view

was her life truly charmed?

Maybe it was a guarding angel or kindly ghost!

Breakdown!

The breakdown service received a frantic call

a frightened voice spoke

a females car for some reason would not start

in a side street close by

a priority call was put out to quickly assist

an area where trouble did persist!

As the mechanic approached the dingy street

he could see the callers car

bonnet lid was up and drivers door open wide

cautiously parked behind it

consternation overcame him this was sinister

what was his escape perimeter?

Got out to take a closer look at the empty car

a street light shone brightly down

nobody was to be seen noticing scratches

on the deeply dented roof

a trail of what could be blood on the ground

hearing a faint screaming sound!

Though he knew the rule was to radio control

his instinct made him pursue

thinking only of the woman’s desperate plight

holding a spanner followed the noise

along the semi derelict and littered pavement

searching for victim and assailant!

Saw no other living soul as he followed the trail

it went into an overgrown garden

female cries were louder also a disturbing growl

almost afraid to step forward

moved on gripping his make do weapon tight

not suspecting the coming sight!

Behind a dilapidated and rotting garden shed

saw beast with taught grey skin

ripping at the females flesh laying so still

into the fray he went on instinct

hitting it hard but the spanner rebounded

and on him the thing rounded!

Fang like teeth with large pitch black eyes

it charged him he reeled back

falling managed grabbed a piece of wood

with a sharp point he lunged

ripped into the body that made it divert

just disappeared sure it was hurt!

Dizzy bruised and shaken ran to the woman

sure with blood loss was dead

amazed felt a faint pulse picked up and ran

no time to think had to get help

after leaving her in casualty sat traumatized

as the events in his mind formalised!

What had he just confronted in that garden

nobody would believe his account

still had to ring his firm with an explanation

glanced at his own bruises shaking

thinking of that beast roaming somewhere

close by of this was too aware!

Heard loud talking the police had been called

no longer his tale could be stalled!

at this point unsure if the woman was alive

uncertain of the future deeply sighed!

A Friends Apartment!

The surroundings of his friend’s apartment

was unfamiliar to him.

How they’d got back was a total mystery

waking up on the couch.

Needing to find the toilet for an urgent pee

but it was difficult to see.

No idea where the bathroom was situated

knocking into furniture.

Unable to find a light switch blundered on

at last finding the room.

Relief! Found himself staring at his reflection

in a mirror feeling rejection!

Then for a second an image came behind him

certain it was his friend.

Swinging around to speak nothing was there

how could he be that quick?

Now adjusted to darkness made his way back

on a table his leg did whack!

Sliding his hand along the wall found the switch

instantly was painfully bright.

Soon becoming alert when he saw the gory mess

and vandalised room!

Blood spattered on the floors and every wall

then on something did fall!

The body of a young woman he’d never met

now smeared in her blood!

Running to the hallway trying to escape

the exit door was insight.

Reaching it only to find it had been locked

his rationality rocked!

What was he trapped in here with he stressed

where was his elusive mate?

His breath now laboured and sweat dripped

afraid to move a muscle!

Knowing it had killed one person already

on his feet was unsteady!

Nearby was an old-fashioned hat stand

a wooden cane hung there.

Reaching out gripped it in his sticky hand

seeing movement nearby.

There looking at him was he guessed his mate

bloody eyes filled with hate!

He knew what had turned this gentle person

was not an important issue.

Hoping he had the strength to fight for his life

as the beast lunged forward.

Hitting it as hard as he could but to no avail

this act sadly did fail!

But the cane had snapped in two he held a stake

very long and jagged!

By luck or a higher power there was one chance

the beast came at him again!

Lowering its head he thrust it hard like a sword

praying a direct hit he’d scored!

An awful scream and this thing fell on top of him

he could see the cane had struck.

Piercing an eye pushing it off him he just cried

as voices and banging.

Started loudly on the still locked main front door

he was safe he felt sure.

But at that moment the beast rose from the floor!
