Late!

She was lost in a strange town late at night

feeling the worst from the booze

had been separated from her best friend

found herself in a street of terraced

houses many boarded up and vandalised

her situation had not analysed!

Sweating had to vomit it projected outward

into the pitch black of an alley way

almost falling but a graffiti covered wall

kept her on unstable aching legs

her eyes watery began to feel unprotected

alone afraid and dejected!

Noises around her footsteps a bottle smashed

a rasping growl from her right

there was something close by in the alleyway

certain it was coming towards her

started to walk then tried to run but tumbled

onto broken glass crumpled!

Sharp pain was added to all her other misery

tried to crawl leaving a blood trail

there was nobody about she was isolated

could move no more exhausted

again heard a guttural growl then by her side

a dog stood had nowhere to hide!

It was huge snarling fangs exposed dripping

saliva all over her broken body

the eyes black that overwhelmed her soul

the stench of its breath nauseous

screamed frenziedly certain this the end

with no energy her being to defend!

Soon lost consciousness through exhaustion

and oozing from the glass wounds

suddenly found herself being rudely shaken

then a voice she thought was an angel

at first was distant yet a growing awareness

a determination to survive did caress!

Blurred vision cleared and there was her friend

paramedics were in attendance

she now laid upon a cot within the ambulance

as a chill made her shudder

but just before they parted she saw once more

the dog watching as they shut the door!

Realised this terror had not been a hallucination!

Grandma’s House!

She had no knowledge at all of her grandma’s life

in fact she had never met her

so surprised to find she had inherited the house

mum hated the old witch

never visited always referred to her in this way

and never went there to stay!

Unsure why she had been given this old house

felt compelled to visit

a part of her life that was a complete blank

down to the west country

headed alone on the train anxiety was growing

to a part of her that was unknowing!

Took a taxi from the station at first an adventure

a child like excitement

but as she got out and the car quickly left her

alone staring at the dwelling

bleak uncared for yet felt the need to go within

searching for answers could begin!

Unkempt garden bunch of rusting keys gripped

in her tiny soft hand

stood before the door found the key entered

dusty but surprisingly tidy

sensed a presence was it imagination or real

what secrets did it conceal?

Missed her mum who had died some years ago

told she had died of an aneurism

pulmonary could recall wished she was here

remembering she hated grandma

never gave a direct reply when asked why

too late now gave a big a sigh!

Wanted to leave maybe the timing was wrong

the door would not open

a sound made her turn grandma sat in a chair

seemed real how could this be

spoke in a soft tone even said she was dead

that filled the girl with dread!

You are home my child the coven’s chosen one

before anything more said

the image faded from view but others had come

a group of young women

surrounded the room each were dressed plain

in black from talking did refrain!

On a large central table an ancient thick text-book

bearing her name Abigail

felt compelled to pick it up instantly like a surge

of electricity exploded

around her petite immature body and mind

from then on she was defined!

No longer a child a beautiful woman now emerged

with dark penetrating eyes

embracing who she really was a powerful witch

instantly had absorbed

the knowledge of her birthright overpowering

the future before her towering!

Realising that her mum’s untimely end designed

as it blocked her destiny

becoming clear she had resisted the natural order

for so long filled with dismay

though with this new purpose inside a darkness

grew this began to caress!

The coven was complete she had fulfilled her destiny!

The Pool!

The privilege of being in charge at the pool

you could swim any time

when nobody else would ever interrupt you

this freedom Tania enjoyed

sometimes a boyfriend joined her in the pool

not by any official rule!

Their passion started rising in the warm water

love-making really good

but she was also wary of the many shadows

when the lights turned low

thinking it could only be in  her imagination

something of a self creation!

This was extra special just the two in the pool

the water taking their weight

first made sure the changing rooms were empty

then locked the outer doors

ignoring the  sounds and shadowy movement

they were far too content!

Neither noticed the dark mass enter the pool

closing in on their pleasure

until she had a sensation of  touching her leg

then the wrench he was gone

a terrified plea and now alone in the darkness

freezing without her man to caress’!

Afraid to move cautiously got out of the pool

unsure of what she could do

each step an effort in her traumatized control

got to the lighting switch

flicking down every one it became bright as day

becoming faint began to sway!

Made it to her office crumpling in her leather chair

still naked put on a spare coat

noises she had discounted so long were amplified

picking up her telephone dialled

as the operator picked up the womans distress call

from the ceiling a mass did fall!

Her last sight as it engulfed her and she was no more

just a discarded coat remained

police were sent urgently when no reply was given

breaking in nothing out of place

they carried out a thorough search of the premises

no discovery was made of the nemeses!

In the large swimming pool the two bodies were found

for the experts the mystery did confound!
