Nobody!

Nobody can know what you are thinking inside

or how your self-respect is shattered

it is a personal hell you all face just to function

your existence seem totally battered

none of your relationships ever seem to last

but you’re determined to face the past!

Hard as it maybe for us to create a new dream

in the end only we can truly decide

if we can be charming get out with the team

to not be depressed so regain our pride

believe we are as good as anybody around you

through experience know this is true!

Once your confidence has been slowly drained

feeling so much weight on your head

wanting to scream being wound up and tense

thinking the only way out is death

but to remember your children need you there

their love is true for dad really care!

Easy for self-pity to drag you down in a divorce

doctors just offering you pills to take

adults fighting with animosity feelings sour

communications with each other gone

yet your children who are caught in the middle

do not understand the divorce riddle!

For me my sanity was saved by young minds

who wanted their parents to care

to love and not argue or be unhappy together

just share their lives even if apart

so hard for every one but kept in close touch

now all grown up love them so much!

Far Below!

Like ants scurrying life went on far below

while several miles in the sky

an airline pilot knew there was a problem

the passengers were aware

after the shudder and bangs occurred

the assurances all were absurd!

Fear was etched on the air stewards faces

as the plane rapidly lost elevation

both the pilots struggling to regain control

passengers to filled with dread

oxygen masks came rapidly into their view

another bang as left engine blew!

Alarms sounded it was heading for the ground

no panic yet an expectation

nor screams or crying but a disturbing calm

each felt this their final destination

emergency crews ready at the nearby airport

impacting runway that was too short!

Crashing onto the tarmac at too high a speed

metal grating as plane ripped apart

fuel igniting spilling out of ruptured tanks

fire truck ready with foam spray

those inside waited for broken plane to stop

heading for a sheer drop!

With inches to spare the plane came to rest

now a raging fire people still alive

rescuers there to save to help survivors

fearing the worst they strived

to quell the savage flames and get them out

had anybody lived there was doubt!

For some astounding reason all were spared

now and forever a bond they shared!

The cause of the near disaster yet to be determined!

Cliff Edge!

How could they end up on the cliff edge

she though it just another row

both moving apart surely a bad patch

until she mentioned her affair

only briefly while he worked abroad

her phone calls had ignored!

Met while young neither yet matured

but there was a special love

realising it may not save the marriage

could not change her actions

never expected to be up here pleading

as the marriage was receding!

Anguish had overtaken his whole being

drawing closer to oblivion

the cliff crumbling from beneath them

tried to hold him grip was lost

fell back onto the grass he disappeared

for a second the turmoil cleared!

Then reality hit her like a thunder bolt

the strain upon her a jolt

guilt tore her sanity completely apart

jumped with a broken heart!

The Pledge!

The pledge that was made to this young man

filled him with a passion

thinking he would be fighting for his beliefs

against the true enemy

this was how it was sold to this genuine being

but from himself was fleeing!

Like so many had been drawn to follow religion

but as too often is the case

words twisted and created making it like a calling

brought together as a family

the promise of a better way of life in unity

in one large community!

Once drawn in realized life meant much more

it was a hollow dream

finding compassion and love was not the aim

unable to escape the horrors

death came far to soon the allusion shattered

his body torn and battered!

The relatives shocked with no remains to mourn

their faith apart torn!

Vapour!

It had been a very dry long hot summer

everybody was glad it was cooler

the end of August rapidly approached

and the new school term neared

there was only one main road in and out

of the town suffering a drought!

Tempers were fraying as water dried up

then the earth tremor struck

shaking every property in the township

windows and crockery shattered

on the main road a wide crack appeared

in Jenson panic reared!

In fact the residents were now trapped

it ran the whole length

of main street and seemed to be deep

rising from its depths

a pungent vapour rose out copiously

with a deadly potency!

At the rear on one side a fast flowing river

on the opposite side a high cliff

wedging the town in a gap like a Sandwich

a few miles down the road

stood the aging nuclear research facility

with them a mutual animosity!

Towns folk began to become ill collapsing

and mutating zombie like beasts

but not everyone seemed to be affected

and a small group had to hide

as the a babbling growing group searched

as on a roof survivors perched!

