Perfect!

Such a nice neat white-painted house

it drew my attention

had to stop and admire so perfect

yet was it just a facade

a child’s swing moved on its own

by who was unknown!

Toys on the verandah indicated children

yet there was no sound

it appeared as if nobody lived here now

but shadows could be seen

outside the double garage stood a car

waiting to be driven bizarre!

The path through a white gate spotted

with dark brown stains

no other indication it was a crime scene

of horrendous brutality

here I would have been happy to reside

its secret no more could it hide!

The last family no longer within did live

the step son the only survivor

of five who lived and enjoyed this home

now in police custody

it was reported by a local news station

they needed more information!

Morbid curiosity had brought me here

even from the pavement

terror made my skin prickle with fear

as if from beyond the grave

sadness made me want to cry in sorrow

for them no tomorrow!

Backing away from there wanted to leave

as a child waved at me

so clearly from an upper window petrified

left the perfect house

never to return yet the images remained

what I saw unexplained!

The trial of the only survivor and accused

went on for several months

his defence trying to get an insanity plea

as he kept saying a voice

told him to kill his family but was rejected

guilty of murder the judge directed!

His sentence was to die by lethal injection

no date had been set

the news by this time had other stories

for a while it went quiet

until he was found lifeless in his prison cell

the cause nobody could tell!

Shortly after this he was seen by witnesses

within the garden and house

roaming about as if he was still searching

a blank expression on his face

even though he had been recently cremated

this mystery is still debated!

Few were keen to enter inside the perfect house!

  1. Seems like he met his fate. Troubling that he is still wondering around!
