He Said!

He said to his sister who found him dying

from a self-inflicted knife wound

how sorry that he was leaving this way

unable to face life any more

and try to contact from beyond the grave

but no reasons he gave!

Loving her brother thought they were close

never realised he was so sad

regret clouded life as  she waited patiently

to make contact as he said

facts began to emerge of his mounting debt

threats for payment not met!

They were twins and sensed he was unhappy

travelling from her home abroad

hoping she would find him safe and well

that her intuition must be wrong

yet as she approach his apartment entrance

the dread within was immense!

Six long months had passed and still there

just having to stay in his place

putting her life on indefinite hold waiting

for that sign because he said

then a tap on the door rushing to open it

feeling scared she had to admit!

Standing before her a pretty young woman

with a baby held in her arms

crying said she was the brothers girl friend

they’d argued and broke up

not realising at the time she was pregnant

but to come back was her intent!

He still didn’t know she so wanted to tell him

but had no contact from him

knowing his problems found it hard to come

now she knew the awful truth

in the apartment they sat and his baby son

there was a unity of one!

The radio came on with no help from them

a song played they recognised

his favourite and the room became cool

they smelt his after shave

and knew they were not on their own in here

her brother to them was near!

Though her brother had taken his own life

she felt close to his son

the girlfriend moved in it really felt right

and sister stayed knowing

that what he said had really come true

now the family was complete to!
