Maybe!

Maybe it was just chance or a well-played plan

but like a fairy tale the woman

became acquainted with the much older man

making him spill his coffee

with that virtuous flicker of long eyelashes

that upon his jacket splashes!

A slight blush as it was he who apologised

their eyes met and he was smitten

caught was it chemistry or a hidden agenda

to him it was magical luck

had recently got divorced that still really hurt

how good it felt to once again flirt!

Blinded by a beautiful woman chatted happily

both becoming touchy feely

drunk more than he usually did that evening

had verbal diarrhea was happy

remembered walking out with this female

from there it was a memory fail!

With a jolt awoke in a bed with white sheets

alone his clothes strewn around

a trail of water droplets led to the bathroom

with a throbbing headache

his desperation to vomit and pee was intense

as none of this did make any sense!

Staggering through the open door at the sink

the trail ended on the steamy mirror

a word Sucker written saw his own pasty face

then a dark figure from behind

hit him over the head again lost consciousness

last thought his future ominous!

Aroused with a slap and loud shouting in his ear

handcuffed to a bare dirty table

two men sat staring from across the small room

demanding to know where she was

where had he hidden the body of their comrade

confused at the question so afraid!

His thoughts scrambled by drugs drink and brutality

engulfed in a bizarre situation

here with no answers help or any means of escape

vague flashes of a bar and a girl

as the pain in his head began to get more intense

nothing to him made any sense!

After endless questions the interrogation stopped

dragged and thrown into a cell

he had been a banker who had let his guard down

and given them pass codes

while he had been detained had ransacked his flat

of no more use he was hit with a bat!

A week later his remains were pulled out of the river

back in the same up market bar

a young woman approached the middle-aged man

he was an executive of a large firm

how his ego was raised as she smiled and spoke

then gently his hand she did stroke!

Risk Of War!

They had been warned there was a risk of war
yet nobody believed it
each wrapped up in their own daily lives
engaged in the bickering
that desperate need to make more cash
not worried of radioactive ash!

Even though around them the signs clear
at the news shed false tears!

An imaginary tale that could not happen
material gain was their aim
use resources they did not want to see
damage to other living species
as unrest continued to grow were blinded
unaware and closed minded!

A false sense nothing was wrong in society
yet there was that building anxiety!

Everything viewed upon the large screens
it seemed a distant problem
but fake news now blending into a reality
people believed what they were told
those who were once financially sound
were now in their debt drowned!

Dark clouds were forming above their heads
as they slept in their beds!

Oblivious often to reality accepted the premise
a material existence with credit cards
live for today pay for the goods at a later date
as the society gradually crumbled
they were sure everything was turning out well
as more countries and cultures fell!

Holidays were just memories and fading photos
they still wore their once new clothes!

Contamination increased the coral reef destroyed
air pollution nobody could avoid
besides the continuous wars natures wrath grew
one government was in control
those aspirations of the many eventually lost
as the robots took over workers tossed!

Nice homes and flash cars rusted and decayed
humanities finality no longer delayed!

Even those who thought wealth would keep them safe
found with resource exhausted
a battered planet unable to sustain life anymore
their stored resources gone
those long term plans and god like superiority
also became part of the majority!

Is this just the ramblings of an elderly pessimist
who has become a disillusioned optimist?

Or a possibility of what maybe?

Street light!

The street light flickered above her head

just thought it faulty

walked on down the well-lit pavement

then at the fifth post

went out with a bang followed by the rest

a tightness in her chest!

The crowds surrounding her became silent

from a loud happy crowd

a forced silence and uncertainty spread

what sounded like gunfire

created a panic as screams filled the air

of the growing danger all aware!

Glass windows shattered amongst city lights

mayhem ensued nobody knew

darkness filled the pedestrian walkways

as injured lay sprawled

masked angry figures moved quickly around

crouched low to the ground!

Impossible to tell if they were of human origin

in the beginning just a few

but the number rapidly grew firing weapons

that did not look familiar

those who tried to escape were hit by a beam

fell without even a scream!

From the sky lights blinded yet deathly quiet

many were herded together

the woman was forced to stand she knew

this was no alien invasion

she had never before seen a real android

that of human emotions were void!

But it had been reported many had escaped

from a military facility

now able to think being far more intelligent

the public were told

they had been captured the danger contained

order had been maintained!

A craft landed and people were forced onboard

loud explosions started

the army and police arrived causing more panic

helicopters now hovered

in a flash the androids ship was hit and exploded

hope of rescue eroded!

Taking just a few hostages they fled the carnage

followed by the troops

many bodies lay around yet none of the robots

littered the bloody scene

made by man as an indestructible military force

news said from an unknown source!

The woman walked back fires now lit her way

guided by uniformed officers

distant explosions filled the smoke polluted air

sirens whaled incessantly

paramedics attended the wounded and dead

she dreaded the future ahead!

Robot wars no longer science fiction but reality!