None of the few knew why at this moment

they had not been effected

by the rising the poisonous spreading gas

below in the street butchery

their once friends ripped each other apart

from here must quickly part!

Luck or providence this side an easier option

though the river was fast

wild as it smashed violently onto jagged rocks

at least it was low down

not a sheer cliff face to climb hundreds of feet

no way would they admit defeat!

Trying not to make any sound entered a shop

through a skylight window

dropping into the sports department of a store

gathering what they needed

making a quick exit as the mutants entered

as these thing got more demented!

The vapour was quickly replacing the clean air

tying scarves around their mouth’s

with ropes and life jackets headed for the water

time a luxury not granted

the girls were braver entering the cold water

now or never could not falter!

As they were swept along glancing back observed

the mutants on the river bank

as the vapour had now obliterated Jenson town

but their bodies were pounded

onward down to the quieter slow running part

four from the water did depart!

One was lost swept away unable to stay afloat

yet though the surroundings

were clear the winds direction could change

there may well be an epidemic

of unimaginable magnitude they had to warn

before mankind it did spawn!

But now the wind had deviated towards the city!

That Smile

That smile will be with me forever

on the day it all went wrong

the two of us trying to be clever

our journey was too long

deciding to take a different trail

thus  must recount the tale!

That smile will be with me forever!

Desperate to try and save our marriage

after both drifting apart

had we passed that irreversible stage

our love was there a start

yet the tension high I drove far to fast

and our destinations cast!

That smile will be with me forever

Into a tree we rammed I was powerless

to avoid the collision

the anger had created this foolishness

shaping the final decision

my side was undamaged just shaken

realising I was mistaken!

That smile will be with me forever

Why had I been such a stubborn man

had shock awoken me

you the only one in my earthly plan

at first what I did not see

there hurt with that angelic smile

how bad I was in denial!

That smile will be with me forever

Somehow got a signal to call assistance

talking more than before

why now could we seem to be consistent

doing my best to reassure

that any problems we would transform

our love overcame any storm!

That smile will be with me forever

As the rescue team arrived we tenderly kissed

such a magical moment

how such tenderness for so long I had missed

she had been to me sent

that smile I shall never forget or guilt fade

too late true feelings displayed!

She died from her injuries soon after!

That smile will remain with me forever!

Together

They had been together for sixty years

never knowing anybody else.

In love and never apart only in the war

happy contented and loyal.

Having their families always close by

the unity nobody could deny.

From their first meeting they both knew

destiny was being together.

Love blossomed and were soon married

but Charlie joined the army.

And Annie worked in the local factory to

while the first-born was due.

Never wealthy life was hard yet were happy

five children brought up well.

Enjoying their grandchildren into old age

sadly Charlie became ill.

Passing leaving Annie his life to celebrate

a wonderful life long mate.

The family knew mum could never be sad

as their love bridged death!

Understanding his physical body had gone

yet their spirits intertwined.

Less than a year later Annie quietly died

now Annie was by Charlie’s side!

Nobody mourned as mum and dad were with them!

Months Apart!

It had been very lonely those months apart

that empty space in his heart.

Their relationship and passion on hold

as bad news began to unfold

An uprising in their country had occurred

for day’s there was no word!

Desperately worried to know if she was well

away on business for a short spell.

Only two hours from where they were based

what a nightmare he now faced.

Finding his composure was hard to retain

had to get home on the train.

Soldiers everywhere dangerous being there

not alone the trauma to share.

Every one pushing to board the few coaches

as gun fire rapidly approaches.

Panic setting in terror as the crowds surged

children crying could be heard!

His journey was fraught and his manner tense

the military barrage immense!

Never had he seen so many crushed together

nearing the end of his tether.

The slow-moving train shook with each bang

had his phone just rang?

This trip took forever the hours nearly ten

he’d find his wife but when?

Eventually it stopped he struggled to get out

positive without doubt.

On the platform soldiers herded the crowd

trying hard not to curse aloud.

Through familiar neighbourhoods made his way

to a spot if lost would stay.

Their one secret rendezvous only they knew

his anxiety now grew.

Approaching he was relieved to see her there

such emotions they did share!

Embracing passionately despite the violence

love to them conquered all!
