Unmarked!

Nobody would know what the truck carried

upon the national highways

an unmarked semi blending in with the others

the cab with darkened glass

few would notice it had been armour-plated

in an isolated compound waited!

There from a large warehouse men loaded

in hooded protective overalls

radio-active containers into the interior

lead-lined and air tight

guards and cameras watched every move

the commander had to approve!

Fully loaded with an illegal cargo departed

alone to join the highway

like a chameleon blended into the traffic

nobody suspected its load

through the dense traffic moving at speed

to its destination did proceed!

Not the first trip but one of many undertaken

by a fleet of large specialist rigs

with deadly loads taking the risk of detection

and of the hazards of a crash

but approved by an unregistered department

that had given consent!

Never without a covert military escort following

undetectable like the semi trucks

were designed to blend in with any background

they continue the deadly tasks

under the blinkered eyes of unsuspecting public

that had become very slick!

Upon the highways they carry their lethal loads

through major and minor roads

from one secret destination to the next roam

only the few need know

beware of all the unmarked semi trucks behind

or ahead and within confined!

He Waited!

A nagging voice kept speaking inside his head

making him shudder and dread lights out.

In eight hours he knew he could well be dead

hoping his appeal would have some clout.

Laying down upon a sweat soaked single bed

absorbing the sounds of the prison cell.

What a fool he thought for being easily led

wanting the chance for the truth to tell.

Over and over a melodic tune kept playing

within his thoughts no way was he a killer.

For so long he had been hoping and praying

feeling the fear gripping tightly the bed pillar.

The lawyer said this was his last gasp appeal

why had his good life now turned so sour.

Panic again made him get down and kneel

as time had moved forward by another hour.

Yes like so many he had been guided to god

for the strength to face his impending end.

Totally trapped he was inside a man-made pod

he touched a letter his children had penned.

Writing they missed their mum but loved him

crying alone unable to be with his children now.

The darkness was oppressive in a situation so grim

why had he shouted at his wife calling her a cow.

Never before had they argued in their married life

but the money pressure was getting them uptight.

He stormed out for a break never touching the knife

going for a walk returning regretting the fight

Realising the children were upstairs hopefully asleep

entering the house with remorse a  such a mess.

Stunned saw his wife on the floor a knife buried deep

running to see the children now feeling the stress.

They were fine awake sensing something was wrong

as he sat trying to comprehend what he had seen.

Sirens could be heard outside he now had to be strong

remembering the shouting in that terrible scene.

Becoming a big blur being arrested the kids taken away

everything pointed to him the future looked bleak.

The authorities  and media said he would have to pay

from a loving family execution the law would seek.

So in a short time the sentence could be carried out

a plea of  innocence was a familiar begging cry.

For the prosecution he was guilty they had no doubt

everything he had said had to be  one big lie

he may have loved them all but he had killed her

the true facts of the case may never be known

What happened on that fateful night what did occur

was life that cruel was his fate really sewn?

Nobody else as yet had been apprehended for the crime

commuted to life was doing his time!

His faith the only comfort he waited to be proved innocent!
