Dreaded!

The moment he had dreaded being back

from six months tour of duty

though it had been hard felt more secure

with comrades on the battleground

was privy to information aliens were here

infiltrating his country’s population

numbers critical certain an invasion force

intel received from reliable source!

The harsh reality it was his own home city

where the largest concentration

had been recently reported was assigned

to a covert unit to seek and destroy

soon would be engaged in the campaign

as it was humanities survival

this would spiral into a deadly final clash

when forever into oblivion crash!

One fact was hard to swallow identification

until now was impossible to detect

fully integrating with the human population

their DNA sequence almost matching

being why there had been no prior warning

of the extent of the quiet invasion

as this species not part of the known races

stored in the classified data bases!

The military units were based in a school

on the edge of the city limit

they waited for their direct orders to enter

each issued with special goggles

told the only way you could tell the enemy

adding to the dangerous mission

within hours planes arrived for air support

their objective this enemy to thwart!

Had little time for any apprehension to build

explosions shook their positions

aliens had made the first devastating strike

with their advanced technology

the orders came swiftly now no turning back

into a war with a devious foe

a vicious enemy had never before engaged

or on such a theatre of war waged!

With their added vision they could identify

the shape shifter’s real form

adding to the raging fires and total carnage

his team were slaughtered

disintegrating into dust as they charged

his mind focused on his family

safe in one of the underground fortifications

hidden below the cities foundations!

He did not look back as into the abyss he went!

Reflection!

Christmas celebrations now an expensive memory

new year hangovers have abated

twenty seventeen just embedded in your thoughts

world turmoil continues

without even a moment of reflection of human cost

where compassion is lost!

Those enthusiastic resolutions are already forgotten

salaries and work a growing issue

more food banks created as the belts become tight

yet money there for public buildings

with the brexit deadline quickly looming up ahead

filling many with a sense of dread!

Europe seems more divided and a new president-elect

an air of depression lingers

for most they are resigned for yet another tough year

with the added fear of attack

the trust in politicians dividing our crowded nation

there is a need for unity and cooperation!

Sound a familiar pattern that keeps on repeating

every country has its tribulations

people have to battle on no point in weeping

with countless social frustrations

but for us to survive there must be some hope

or as problems soar we may not cope!

Street light!

The street light flickered above her head

just thought it faulty

walked on down the well-lit pavement

then at the fifth post

went out with a bang followed by the rest

a tightness in her chest!

The crowds surrounding her became silent

from a loud happy crowd

a forced silence and uncertainty spread

what sounded like gunfire

created a panic as screams filled the air

of the growing danger all aware!

Glass windows shattered amongst city lights

mayhem ensued nobody knew

darkness filled the pedestrian walkways

as injured lay sprawled

masked angry figures moved quickly around

crouched low to the ground!

Impossible to tell if they were of human origin

in the beginning just a few

but the number rapidly grew firing weapons

that did not look familiar

those who tried to escape were hit by a beam

fell without even a scream!

From the sky lights blinded yet deathly quiet

many were herded together

the woman was forced to stand she knew

this was no alien invasion

she had never before seen a real android

that of human emotions were void!

But it had been reported many had escaped

from a military facility

now able to think being far more intelligent

the public were told

they had been captured the danger contained

order had been maintained!

A craft landed and people were forced onboard

loud explosions started

the army and police arrived causing more panic

helicopters now hovered

in a flash the androids ship was hit and exploded

hope of rescue eroded!

Taking just a few hostages they fled the carnage

followed by the troops

many bodies lay around yet none of the robots

littered the bloody scene

made by man as an indestructible military force

news said from an unknown source!

The woman walked back fires now lit her way

guided by uniformed officers

distant explosions filled the smoke polluted air

sirens whaled incessantly

paramedics attended the wounded and dead

she dreaded the future ahead!

Robot wars no longer science fiction but reality!

Dreaded

I really dreaded answering the phone today

am I easy game?

That salesman bombarded my hearing

and I just listened!

Every time I tried to interrupt he talked

being verbally stalked!

Never have I been harassed in this way

at first he was pleasant.

An hour passed should have clicked off

had I become mesmerised?

Saying he wanted to invest my savings

continuing his ravings!

Wanting to put all my money in fine wines

had my interests at heart.

As I got angry he rambled on non stop

lecturing like a teacher.

In the end I felt mentally violated by him

speaking to me if I was dim!

At last courage prevailed told Him I am going

yet on her persisted.

I could take no more my head was throbbing

this was hard sell.

Why did I allow him to go on for that long

not to hang up was I wrong?

Tolerance for pensioners has surely got worse

thought of as a curse!

Abused and robbed thinking them easy prey

unable to run away!

Where has that respect gone today?
