There was that distinct smell of flesh decay
as the senior detective entered
the large and disused shipping warehouse
a small digger was excavating
a large deep hole in a nearby corner laid
three bodies were displayed!
When he started it was pick axes and shovels
the rookies did the digging
still it was progress no backache or blisters
the team had already arrived
he watched as another corpse was placed
noticing there was no face!
It seems as well none had any hands or feet
the odd aspect of the case
they had the killer to them had confessed
paid to dispose of evidence
his task to leave no means of recognition
or he would be in their position!
But he had come to them highly stressed
petrified and eager to talk
what he told them next sounded insane
blurting out they were here
those he murdered he could see each one
his life he knew was done!
He had heard many confessions and stories
could distinguish the crazies
but this guy was plain scared out of his mind
said they were surrounding him
had to get them to be buried on holy ground
nobody else heard any sound!
Shaking and sweating gave them thirty names
it did get cold as we talk
put it down to my over worked imagination
but he was a spooky guy
the longer being with him I felt the presence
my misgivings rose to intense!
Suddenly it became silent he took a breath
his eyes bulged he turned blue
it was though something was strangling him
yet nothing was there to do it
in the two way glass sure he saw a reflection
there was a psychic connection!
It took a five minutes to absorb the bizarre scene
that is how he ended in this dump
finding every noise made him flinch wondering
if there were ghosts watching
surely not but the families could now get closure
it was hard keeping his composure!
Maybe this ageing detective was not a sceptic after all
had to get away from the decay to make a call!
