Edge of Chaos!

Life seemed to be on the edge of chaos

misery was spreading

with the upsurge in gutter poverty

and that haunting stare

wherever you walked beggars pleading

their will to live receding!

Arriving home one evening there sitting

on my porch step a man

this was my first impression nearing

its shape changed before me

coming to a halt uncertain what to expect

hostility began to detect!

For what seemed minutes it did not move

then crawled out of view

cautiously approached there was a stain

green and foul-smelling

avoiding the substance yet very aware

that it was right there!

Instinct made me turn feeling a presence

the mass was at my back

just managed to escape its fateful grasp

crashing to the flower bed

running from my own house petrified

for me nowhere to hide!

From their desperation they were created

an abominable creation of beast

were mutated by the pollution and poverty

until that moment had never seen

just an urban legend until we collided

my emotions deeply divided!

Illusions gone discovering it was real not fiction

these predators humans mutated

the population grew it became an affliction

as poverty divided rich from poor

once like me a human living with family ties

with all the hidden deceits and lies!

Life was chaos nights became a fight for our survival!

Trance!

Sat before me as if in a trance those eyes

so black deeply sunk

every movement just glared with intent

as if possessed by something

that disturbing realisation it could exist

with us all did coexist!

That helplessness you could do nothing

filled your being with trepidation

he did not seem aware of my presence

backed away in anticipation

more was forthcoming his face distorted

his body now contorted!

Yelling obscenities launched himself off a chair

attacking a man eating close by

bouncing on the cafe floor hitting out fiercely

several men tried to pull him off

but could not hold or wrench this man away

his victims complexion turned grey!

Eventually restrained when the police arrived

as cutlery began to fly through the air

customers around were shaken at his actions

began to think some kind of possession

the premises destroyed and windows shattered

those present bruised and battered!

Had to be carried by at least six to a waiting van

as it came the evil energy left

those within from then on were totally fearful

for this was an enigma

none had experienced before in their lifetime

within the air was a mutant enzyme!

That would soon cause the destruction of man

as it was absorbed into the population

nobody was immune from its horrific effects

so much speculation of its origin

it was said an act of god for our immorality

disdain for life brutality and criminology!

There was a deep seated dread this was wrong

had to be a far more sinister origin

the facts concealed in videos films and song

most seem blase to the truth within!

Many predictions of doom how would this plot end?

Bite!

The pain lasted a split second like a sting

true there were flying insects

as she walked by the fast flowing river

the irritation that followed

soon began to swell on her upper arm

it started to cause alarm!

Determined to finish her relaxing stroll

though that hope was fading

had to rest luckily a large tree was close

drowsiness overcame her

was soon in a deep and unnatural sleep

into a dark place her mind did leap!

Leaning helplessly back against the bark

became aware of creatures

of unknown origin approaching casually

could not move or scream

being dragged nearer the rivers fast flow

terror building to a crescendo!

Into the swirling waters her body did go

grasped by claws pulling her

down into a murky subterranean realm

dark damp a smell of decay

watching these freakish beings with care

trying hard not to stare!

Tried to keep still and shallowly breath

several gazed her way

eyes sunk that started to glow advanced

saw the teeth felt the bite

as severe pain surged through her torso

the transformation slow!

Last recollection was screaming for mercy

so cold could see and feel

surely it must have been an awful dream

until she was now basking

not of human anatomy on the riverbank

an alien beast into the water sank!

No dream but an unbelievable reality!

Grey Stallion!

It came to an abrupt halt a few feet ahead

snarling in a rage

sweat pouring from its dark grey skin

where had the creature come

eye to eye we firmly stood our ground

the presence did astound!

The emotion of fear was overwhelming

tendons and sinews taunt

my way upon the pathway was blocked

daring me to make a move

as though a burning hate at my presence

with this had to show reverence!

Man against this mighty formidable beast

as it rose on hind legs

towering over me in an aggressive manner

a humbling moment

stumbling back in worry of my existence

from me no chance of resistance!

Suddenly as it had begun the confrontation

subsided and became placid

the mighty grey stallion calmly backed away

bowing its head as is with respect

in an instance gone from my suspicious stare

of my vulnerability was aware!

An encounter that would linger within me forever!

Aware!

An odd sensation was all she was aware

a pain and the darkness

awoke suddenly alone in her apartment

as if from a deep sleep

everything seemed exactly as before

yet different was so sure!

On the large settee she found herself laid

adjusting her blurred vision

her pet dog came to lick the hanging hand

but never felt the sensation

concerned sat up it was then she realised

life had been deprived!

Her body was on the settee white and still

yet she seemed so real

the dog slowly backed away as if in fear

her husband came in

from a night shift and to her side ran

a tired shattered man!

She had loved him now could not touch

only watch as he tried

to revive the woman he had just wed

phoning for an ambulance

in shock laid beside her loudly praying

their pet with a ball playing!

Paramedics came very quickly with aid

watching expecting the light

her husband holding their fluffy pet dog

hearing every word they said

both tried everything to start the heart

not wanting her forever to part!

Surely it was too late life had now passed

but a weird sensation

more pain a deep breath and a gentle kiss

a warm hand gentle breath

knowing she was back alive and not alone

really hearing his soft tone!

Upon a stretcher drips in arms on oxygen

heading to the medical centre

heard a voice an image of her dead father

faintly saying not your time

my precious child but I am always near

later was certain she did hear!

Eighteen months seemed to have flown by

their dreams had come true

back in hospital for birth of their child

the problems now melted away

happily over time her strength grew

incredibly life had begun anew!
