Illegal Race!

The engine purred it was highly tuned

pristine so shiny the red beast

along side a green car with tinted glass

both poised on the open road

a girl stood holding red handkerchief

jumping with such excitement

hundreds there shouting making a din

ready for the illegal race to begin!

 

As her arm dropped with a sharp thrust

engines roared wheels spinning

smell of burnt rubber soon out of sight

speeds now exceeded a ton

down the public highway eyes fixated

the law these speeders hated!

 

Their paths blocked as they approached

passing pedestrians scattered

too often other motorists compromised

by adrenaline pumping youth

risking their lives and others for the thrill

lacking common sense and skill!

 

After night falls on any long straight roads

teenage racers will gather

to break the law to show off and display

their customized chariots

for them no rules just drive like bloody hell

boasting videos and stories to tell!

 

Living for the moment upon social media!

The Road!

Road surface was breaking up poor maintenance

along the verges much debris

where there had been many road traffic accidents

as cars passed at high-speed

with no thought of the danger that lurked ahead

where there had been many dead!

 

Sure they were protected in their metal boxes

immune from dying or injury

surrounded by safety features they charge

everything outside was unreal

the electronics efficiently executed control

but onboard computers with no soul!

 

As the surface crumbled tyres compensated

trying hard yet failing to grip

potholes evermore forming as roads failed

councils bleating they had no money

yet motorists paying large sums in fuel duty

and taxes bringing in lots of booty!

 

This is then diverted into many other projects

policing has today rapidly declined

as cars often chosen as modes of transport

increasingly used as weapons

for some they are their prefered killing machine

this disregard for life obscene!

 

Without a license insurance and any conscience

drive after drinking and drug taking

teenager racers to charge at high-speed for fun

thinking they are invincible to dying

too often in tragic circumstances lives are lost

futures hopes and dreams tossed!

 

Many drive reflecting on their attitude to life!

Heroes!

Numerous years have gone past

with the countless stories told

of heroic deeds the scope is vast

brave ones who have been so bold

we need these idols and heroes

to give us the power and drive

endless wars with nameless foes

when victims endeavor to survive

heroes can be found everywhere

as the worlds troubles increase

those with strength of will to dare

giving those in need the release

as the brave often face acclaim

their publicity is widespread

sometimes it is unwanted fame

a thank you would do instead!

 

We can only salute the brave

who so often our lives do save!
