Billionaire!

In the king size leather chair at the top of the tower

the billionaire surveyed the city below

now he was the ruler of his kingdom and people

who believed his every word

within his mind and being certain them understood

his intentions its said were good!

Though from unbelievable wealth totally certain

could achieve his full schedule

protecting his subjects from any ruthless enemies

never himself struggling to survive

nor ever evicted from the place he called home

the streets in all weathers to roam!

Accumulating huge debts that you could not repay

or standing in a food bank queue

paying your taxes all of your life but still in debt

not entitled to benefits to ease hardship

sleeping in those wet streets chilling your bones

nobody sympathetic to your groans!

Where even a small coffee is too expensive to buy

walking the only mode to get about

that constant fear of violence or hopelessness near

no warm abode or a safe dry bed

the divide so immense how could he comprehend

to his tower most would not ascend!

Comfortable in his leather chair promised he did care

but his vast fortune would never share!

Circling!

Taken by surprise at the screeching seagull

swooping down trying to snatch

the sandwiches she had made hours before

circling above so menacingly

running along that path in such a blind panic

petrified mental state manic!

In front a lone person was blocking her path

dread becoming overwhelming

as she neared they did not move aside at all

it had meant to be a break

from the stresses of an abusive relationship

in reality losing her grip!

The uneven clifftop path made her stumble

as the paranoia took over

the gulls relentless onslaught continued on

the shape ever closer

fatigue making every muscle painful to use

lungs gasping in self-abuse!

Unable to stray being a steep bank one side

the other a sheer drop to incoming tide!

Approaching the spot where the person stood

realised nobody was there

shaken it once more attacked balance lost

the sky now in her vision

over the edge with an increasing free fall

just like a child’s rag doll!

Something watched as her vision and life faded!

Expression!

There was no expression on his unshaven face

no hint of what he would do

in the queue of a small busy provincial bank

to any trained observer

he was a suspicious character up to no good

rigid like a piece of wood!

It was if he was waiting for a particular moment

those by him started retreating

as if an instinct was warning them of a danger

from beneath his raincoat

menacingly brought out a twelve bore shot-gun

hitting a man trying to run!

Pushing customers aside who had not moved

pointed the weapon at the cashier

there were no security glass she faced a gun

aimed directly at her head

somehow keeping calm as he told her to fill

money sacks close to her till!

Grabbed the bags then fled towards the exit

a female accomplice remained

creating a diversion as security went to fire

racing through the sliding door

just as the alarm was raised by the shaken staff

safe let out a  triumphant laugh.

Briskly walking to a selected skip opening lid

took out a large hold all

from it removed a jacket put the money in

within seconds proceeded

with a changed image headed to the station

but still had trepidation.

Not wanting to be overconfident it went well

no sign of being followed

meeting his partner in crime and lovely wife

at a prearranged rendezvous

relaxing on the train hoping she was all right

their re-union always a delight.

On arrival at the seaside hotel it was too quiet

she had been compromised

keeping from view saw her waiting  nervously

a dark car outside watching

expecting this could happen he called a cab

with the intent his lady to nab!

knowing what to do came slowly out and walked

close to the hotel wall

saw the taxi arrive as she passed the door opened

a hand clutched her arm

and was now with her husband and drove away

to commit a crime another day!

His expression now showed plenty of emotion!

Old Canal Bank!

They thought it was just a large cat on the grass

by the old canal bank

drawing near the object dived into the water

large ripples spread outwards

yet silence remained creating an atmosphere

that deep-seated fear!

All seemed so natural the same familiar scene

over the surprise walked on

continuing chatting along the narrow tow path

reaching their favourite seat

facing the murky water the object was again sat

thinking maybe a big rat!

How they tried to ignore this persistent entity

there ominously not moving

to their dismay it was soon joined by another

that slid onto the bank

this was definitely bigger it began to slither

as their nerve began to wither!

Realising there was danger they began to run

knowing the short cut out

back onto the bustling rush hour town centre

with unprecedented speed

the now visible snake-like creature  attacked

the momentum they lacked!

The last to go was caught and swallowed whole

witnessing this appalling event

three friends stumbled away in complete terror

as the smaller beast lunged

tearing at a young girls foot she screamed pain

breaking free before it bit again!

Reaching what they hoped was a safe location

stood on the bridge looking down

upon the now tranquil canal below their feet

with no signs or undulations

what were they why had it killed their mate

for him help was too late!

Now in and on the canal bank nothing stirred!
