Text Message!

A text message was sent to his cell phone

warning him to go to an address

who had sent it nobody knew the number

this was for special business

as an undercover detective had to be wary

this assignment it was scary!

Taking precautions headed to the location

even though it could be a trap

had an informant who had not contacted

for a few months it was his style

the block of flats on a rough estate loomed

amongst shabby houses was marooned!

Parked amongst vandalised cars and trash

smelt that stench of cultivated weed

as he headed for the entrance to slum block

knew it was a gang base by the tags

another message made him miss a beat

started to sweat feeling the heat!

It read third floor num thirteen take stairs

security door was not locked

certain nobody was following sprinted

up those four flights of stairs

entered the small lobby spotting a man

this was where the nightmare began!

Saw the flash of a gun firing at his head

ducked it missed by a hairs width

charged head butting the thug his fist

completing his incapacitation

inside the flat other voices could be heard

the action soon became blurred!

Instinct took over as it seemed like an army

rushed out had to use his training

and wits to overcome overwhelming odds

glad he had his trusty police baton

it did the damage until he could grab a gun

entering hoped the fighting was done!

Saw it was his criminal informant sitting

bruised and battered in the kitchen

still with a cell phone clasped in his hand

before he could utter a word

they were heading for the ground floor

as more burst through a glass door!

Quickly reversed their exit to the balcony

found themselves looking down

four floors also s  burnt out van well placed

no time to think both jumped

to a hail of automatic fire as they collided

on metal somehow were safely guided!

Managed to get in his car his companion hit

just getting away but soon pursued

speeding through unfamiliar back streets

eventually able to contact back up

the assailants were beginning to draw near

down a familiar road was able to steer!

For the moment they had shaken pursuers

and drove onto headquarters

on his radio heard there was a gun battle

glad they had got clear of trouble

inside was able to know what had gone on

it was a sting that had gone wrong!

The informant had bypassed him this time

nearly paying with both their lives

but through the carnage a big drug haul

confiscated and gang caught

the adrenaline rush had still not subsided

but it had been an adventure decided!

Traffic Lights!

Traffic was flowing along the dual carriageway

as the driver approached the junction

lights turned to red so had to brake and stop

annoying to halt at this point

agitation rapidly grew they did not change

fifteen minutes passed very strange!

From every direction cars converged at speed

must be a computer malfunction

was the thoughts of those in the car queue

now unable to move anywhere

anger and tension mounted as car horns blared

for this situation nobody prepared!

Gradually they got out of their vehicles frustrated

with no explanation forthcoming

that first vibration made them almost lose balance

followed by the rumble of death

grew loud in their ears as earth and sky blended

the wrath of nature descended!

Or this was the expectation as the blackness grew

panic spread amongst the people

tremors made everything shake roads disintegrated

in this part of the world not expected

fields and sky seemed to blend was it world’s end

a site hard to comprehend!

Eventually their plight would be in perspective

nothing was recognisable

landmarks had disappeared fires were ignited

from far away explosions

people stumbled about not knowing what to do

and the atmosphere was rue!

Everything around him was now a raging blaze

a loud continuous noise

rapidly made him jump back into normality

the familiar nagging voice

ringing so loudly in his ears was the beloved wife

knew there was no real strife!

Sweating profusely found himself at the lights

it must have been a daydream

during a micro sleep they had turned green

motorists behind annoyed

the carnage seemed real still fresh in his mind

all bad thoughts realigned!

Started laughing happy all was chaotically well

his happy demeanor would not last

as all that befell the people in those dark images

back at that specific junction

each sequence of cataclysmic events had begun

that no man could outrun!
