Quiet Day!

To him a quiet day had thought

leaving his regular place of work

no warning in cross fire caught

strangers in shadows did lurk

so happy as he walked that way

bang pain on the ground he lay!

Nothing could ever be done again

a gun culture taken another soul

an increasing number now slain

society with a souring death toll

crime does rule our way of living

beings merciless never forgiving!

Here so many futures taken away

afraid to speak safety in doubt

emotions kept behind sad eyes

families in danger if found out

a vicious circle to be dwelling in

the barrier of protection is thin!

Without his dignity there he did lay!

Unseen!

Is there a malicious unseen agenda

that does not want unity

where humanity would join as one

instead of our destruction

intent on fanning the flames of hate

when people want to debate!

Dividing the masses for the privileged

creating fear and mistrust

taking us away from a righteous path

into the depraved depths

when we know not what is happening

a scenario for many baffling!

Death and chaos is a daily occurrence

the threat of total anarchy

your neighbours and friends the foe

everybody filled with mistrust

as understanding slips into that abyss

hope evermore we shall miss!

Or is the turmoil part of an ongoing plan?

Neighbour!

How quiet without his neighbour anymore

though they had been ill

it was not a shocked when she passed away

strange noises again he heard

to him unsettling because nobody was there

not that he was aware!

Relations came to clear out all her belongings

yet something still remained

nearly a year before the house had been sold

a couple bought the place

glad for the company but certainly not to go in

sensed bad things about to begin!

Always weary of the seemingly nice old lady

neighbours for many years

yet never went into her house too afraid

often could see a man lurking

yet she had never been married that he knew

had left a nefarious residue!

Even the thought of noises he had listened to

made his chest feel very tight

never found out the cause of the loud chants

or emanating screams of terror

called the police who just ignored his concern

made his stomach churn!

After several calls did come to speak with her

but did not go inside

from then on it got worse heard a man’s voice

as if knowing he complained

many nights lay listening in fear of his sanity

and the blasphemous profanity!

His conscience would no longer let him rest

must tell them of the neighbour

knocked on the door wondering what to say

at first there was no reply

then the door opened the old lady stared back

he collapsed with a heart attack!

Only a short time later the couple returned home

aghast to find him deceased

with no idea of dead eyes watching them both

later they entered their house

the door still locked to them all was tranquil

until a presence they could feel!

That night the screams and awful noises began!

Large Black Eyes!

Stories have been told for many decades

that have increased in intensity

creating terror for those it has touched

instilling a dread none will forget

one incident happened on a Halloween

the fear could not be foreseen!

Around ten in the evening the dog barked

running about in a crazy manner

she was otherwise alone on this night

heard a faint tap on the front door

feeling uncertain walked down the hall

heard a child’s faint voice call!

There were no children living in the house

just herself with the agitated dog

her husband had left to work a night shift

through the frosted glass

two small silhouettes were visible there

of her own anxiety was aware!

The voice called again please may we come in

she thought it late for children

to be on their own replied what do you want

her hand shook opening the door

looked down saw two poorly dressed children

one about twelve the other under ten!

The barking continued as an unpleasant odour

made her feel suddenly nauseous

the older child stepped forward into clear view

illuminated by the hall light

making her move back strangely was afraid

their presence a threat conveyed!

Holding the door tightly so neither could enter

then they lifted their heads together

holding back a scream shocked at what she saw

their eyes were large and black

two pale skinned faces that seemed stretched

on them something inhuman etched!

Slammed the door and put on the safety change

added go away you cannot come in

what seemed like hours they stood on the porch

but eventually walked away

went to the bay window with its clear street view

they were nowhere insight terror grew!

Sat freezing on the carpet for the remaining night

a frightened pet huddled close and tight!

Ebbing Away!

In his sixties looked around at the people

talking and chatting together

yet sat on his own as if he was not seen

in the eighties he remembered

laying in a hospital bed life ebbing away

was it his moment that day?

After an operation was left bleeding inside

but for an observant doctor

would not be sitting feeling life had halted

nothing had worked out since

certain within himself he was not depressed

filled with self-pity or stressed!

Nothing had worked out thought he was nice

never fell out with others

had one job most of his reasonably long life

two ex-wives that was bad

nobody else had connected with him since

himself tried to convince!

As far as memory would stretch he was sure

tried to move forward

yet always it was blocked each time failed

the sensation of going around

in the same circle unable to break free

never to this day the escapee!

Trapped in a miniature transparent dome

watching time pass by

unable to communicate in a state of stasis

was this just imagination

or a reality that he was doomed to repeat

until there was no heartbeat!

The Foureyed Poet.

Room!

As the business woman approached her room

tired after a long day

from within she could hear voices and music

playing loudly surprised

checked her key card to confirm the number

so needing her slumber!

