The Cave!

Though claustrophobic agreed to enter the cave

his girlfriend keen to go on the tour

she did not know his phobia he tried to act brave

assured himself it would be fine

but at the sight of the dark damp sloping interior

sensed his increasing hysteria!

 

There was eight in the group waiting for clothing

helmets and a bright headlight

rumbling sounds and faint tremors under foot

made him want to turn and run

but everybody else were becoming so excited

his partner was really delighted!

 

To soon the guide gathered them inside the cave

giving compulsory talk on risks

and to stay close keeping to the designated route

as there were falling rocks

as he listened he thought he heard an odd sound

not happy being underground!

 

He followed trying to look interested for his girl

realising how deep it was getting

the wooden fencing and walkways were rickety

every word echoed around

those vast chambers it was a different world

without warning a rock was hurled!

 

The group stopped people screamed as it hit

on the path just up ahead

sounding like thunder as the guide shouted

for everybody not to panic

though did sustain a facial cut a piece of rock

was an unexpected shock!

 

From then on their situation became terminal

from all sides hideous beasts

crawled down the steep sharp rocks converging

they all turned running back

one a man crashed through the railings and fell

down into depths of hell!

 

Grabbing his girlfriend headed in the dim lighting

as he thoughts was the way

back to the surface screaming for him slowdown

but so paranoid did not listen

until he felt a violent jolt that made come to a halt

the reason for this sought!

 

In disbelief was holding on to her severed arm

the rest of her was gone

before he could take another step was facing

something he had never seen

a humanoid creature with huge blank eyes

it lunged nobody heard his cries!

 

Razor sharp teeth then ripped out his throat

as he was quickly overwhelmed

the corpses were taken back to their nest

upon the surface concern

that all communication had been terminated

no problems had been indicated!

 

The company had just bought this franchise

not being told of its bad history

so were oblivious to the carnage in the cave

as a rescue team prepared to enter

without the knowledge of what awaited below

into the entrance they did go!

Mountain!

The group of friends decided to explore

the mountain near where they lived

shear sides at its base a barren expanse

a narrow trail extended half way up

that terminated at holes in the rock face

intrigued had to search this place!

 

Ignoring all the warnings of the elders

who kept away from this rock

knew it was haunted by ancient beings

watched the group slowly ascend

fearlessly focused on their exploration

to seek an unknown abomination!

 

Half a day later arrived at the mountain

large boulders and bones lay strewn

at its base not a sight they wanted to see

a flowing river halted their progress

until a rotting tree trunk came into view

already tiring their impatience grew!

 

Together dragged the tree to make a bridge

thankfully it reached over the small gap

tiring decided to camp there for the night

though had little sleep sounds close by

kept them awake fearing it was a wild beast

upon their flesh wanting to feast!

 

As dawn broke set off up the twisty path

that crumbled at each slow step

anxiety began to emerge as the entrance

became within a few yards ahead

then their leader was able to peer inside

entering with a very cautious stride!

 

Switched on the torch upon his forehead

venturing into the black interior

taking his first look at the forbidden cave

the rest followed like lost sheep

they switched on their piercing headlights

making them feel like neophytes!

 

Where few dared to venture in centuries

here gathered a defying band

curiosity and adventure overriding fear

more bones scattered about

moving further in every sound amplified

thinking their presence justified!

 

A joint decision was made to go in deeper

the entrance was out of sight

ahead looked ominous but they went on

in single file as the passageways

became claustrophobic as they narrowed

their progress rapidly slowed!

 

Occasional scratching made them jumpy

but it began to increase

ten minutes later they came to a chamber

there the remains of bodies

were strewn and the smell of decay strong

was this a nest they walked in on?

 

Their lights picked out shapes which moved

quickly clinging to the walls

and above a sticky goo dropped on them

turning to exit their path blocked

by a large thin white creature with no eyes

with intent on them to brutalize!

 

Their screams were absorbed by the  rock

the elders stood knowing they were dead!

Released!

From the bomb crater the beast was released

the massive explosion scattered

shrapnel and debris outwards at high velocity

and downward deep in the ground

penetrating a long hidden uncharted cave

a hole exposed by the shock wave!

 

With the evacuation and devastation it came

nobody knew of the presence

from below the alien creature had emerged

from long confinement

awoken after thousand of centuries trapped

to the atmosphere hard to adapt!

 

Unlike all the earthbound humanoid species

this being was not carbon based

nor in a solid form looking like a dark mist

blending in with the surroundings

because of our gravity needed a host to survive

buried deep only reason alive!

 

It searched for a victim to enter and control

but the battle raged on

the explosion that had set an evil alien free

sensed few living about

desperate saw a soldier in ruins cowering

soon his mind devouring!

 

From a hunched weary man now stood tall

his eyes lit brightly

a predator filled with the long pent-up anger

could start his quest

walking along abruptly the body just dropped

a bullet in the back stopped!

 

There was nobody to transfer into felt the pain

and the end of life

back in its innate shape hovered over the scene

blending in with smoke

rising from the fires that littered far below

decided it was the moment to go!

 

Into the vacuum of space where it could survive

to wander in search

of another world that itself could easily destroy

settling on passing asteroid

leaving earth to be eradicated by its own hand

as ill winds the fires fanned!

 

With a last thought could do no more damage

than the brutality of the human rage!
