College!

The teenager was excited that Monday

heading to her choice of university

tears kisses and hugs from parents

she was of a nerd disposition

thrilled with a thirst for knowledge

history of the occult at college!

Her one desire being a parapsychologist

always had an interest in ghosts

ever since she saw a girl in her bedroom

told mum she said it was a dream

definitely knew it was real being awake

could still feel the headache!

Saw it many times after all over the house

always made her head throb

yet never felt threatened just very sad

was about twelve at the time

from then on heard voices in her mind

the future had been defined!

Kept all this from the family and friends

none of them could understand

glad at last to get away from that house

now nineteen had to find direction

compelled to this historic seat of learning

entering her stomach was churning!

Could not admit she had psychic abilities

early afternoon seemed quiet

surely should be busy on registration day

there was a buzz with crowds

voices bombarded her brain hard to breath

it kept repeating Macbeth!

Reeling then heard movement behind her

a young woman in long robe

silently came over with a chilling smile

hi Sara my names Beth

you have been eagerly expected here

everything will be made clear!

By eye contact she was guided into a room

without hesitation followed

as though it was natural to walk behind

this creepy young stranger

two huge doors seemed to open unaided

with singing was serenaded!

Candles lit the way the atmosphere heavy

hooded figures could be seen

that awareness flooded her profound mind

knew she was out of her depth

as the black-robed figures now surrounded

her petite body terror unbounded!

Now hands were pushing her towards what

soon became clear was an altar

the female slowly with precision turned

you have been chosen to join

our ancient secret coven by careful selection

here under our protection!

As she stood she was stripped and re-dressed

into a dark long red robe

on the altar lay what looked like a teenager

draped in a white gown

found herself standing with a knife in hand

none of this she planned!

Could not stop as the compulsion to kill surged

the knife above raised high

had no control as it plunged she screamed

all went dark then awoke

was now alone outside of this gothic facade

her thoughts no longer strayed!

Her destiny had been foretold this had to be faced

fearful for the ordeal braced!

Eyes watched as she really entered unable to escape!

Purring!

The cat’s purring seemed to get louder

for the first time an irritation

how quiet it had been until that moment

staring through the open window

across open fields and a dirty grey sky

his life slowly ticking by!

Almost in a dream like state became aware

of the patterns in the clouds

that drew his complete attention got up

found himself outside eyes fixed

as a large hole appeared in the formation

that lacked rational explanation!

The centre opened spiraling downwards

from within came a large craft

that hovered while the sky then cleared

just appearing before his eyes

he surveyed no noise could be heard

nothing else nearby stirred!

Cautiously walking down his long garden

it slowly moved upwards

as several small objects seemed to eject

flying in all direction so fast

ascending the clouds opened once more

this time of a wider bore!

Rising into heaven or another dimension

the alien object did transcend

that chilling sensation immersed his being

in his mind biblical passions

of death damnation fire and brimstone

at that moment fearful alone!

Retreating back inside his safe haven

upward once more glanced

there was nothing more to be seen

the familiar purring of his cat

brought sanity to a tortured perception

was there a sinister deception?

From that day his whole attitude to life changed!

Wind!

A wind came unusual in this sheltered hamlet

yet blew in with a vengeance

from where this chilling wind had descended

a mystery know where to hide

it seemed to get within them as if it was living

the effect so unforgiving!

Never warm the air now thick still engulfing

every living creature and plant

withering as each one stood helplessly by

beyond comprehension it ruled

were slaves totally helpless in its action

no way to make our extraction!

Like a plague changing from lush green

grass with fertile soil and crops

to a dried shrivelled and barren land

and death was soon to follow

from the valley to the distant hilltop

life came to a complete stop!

Those who survived numbered but a few

never gave up hope the wind

and pestilence would one day be smitten

for them the day never came

for centuries it spread devastating earth

before mankind’s rebirth!

Then from the sky of constant darkness

it began to slowly clear

and the long forgotten sun shone through

and the decimated wilderness

no more bombarded by this pervasive

wind life sucking and erosive!

As it came it went and life began anew!

The Lodger!

The single young woman found it was hard

even though working

to pay the bills and the large mortgage to

she needed a lodger

providing extra income so she could cope

this really was the hope!

The lodger arrived late on an winter evening

there on the front porch

an old suitcase clasped in bony hand

speaking in a quiet voice

harsh whisper in a monotonous drone

yet had a chilling tone!

Said she had read about the room to rent

yet not contacted by phone

the owner reluctant to let her come inside

struggled paying the bills

regrettably no other enquiries  received

she could only proceed.