Intrigued but unsure cautiously entered inside

slowly pushing the door

stepping within it all became absolutely silent

yet every light was on

as she stood to survey the room a blurry figure

walked out going through her!

Taking her breath away freezing and exhausted

shocked to see the mess

clothes and furniture scattered as if ransacked

turned running out screaming

the scene captured on camera and video tape

clearly visible the shape!

Security were quickly outside calming the female

they too taken aback by the mess

when excitement had subsided reviewed footage

what seemed a transparent

woman in a long dress walked out and down the hall

then disappeared through a wall!

Followed by the woman screaming in a state of panic

on searching records they found

somebody had died under suspicious circumstances

but it was thought a suicide

it was an unsolved enigma as nothing else found

destined to become profound!

No records showed it had ever been reported before

by patrons or hotel staff

so it remains part of an incident with proof it occurred

an atmosphere resides

now guests are eager to stay hoping for an appearance

of the ghost certainly a chance!

Aware!

An odd sensation was all she was aware

a pain and the darkness

awoke suddenly alone in her apartment

as if from a deep sleep

everything seemed exactly as before

yet different was so sure!

On the large settee she found herself laid

adjusting her blurred vision

her pet dog came to lick the hanging hand

but never felt the sensation

concerned sat up it was then she realised

life had been deprived!

Her body was on the settee white and still

yet she seemed so real

the dog slowly backed away as if in fear

her husband came in

from a night shift and to her side ran

a tired shattered man!

She had loved him now could not touch

only watch as he tried

to revive the woman he had just wed

phoning for an ambulance

in shock laid beside her loudly praying

their pet with a ball playing!

Paramedics came very quickly with aid

watching expecting the light

her husband holding their fluffy pet dog

hearing every word they said

both tried everything to start the heart

not wanting her forever to part!

Surely it was too late life had now passed

but a weird sensation

more pain a deep breath and a gentle kiss

a warm hand gentle breath

knowing she was back alive and not alone

really hearing his soft tone!

Upon a stretcher drips in arms on oxygen

heading to the medical centre

heard a voice an image of her dead father

faintly saying not your time

my precious child but I am always near

later was certain she did hear!

Eighteen months seemed to have flown by

their dreams had come true

back in hospital for birth of their child

the problems now melted away

happily over time her strength grew

incredibly life had begun anew!

Dialling Telephone!

It was a nice apartment she kept telling herself

though had to admit it was cheap

certainly needed decorating that was certain

at last she had plenty of room

not having to share with her younger sister

definitely did not miss her.

But on the kitchen wall was a dialling telephone

thought this odd must be old

after a while began to like its shape and colour

noticing it was not connected

as she planned the redecoration of her new home

in her thoughts continued to roam.

Happy in her own world deciding on wallpaper

was distracted by a ringing

not being use to this sound ignored it carried on

but then heard it once more

following the ring ended up where she begun

it stopped not feeling the fun!

Again looked at the dialling phone surely not

no connection checked once more

as she went to leave it rang loudly she froze

stopped how could it ring

wanting to get away yet was being drawn

unconsciously now feeling forlorn!

A knock at the door made her become alert

to a more rational mood

relieved ran pleased somebody had called

where her best friend stood

that welcome smile helped the event fade

their affection both displayed.

An instant decision to have a shopping spree

putting them in a great mood

as it was Saturday went on to a night club

arriving home late and drunk

soon had fallen into a deep unsettled sleep

both on the lounge floor in a heap.

At three ten a persistent loud ring roused them

making their headaches worse

staggering into the kitchen it was the telephone

her friend lifted the receiver

together listened and could hear faint breathing

this made them feel like heaving!

A rasping voice then welcomed them into his home

dropping the receiver ran out

unable to sleep sat on the floor huddled together

nothing else happened that night

but curiosity overtook their fear they had to see

each wanting a cup of coffee.

Everything was normal in here the phone dangling

so continued to make breakfast

putting the receiver back tried chatting but weary

of what had recently transpired

glancing at the cut line wondering how it had rung

a glass fell into the sink with a clang!

Distracting them then it happened again jumping up

both ran yelling into corridor

with the telephone ringing and echoing endlessly

at that moment the neighbour

in the apartment opposite sheepishly came into view

telling them what she knew!

Of the elderly man who lived there for so many years

and found bludgeoned to death

hardly ever came to speak his only link the telephone

was found by it in the kitchen

when she found the door open worried went within

finding the body with pale bloody skin!

The son was eventually charged and later executed

left unoccupied for ten years

surprised that anybody had taken the apartment

they could still hear it ringing

could not go back in thought this was her new pad

scared had to walk away this was sad.

As they left the neighbour quickly closed her door

the telephone was still ringing!
