Proud!

She stood sixteen hands proud and strong

grey with black mane

a young horse just arrived from England

fresh and innocent

from the safety of home to the battle front

taken by the army

to carry the Captain upon her sturdy back

heading the attack!

Far from her master who she knew from birth

the open fields to roam

into the bloodbath of war of mud and death

a multitude of animals

keeping the war machine in constant motion

dying with the soldiers

interacting in human conflicts had no choice

no rights or voice!

This was a time of man and animals integrating

shown much kindness

even more brutality in of war of young lives lost

horses worked mercilessly

until they fell with the soldiers the proud mare

was tough and stubborn

wanting to be home from those she was taken

for so many were forsaken!

After this barbaric war had finally come to an end

there were eight million

horses mules and donkeys killed in their service

to assist perpetual greed

many were sold for meat but thankfully thousands

came back to blighty

the proud mare whose name was Belle was saved

her bravery praised!

Bruised and scared she came returned to the farm

she loved and knew

to open spaces free from noise and destruction

shells and shrapnel

the army officer to came home and kept in touch

both never to forget

those times of depravity and this futile carnage

of mans endless rage!

Belle lived happily until she succumbed to age!

The Cruise!

The middle-aged couple looked over the ocean

on the deck of the cruise liner

enjoying the warm beautiful Caribbean sunset

sipping a fruity red wine

unaware of the creature crawling up the side

for them nowhere to hide!

Leaving a slime trail it slithered over the rail

down onto the empty deck

silently approaching the contented couple

opening its jaws wide

now exposing large angled razor-sharp teeth

death came from beneath!

There was no time to give any warning cry

the man savaged and swallowed

the woman violently knocked overboard

unable to make a sound

falling to more sea monsters basking below

her blood no longer did flow!

Unaware of the nearing danger passengers

slept or partied as normal

the captain still on duty pacing the bridge

viewing the radar at the blips

wondering what was causing this oddity

then not knowing their ferocity!

Rare thinking a schooling of fish were passing

not for long as reports came in

of monstrous creatures swarming the ship

attacking everybody on all levels

immediately sending out an urgent Mayday call

before their end did befall!

But for a twist of fate the message was delayed

was it the position on the sea

or an electrical storm that distorted the signal

by the time any rescue arrived

no life remained upon this passenger vessel

a mystery searchers had to wrestle!

Now classed a crime scene the ship was towed

from its very remote last position

but underneath the hull these creatures gripped

with powerful suckers undetected

into the main sea port ready to unleash their terror

that would become a shocking error!

The nightmare had just begun!

The Schooner!

The tall masted schooner looked magnificent

moored on the dockside

ready to set sail on the afternoon high tide

a family owned trading ship

travelling across the busy Atlantic passage

facing natures mighty rage!

Carrying a variety of cargo down in its holds

the schooner was ready

besides the crew the captains family went to

together on a calm sea

excitement grew a rare chance all together

starting on their endeavour.

At first there were no incidents the sea calm

half way encountered a mist

worried could not avoid it were engulfed

after several hours emerged

nothing happened though the mood changed

conversing with crew strained!

The schooners progress hampered no wind

as it slowed then stopped

anger grew amongst the now agitated crew

mother and two children

had to stay in their cabin the captain feared

sensing a horror neared!

The crew turned on themselves with venom

like each were possessed.

yelling as if being chased jumping overboard

now only the four remained!

consternation consumed each single second

what would be the end?

That last morning they gathered for breakfast

little was said at the table

father had become extremely agitated now

but maintained a calmness

the decision to abandon the ship was made

saw the crews bodies displayed!

Loud bangs many voices and running  feet

hounded them venturing out

nothing there then a sound of an explosion

terror drove them to the lifeboat

expecting their vessel to quickly go down

thinking they would soon drown!

The children crying and their mother as well

their father the captain

started to prepare the small boat for lowering

then the weird mist returned

after it slowly passed  they had all disappeared

not a soul there when cleared!

Suddenly the sails filled a strong wind began to blow

the schooner started to move

crew less it began to drift onward across the sea

and many months before found

by one of the search teams tasked seek and locate

and find the schooner fate!

Hailing receiving no reply boarded to investigate

were dismayed to find it empty

everything in place and as if  it had been abandoned

food on the table just left

charts indicating no wind and some kind of danger

none had seen anything stranger!

The schooner did get to its destination being towed

it became known as the ghost ship

anybody who went on board did not stay long

never sailing again it was sealed

remaining in an undisclosed location to this day

weird noises still heard they say!

The Captain his family and crew were never discovered!
