Streaks!

Streaks of white across the cloudless skyline

indicating a plane had crossed

visual signs of airliners zigzagging above

as the air traffic ever expands

risk of accidents and mishaps increases

night and day never ceases!

 

Dangers are low its said compared to roads

but planes are becoming bigger

far more passengers and freight carried

no money made on the ground

we take little notice of the man-made bird

until a tragedy has occurred!

 

In that intense eagerness for constant travel

and the need to boost revenue

raising the hazards to a more dangerous level

where lives seem dispensable

crammed in a flying tube problems unforeseen

reliant on crew and machine!

 

Each and every day we gamble with our lives

in our homes moving around

no guarantee of safety can ever be assured

but an expectancy of long life

dreaming of flying away to exotic destinations

with those tingling expectations!

 

Aboard jets that leave streaks across the skies!

Flight!

From small operations flying has become huge

an ever-increasing market millions want to fly

escape to destinations around this small earth

planes forever clog our crowded polluted skies

a once empty void is now getting very crowded

as countless planes land and take off in convoy

fields disappear for more and longer runways

covered in concrete beneath the early haze!

 

Flights carrying hundreds more eager travellers

long and short-haul souring at varying levels

airports take up land for car parks spreading out

not contented with our crowded roads anymore

cheaper and easier to fly than go by road or rail

whatever mode of transport prices are too high

only the rich eventually able to enjoy any travel

our society’s structure could to easily unravel!

 

But it is written flying could be much different

secret craft have been developed for flight

no need for flammable aviation fuel to ignite

but use a free constant safe energy supply

taking off vertically no need for the runways

unanswered question this surely must raise!
