The Fun Fair!

The fun fair for generations had always existed

attracting countless visitors.

Boosting greatly the seaside towns popularity

throughout the whole year.

Like any public amenity had seen its mishaps

and the occasional collapse!

 

With a good safety proud only a few had died

nor many injured either.

But countless stories and rumours circulated

in particular the big wheel!

Where a specific and well documented sad case

brought a shadow to the place!

 

An investigation could not conclude an accident

many believed it murder!

This was not the first or last unexplained death

that was never solved!

Mechanical failures often used as the main cause

but no proof of the flaws!

 

Most believed it was haunted by those who died

and dark secrets were suppressed!

Even the owners and mature staff were secretive

and kept their mouths tightly shut.

This was also once the towns first cemetery site

adding to its woes and plight!

 

Were people exaggerating what they’d been seeing

with its history creating terror?

This added more excitement to the teenage group

who ventured onto the ride.

One story was of a woman falling from the top

of the wheel to the ground did drop!

 

Laughing and mocking about the tales of the park

until several saw a couple.

In one of the benched swinging gondolas in front

this made them subdued.

Approaching the ferrous wheel nothing was seen

what could it have been?

 

Reluctant to get on yet making this more of a thrill

foolishly sat in the very carr!

They were certain two people had been sitting

at first everything seemed well.

Then as the gondola reached the highest spot

started swinging a lot!

 

Violently shaking and tipping had to hold on tight

as the safety catch came loose!

Crying shouting for help lost in the atmosphere

just stopping crashing down.

The carnie brought it to safety so they could alight

they were certainly filled with fright.

 

He knew the secret that a girl had been thrown

by a fair worker years ago.

These teenager even now were keen to stay

hid until the park was shut.

The enthusiasm was short lived and evaporated

they were caught and berated.

 

Forcibly removed from  the park by night security

angry they couldn’t search more.

There were many dark sinister secrets to unfold

they were lucky to escape.

Anybody getting close to the truth disappeared

from within the park red eyes peered!
