Quiet Day!

To him a quiet day had thought

leaving his regular place of work

no warning in cross fire caught

strangers in shadows did lurk

so happy as he walked that way

bang pain on the ground he lay!

Nothing could ever be done again

a gun culture taken another soul

an increasing number now slain

society with a souring death toll

crime does rule our way of living

beings merciless never forgiving!

Here so many futures taken away

afraid to speak safety in doubt

emotions kept behind sad eyes

families in danger if found out

a vicious circle to be dwelling in

the barrier of protection is thin!

Without his dignity there he did lay!

Inhumane!

They asked for nothing but respect

to be noticed their voice heard

not spat upon treated as inhumane

by the smartly dressed passersby

the smell of their expensive perfume

sitting in the gutter with no room!

The big cars going by spewing fumes

unable to eat or stay clean

once had their own home and dignity

but loss of work and debt

forced the young family onto the street

the true society did meet!

More found themselves in a poverty trap

the comfortably off sneered

those who knew understood found it hard

realizing their situation severe

as the support now rapidly disappeared

and meltdown for them all neared!

A society where the dived was beyond help!

Locked Within!

Locked within his own mind he just laid

after the heart attack

that came suddenly  without warning

in a comatose condition

to those around him motionless in bed

nothing direct could be said!

Had always hoped to retain his dignity

not gazed upon with pity

only lingering on for his families sake

after the years of hard work

certainly not his choice to visibly decay

laying there on display!

Not for him to be unable to communicate

prolonging their deep grief

this loving father wanted peaceful release

remembered as an active man

if only he could smile and talk as they sat

instead of being helpless and flat!

He waited for his merciful release!

As He Spoke!

Pulling her hand sharply away as he spoke

realising it wasn’t a joke.

Not the words that she wanted to hear

his love faded it was clear.

What really hurt he’d fallen for her friend

on whom thought could depend!

It should have been a night to celebrate

turned into a night of hate!

Without any idea of this cruel deceit

just wanted to get out that seat.

They had even got engaged a month ago

why she wanted to know.

Disgusted realised there was little point

they were no longer joint.

Cheated upon by those she trusted most

the bond now burnt toast!

Got up and walked away hiding that pain

had her dignity to maintain!

Determined to move on into a new life!

The Attractive Blond

The attractive blond sat talking

laughter drew my attention.

Not wanting her to notice my stare

as I sat with my coffee.

No disrespect she was attractive

it is best to mention.

I maybe getting old but ordinary

females I do like to see.

Honestly nothing wrong with me

well I don’t think so.

She was just sitting very close by

no I was not trying to spy!

After awhile we looked at each other

as she chatted to a friend.

They got up moving to another table

decided to stay seated.

Asked a staff member if I was her dad

odd I am not that bad.

Well I shall try not embarrass myself again

my dignity I would like to maintain.
