Ale House!

Sure the reason the door was warped

had to be the aged wood

eighteen forties building material

altered from a corner shop

into another working man’s ale house

he lived here with his spouse.

The new landlord of this establishment

in urgent need of an upgrade

solidly built thought it had potential

constructed of stern stuff

on entering had an uneasy sensation

certain just imagination!

But when his  pet and guard dog faltered

at the entrance to a room

where the wooden frame was warped

sitting rigid and whimpering

it made him more aware of the ambience

then the problem not immense!

He often saw the dog sitting there alone

but one day his wife asked

to look inside the room needing storage

reluctantly opened the door

she was not bothered about going inside

to her no fear to hide!

True  was empty dusty with a damp odour

but ideal for the purpose

one day heard a noise the door half-open

was brave and glanced in

just as a glass vase flipped off a small chair

giving him a big  scare!

Like the dog kept his distance from the area

until he noticed after closing

preparing to take the dog for his nightly walk

he was nowhere to be found

until his wife frantically came to him worried

to that room both scurried!

Shaking said their dog was distressed inside

upon their arrival outside

sure enough heard the barking and howling

the door completely shut

no idea how this could become sealed tight

or the dog inside full of fright!

It should have made an almighty loud bang

but nothing was heard

and why would a scared animal venture in

not easy breaking solid wood

the dog ran passed never settling again

the couple could not remain!

Whatever it was concerned them no more!
