Break!

He took a break from his long trip at a rest stop

had left early from his home

an insurance salesman had arranged a meeting

confident the day would be profitable

headed for the coffee shop needed the caffeine

but the day would not turn out routine!

 

Even as he sat sipping his latte was certain he saw

a strangely dressed female staring at him

then it was gone tried thinking just tiredness

yet after that his skin began to itch

sure wherever he turned the entity was observing

which became very unnerving!

 

Beginning to have a panic attack decided to leave

glad to be outside the anxiety eased

on the way to his car she was there once more

there was no escape what was happening

walked into an advertising sign thoughts distracted

tense all his muscles contracted!

 

Reality was slipping away the scene became distorted

anybody coming near he lashed out

the world he knew came and went in bright flashes

the woman became more disfigured

each sighting ever closer why was she haunting him

everything was becoming grim!

 

Stumbling managed to reach where the car was parked

but even that had become a blur

all balance absent fell against the car to stay upright

now the deformed woman was by his side

reality deserted him emptiness filled a confused mind

the reaper his existence reassigned!
