Hotel!

From the outside looking sparkling revitalised

hotel newly renovated after a fire.

Destroyed it inside empty for twenty-five years

home to drug users and vagrants!

A long history of violence dogged with grief

an enigma cursed was the belief!

Murders unexplained disappearances reported

stories that enthralled the public.

No doubt some magnified to increase interest

this changed as building work began!

Slowing down progress and pressing deadline

a falling wall broke a workers spine!

Human bones were found under the basement floor

and at the bottom of the lift shaft!

Some swore they were pushed down the stairs

yet nobody was ever seen there.

Work crews refused to enter making publicity bad

making the owners very mad!

Most of the incidents were never told to the public

until the grand opening day!

Locals knew of its jaded and frightening past

the media mixed in with guests.

Filling the large impressive restaurant and bar

the unseen would be the star!

As the opening was going well guests having fun

the mayor had re-opened the hotel.

First sign of trouble as balloons fell unprompted

from the ceiling it went dark.

Alarms sounded that indicating there was a fire

the situation seemed dire!

An evacuation plan was immediately put into action

removing the many gathered inside.

Furniture and crockery began to be flung all about

flames and smoke could be smelt!

Most got out before the fire doors slammed tight

the new owners a terminal plight!

This time it burnt to the ground and collapsed

no way to rise up again.

The site was levelled turned into a memorial

to those lost over the years.

Nothing would grow the birds would never sing

only misery did the building bring!

Even to this day if anybody went to near the plot

the evil can be sensed the ground still hot!

The Foureyed Poet.

  1. This poem seemed surreal, so much so that I put the lights on and checked my ceiling too 🙂
(Its quite late night here though I liked the way your poem simply flows, like a movie …. I read it again, with my fingers crossed !! )

Thanks for liking my work too.
    Best Regards