From the first meeting doubt was embedded

within her inner fears

already the warmth of her home had waned

showed her the room

gave her approval she would take it uttered

in agreement muttered!

Moved in that night with no other luggage

went in the room in silence

the door shut yet the owner full of dread

what had she let in her house

sat in the lounge listening to the television

already regretting her decision!

Decided to sleep down  in the lounge that night

later thought it was silly

to allow her imagination to spook her thoughts

the lodger would be fine

three days passed before eventually emerging

trouble began surging!

Unable to comprehend what she was doing

no food had been taken in

could not recall if the toilet had been used

not feeling well stayed inside

never been sick as this trying to think back

or so much energy lack!

The lodger crept about now mainly in the dark

the place would not heat

it was constantly cold and so many flies buzzed

always a dank mouldy smell

filled the air never had this before she came

nothing could she blame!

In the end decided had to make conversation

depression was overwhelming

even hard to climb the stairs breath short

soon outside the room stood

before she could knock the door it opened

into emptiness did descend!

Compelled to enter there saw the gaunt figure

empty eyes and  almost skeletal

went to speak but there was a piercing scream

followed by a blinding light

she woke with a shudder and fell off her bed

thinking she must be dead!

Finding her heart was racing knew she was not

sat shaken on the thick  rug

cold no more really went to the lodgers door

finding it was slightly open

summed up the courage to go right inside

had to face not hide!

But it was empty the lodger seemed to have left

the tension and fear had lifted

the odours and flies were not about any more

though she had not existed

strange had it been an awful nightmare she had

certainly never had one that bad!

Came home from work around seven that evening

got herself something to eat

then there was a faint tap upon the front door

wondering who it could be

nobody usually called at this time without a call

went to answer it down the hall!

Devastated to see a thin pale girl holding a suitcase

within  her bony hand!

The Foureyed Poet.

Nothing So Chilling!

Only walking down an ordinary town centre

never had this experience before!

Maybe heard a tap as she sat alone at home

nothing so chilling just talking.

Chatting with friends then felt a rough tug

losing balance was it a thug?

Just stopping herself falling to a hard floor

each mate looked surprised!

A voice whispered in her ear ‘You Bitch’

turning nobody was that near.

Ignoring the words she simply walked on

then heard a favourite song!

Forgetting that moment being out fun shopping

sitting in a coffee shop.

To enjoy a chat and before starting to buy

as the drink she bought fell.

Spilling the liquid and smashing the cup

now knowing something’s up!

A grip on the shoulder like a strong hand

sends a tingle down the spine.

A deep laugh that nobody else can hear

makes her heart start race.

Jumping up but afraid to look behind

as the girls try to be kind.

Running to the toilets her neck feeling sore

she can just see deep scratches.

An image in the mirror just a quick glimpse

what’s happening who was there?

Hypersensitive to movements and sound

no alcohol had she downed!

Back at the table a fresh drink had been bought

sensing an entity close by.

Now more relaxed starting to have a laugh

the rest of the day went well.

Those strange events beginning to forget

an evening of fun was set.

Home the next morning around about six

yesterday events a memory.

Yet began to remember what had happened

with a hangover head spinning.

Dreading the thoughts was she seeing the dead

laying there alone in her bed.

For weeks after the fear could it happen again

never certain had it been real?

In her room stood in front of a long mirror

image of a man so clear!

A hand came out grabbing her throat

chance of an escape remote.

She was reported missing but never found

her parents didn’t see her leave!

The room was left untouched and closed

as the girl had carefully left it.

Nobody noticed the mirror had no reflection

surely this was poor detection!

None of us know what is close at hand!

Found Freedom!

The couple had settled in England

and worked very hard.

Now on holiday in a familiar place

with their two daughters.

His mother also came for the break

somebody their lives would take!

But the husband had made enemies

in dealings in his past.

As they relaxed in an idyllic setting

oblivious of the danger!

Hoping their past had been played

it had only been delayed!

Not originally from the British isles

they’d found freedom there.

From the troubles in the middle east

but it had not been forgotten.

Festering memories would terminate

when assassins sealed their fate!

One early morning a cyclist found them dead

shot twice in the head!

Three bodies in the car engine still running

another also lay nearby!

A child badly wounded and bleeding found

nobody else was around!

Another mystery was born that early morn

carnage nobody could understand!

Eight hours later a small child was discovered

hiding under mothers body!

As the news spread of this callous action

it brought a chilling reaction!

Bringing home the frailty of human life

and the dangers that await.

Who maybe watching or wish you harm

where mercy has faded.

And violence and revenge is the intention

instead of peaceful intervention!

Let us hope sanity for most will prevail!
